  1. I have a similar setup. My speakers have no wall and the rear ports fire into the foyer and into the kitchen. I have the RF-83's and they do not have a lot of bass. I'm not sweating it cause my sub more than makes up for their lack of bottom end. I brought a QSC 265 watt/ch amp over one day and hooked them up to my CF-2's and the bottom end increased considerably. So what Mas is saying makes sense. You might want to suggest him adding a separate, more powerful amp to compensate for the difference.
  2. Yeah, the bug is a nasty critter. Hope you don't get it too. Check out this thread. Might be helpful to you. Be sure to read to the end. He enjoys the sound but initially did not have it setup properly. Some people are probably completely satisfied with the quintets. Others need more than what they can provide. It all depends on you. Will it be an upgrade from Sony....you betcha.
  3. Welcome to the forums! I could be wrong here but I personally wouldn't worry with 7.1 with the quintets. Most guys here have huge floorstanding speakers and are totally satisfied with a 5.1 setup. There isn't much media that has true 7.1 encoding. With the quintets being satellite speakers, I'm not sure your would benefit much from a 7.1 vs a 5.1 setup. If you still want 7.1, the best bet would be to have two more quintet speakers but they might be hard to find by themselves.
  4. I agree with Mani-aX but if possible, see if you can pick up the RC-52 center (even used) with the RF-52's and use your quintet's only for the rears.
  5. Put a piece of masking tape over it. [] That's ok. My daughter had her tiny boombox CD player going in the living room and my wife went in and turned the volume down on my receiver. She can't tell the difference in the sound of a $40 cd player and my RF-83's. Most women will never get it.
  6. Glad you are enjoying your new toys!
  7. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to compromise to keep the WAF. I would much rather sleep next to my wife than with my RF-83's [] so it's best to try and keep them happy. If you have a long enough sub cable, try moving the sub to the rear of the room to see how it sounds. Not sure placing it inside a wall/closet with the port facing into the room would sound right. Can you try it out without having to cut anything? Like a temporary setup to see how it sounds?
  8. That would be how I would do it.
  9. Here is a trick I heard about. Place your sub where your primary listening spot is. I'm not sure if you move the couch or chair and put the sub there on the floor or if you can just place the sub in your primary chair. My guess is place it on the floor. Then crawl around the room on the floor until you hear the best bass response. That is the place you want to place your sub to have the most bass at your primary listening position. I guess it is reverse acoustics.
  10. I am using a older Harman Kardon AVR55. The RF-83's are extremely efficient at 100db sensitivity. My plans are to eventually add an amp to the HK, then replace it with a Parasound Pre/Pro. With us wanting to build a house in May/June of this year, the Pre/Pro does not fall into the budget as of yet. [] It's good that I am very patient and it's even better that my wife was the one who suggested I add a theater room to the floorplan. With her suggestion, I was able to move from wanting to buy the RB-61's to the RF-83's. I love my wife! [] When you say "amp", are you referring to a receiver or adding an actual amp to your current Yamaha receiver? For $1200, you can get a great amp or receiver.
  11. Hey Mike. Welcome to the forums! First of all, what is your budget for a receiver? If you are looking at a buget receiver, I listed some here that you might be interested in. There is no magical receiver that will be "perfect" for the RF-35's or any other speaker setup. It all boils down to your needs (features), your budget, and even your preference. Most recommend Harman Kardon, Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Mirantz (not in any particular order) since they sound good with Klipsch speakers. Since the RF-35's have a high sensitivity rating (98db), you could power them with with a receiver that had as little as 50 watts/ch. I'm powering my RF-83's with a 55 watt/ch Harman Kardon receiver. Does it sound great? Absolutely. Would it sound even better with more clean power (like 200 w/ch) absolutely! How much do you listen to Music vs Home Theater? What features do you need the receiver to have (HDMI 1.3, Amp Pre-Outs, Multi-Source capabilities etc)? The more info you provide, the easier it will be for everyone to make suggestions for you to consider.
  12. Amy has taken lots of photos. You can check them out here. I cannot remember the thread but I did the math and figured up a Palladium 7.2 system would be around $40,000 (recalling from memory). Klipschcorner.com also has a number of photos of them. Nice but way out of my budget range.
  13. Flyboy...those are georgeous. No I'm not talking speakers here. [] You are a blessed man indeed. Love the viper. Enjoy your toys! They are nice. Sweet job cleaning up the garage too. Looks very sharp.
  14. Here is an RC-7 for $350. Great price. No affiliation.
  15. Those are new settings for me. I have an older HK AVR55 and I only have basic volume adjustment for each speaker, no crossover settings. From what you are showing, are how does the multiple crossover settings work? I understand what crossovers do and the basic understanding of what they do but I'm not sure I'm understanding how you can adjust gain on several crossover points at one time. Is the Audessy able to detect that the front speakers have multiple crossovers in them (highs, mids, lows).
  16. You think it sounds good on your Promedia, burn the files to a CD and test them out on your new system. Just pull the picture frames or china off the walls before you do it. [] Each sub will have different frequencies that they sound the loudest. My 15" sub probably gets louder at lower notes than a 10" sub would. I think you are on the right track with the 80Hz or 100Hz.
  17. What speakers do you have up front? Do you want them primarily for music, HT or both? What is your budget? Without knowing these things, we would only be guessing at trying to suggest speakers that would work with your system. Check out the Bookshelf and Surround speakers here.

  19. The show was really good. The bike was a sweet ride and the Klipsch logos were utilized throughout the bike. They even added 2 horns and a small woofer. Would have been nice if they could have incorporated a larger woofer than the 4" but it probably would have looked rediculous like this: It would have been sweet to see what kind of speakers Klipsch used in OCC's new building. They said they were going to deck it out with all Klipsch speakers.
  20. Anyone else watching the Orange County Choppers tonight? They are building a bike for Klipsch. They made me proud...they brought out a pair of RF-83's and cranked them in the shop to give them some Klipsch inspiration for the bike! Gotta get back to watching it.
  21. I'm not much of a motorcycle fan but I had my alarm set to remind me to watch it tonight. I'm proud...they brought in my RF-83's to show them how the bike should sound! Gotta get back to the show...
  22. Check out this thread. Nezff had a similar situation as you. He opted for the RF-82's with the RW-10d sub. (Edit...Sorry, he opted for the RF-62's). In his ears, he didn't hear that much difference other than a little more bass from the RF-82's.)
  23. Colter is correct. I think a lot depends on preference and even room acoustics might have something to do with it as well as the capability of your mains to handle lower frequencies as well. Otherwise, if 80Hz was ALWAYS the best setting, they would not give you options for crossover settings on both your receiver and on the back of your sub. Play with it...see what sounds best to you. I know that I do not like hearing mid-bass in my sub. I generally like it to only pick up the lower notes (80Hz or below). Just my preference.
  24. Yes, you are correct and yes, I believe 120Hz is too high for a sub crossover. Most suggest 80Hz is a good setting.
