  1. pick your drive from this page and download the software. This should work. I think its unlikely you have two bad drives http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?lang=en
  2. This is the first link that popped up. The issue is looking pretty common, but there is a work around out there http://community.wd.com/t5/Desktop-Mobile-Drives/Unable-to-format-amp-partition-new-bare-WG-2TB-Red-drives/td-p/560626 More http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/formating-issues-with-a-wd-2tb-drive-cant-format/17f887ee-7689-4dc3-9237-ee7f3af2dfbd
  3. I was thinking the same thing. Doesn't telefunken build tubes and other stuff?24 drivers per speaker. 4 rows of 6 http://m.ebay.com/itm/111283215741?cmd=VIDESC
  4. Windows 7? Type Fdisk in your search window and see if the puter is recognizing the disk Then try a right click on the drive out of my computer and format
  5. That looks very good Mike. Do you have a mid that takes over from 300hz and up or am I reading that wrong? Might as well show us the whole speaker now
  6. Cant go wrong with Mississippi Fred. True Delta Blues This one is re-mastered as many others of his are as well. Im sure you can get some rough streams to sample and see if its up to snuff for your detail needed. MF is one of my favs in case you didn't notice Oh, its Keith Richards fav too.
  7. Thanks Mike. Boy that is some good looking speaker cable they're offering at that site. I really want to try and keep a direct link from the woofer to the crossover, but there may not be a pretty way to do it without adding banana jacks and plugs. There are a lot of people and "garage engineers" here that are way smarter than I am, so I hope a few will chime in with a some pics.
  8. What I don't get is that many musicians...many famous musicians don't have high end equipment or seem to appreciate the accuracy of their work when recording, creating, mixing and then listening to the playback of their recordings. That's really strange to me. A lot of the sound and mixing studios, whether personal or commercial.....the same deal.
  9. I searched guys and girls, but I couldn't find anything showing the different approaches everyone has taken. Feel free to post links or pics if you have them. I am looking for different ideas to bypass the Bass Cap mess and get the signal to the network on the top side. I sort of did a temporary deal on mine by leaving the stock bass network intact and just removed one of the fuse holders and running a wire directly from the woofer through this hole and continuing it to the top side where the network is. My wire is braided and round and little smaller than the fuse hole. Im going to try a rubber grommet to help seal the slop that is there. I couldn't hear a difference in the bass having this slop there, but my OCD wont let me just leave it alone. I know I could cut a whole new wood doghouse cover and add banana couplers and then jumpers, but this would still not offer a direct wire from the woofer to the network. I will put some pics up later.
  10. My AL-3 Industrial LaScalas have them, but I can't remember if its has dual or a single fuse. Ill have to check. My AK-2 K-horns did have them, until you sent a box to my house
  11. Ahh hah... thank you TS. Have to say, I plugged the HDMI in and called it good. But Analog out..... I may have to give that a shot just to see if Im missing anything.
  12. Im assuming you're going to be using a TV as a monitor? I did the same thing you're talking about a few years ago. It was an old Tower I built in the 90's. It worked great, even with my "old" but expensive Analog Audio card. You're going to need a better than average sound card or something really good built in the motherboard. Most of them will have a toslink digital hook up, but the one I tried on an upscale Gigabit Mobo had a hiss at idle revealing a crappy noise floor or an issue somewhere. Anyway, my point is, the minimalist approach you are headed now may change once you get things rolling...or maybe not. Check out the Apple Mac mini. You can get a full 1T in storage and 3-4 USB's which are USB3 to plug in as many Ext drives you want. It also comes with 7.1 Audio, I believe and sounds very good for what it is. Its not super cheap, but once you get nickeled and dimed over your bare bones setup, you could just pick one of these up and have a full computer with all your music and no compromises. Oh, it also has HDMI and a digital toslink out for audio and/or video. The wireless Blutooth Keyboard and Mouse make it very handy for Surfing while you listen to your music. Just a thought My bad. No toslink, just HDMI
  13. Well that sure helps with the decision. Yea, I think I made a safe bet. High maintenance = plastic surgery gone bad. Yep. getting old is the pits, but it beats the alternative. Sometimes you should leave "well enough" alone. DOH! A disguised blessing maybe ? Oh boy, Im probably gonna get the strap for this one.
  14. Decisions, decisions. Fast forward
  15. Never heard anything from ATI, but they have had their hand in assembling as well as designing other "upper" companies amps as well. I have read some of the ATI higher wattage amps have a better noise floor than many other high dollar names that ended up not being compatible with the Heritage line. I have heard the McIntosh 275 in the past few years running K-horns and I have heard the McIntosh 5 channel MC7205 SS amp just a few weeks ago with K-horns. As much as I would like to have either, changing speakers is a bigger sound changer to my ears than comparing a primo tube or a 100lb SS amp setup to a 35lb AVR Receiver. 1-5 watts out of a "Good" Receiver still sounds pretty darn good to me and to be honest, I don't know if I could distinguish the three given constant levels and I bet some owners may not either once they sat down and actually tried.
  16. I noticed in two channel operation my Blu-ray audio sounded compressed as well. I'm guessing its down mixing that multichannel signal. I own one hybrid SACD disk, but I don't own a U-player to hear the SACD side yet. I don't know if I have listened to my DVDA in stereo yet. The wife commandeered my Blu-ray player for downstairs and I have yet to replace it or hear any multi channel audio in a few months. Now Im going to have to scape a little together and pick up an Oppo that can handle it all.
  17. That must be those new pants that come with grease on the inside to make it possible to slide them on being quite a few sizes small ? not that I am complaining Yeah. Maybe jumped off a building to fit in to them
  18. St. Martin. Yes this is real. St. John Sky. Maybe a little Milky way there
  19. Will your avatar be in a bikini ??? If so I cant wait. No disrespect , if that's someone close to you. HaHa! No relations, unfortunately. Let me take a look here....here you go One more before the cops show up
  20. That was a great combo! I saw Sabbath with an opening act of......wait for it......Night Ranger believe it or not ! It wasn't a bad show. I even scored a black pick from Tony that had his name on it.. I wish I knew where that was?? I probably traded contraband for it 30 years ago Too bad you're so far away Joe, would love to hear some past stories from Germany. Yeah, I did the Advent, Norman Laboratory, etc. speaker experimentation. It didn't take long to figure out what I was missing. Speaking of radio, I miss real radio. Not these continuous play sets that plague even the classic Rock stations.
  21. Ha! I was speaking for myself. I started early in music. I know I have CD's over 25 years old and used to have vinyl older than that. My first concert was the Styx Paradise Theater tour in '81 or '82 if that tells you anything. Back then all the bands hit Little Rock for some reason. I remember it very well, because my mom wouldn't let me go to the Van Halen Fair Warning tour in '81 and they were the top dog then. I saw Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest...all the usual suspects of those years before I was in the 10th grade, and they all came to Barton Coliseum in Little Rock. Come to think of it, I also missed out on a Kiss concert in '79 or '80 because I was too young. Get this though, Kiiss came to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. That may not mean anything to you, but the Arkies will get it.
