  1. Ahh, that faint orange glow and that familiar updraft of hot air rising on a hot August night....Well, believe it or not, I think that Mr. Carlton's link is your best bet, because the tube meme hasn't infected me yet (and probably not anytime soon). However, if you want to hear some really killer blackies-in-the-corners, I''ve got a pair of Jubilees running on Crown XTi SS whizbangs. (...bad Chris, bad Chris) You're welcome to come hear those... (...bad Chris, bad Chris). Chris P.S., You might be ruined for life... I'm actually bunking in at my BIL's place in Mansfield, just down 360. I would LOVE to come by and hear some Jubilees!! I work in Carrollton and probably drive by Mr. Carlton's place 10X a week, so it would be nice to meet him too. All my SET tube gear is back in Hilton Head with the family (and the Khorns, Cornwall II's, Belles, Heresies, Danley TOP, etc, but my wife isn't complaining) so it will be a few months before I can show up with some quality low power gear (no flames, please). Chris, just shoot me an email on the private messages. It should make its way to my Treo and leave a number. I'll give you a call. This weekend is pretty clear, then I'm heading to the West Coast M-F and back next weekend. Dang ... Jubilees [] PS: I have 2 pairs of KG4's and they sound great with tubes ... or even better, try a Sonic Impact for $30 ... They'll impress you.
  2. Thanks for the well-wishes! I hope you're doing well too. I've actually moved to Dallas and am working for a small, high voltage power supply company. Carrie and Jack are still in Hilton Head finishing up his school year and working on selling the house. Hopefully they'll be able to join me here in Dallas by late spring. We're fine otherwise. I sold the company in November and decided to go back to company life. It's nice being back Thanks for the Sonic Impact info ... Chris
  3. Interesting discussion ... I used the power supply provided as a costly option when ordering it (something like $20 or so). The amp was so cheap comparatively, it didn't hurt too bad. I know there was a lot of discussion a while back about the sonic merits of going off battery power. What that really noticeable, or was it just normal tweaking-induced forced improvement? Chris
  4. Where is Ed these days? I heard rumor on another thread that he had passed on .... God, I hope not ... Last I conversed with him, he was garnering immense satisfaction from his new bride and his retreat (ah hem ...). I know he's had cardiac struggles but he was one of the good guys. Chris
  5. Oh, that is just SICK .... [:^)] I can't imagine how wonderful they sound ... I think your wife will notice them however ... Reminds me when I brought home my first pair of Khorns and put them in the basement. I told my wife to go down and take a look .... She came back upstairs and said she couldn't find them, but asked "where did those two refrigerators come from?" Chris
  6. This is genuinely a joke. It has to be ... First, a brand new user, big ugly Cornwalls, Bose, bookshelf speakers, WIFE ... I would compute the probability of that happening at about 1/250. I'll take the bet [] Now, whose IP address matches the mysterious poster? Chris
  7. I'm glad that Kevin got to you, and I hope that he makes things right. In over three years, this is the first negative comment I've heard about him, so my inclination would be to give him the benefit of the doubt and the chance to rectify things. As in most things in life, there are days that all the holes in the swiss cheese align and stuff falls through. The other side of the coin is maybe Kevin's business has gotten to a scale that he needs to expand his support services to ensure good customer service. This might be the event that finally gets him to tighten up that part of his business. When I've spoken with him, he was usually at installations or trade shows, and seemed to have many balls in the air. In the interest of prudence, you may wish to alert your cc company and see what your options are. If the speakers arrive in damaged cartons, you will probably want to reject the shipment or inspect the product for damage. I don't do this stuff enough to be good at it, but there are folks here who do it all the time and are well-versed in proper and prudent procedures. When all is said and done, there is no way that Kevin would want to mess up a deal on this board, let alone hint at impropriety. Nobody would want the bad press to Klipsch and its finest fans, we loons who adore the company and its culture, and the fantastic products it designs and manufactures. Chris
  8. Wouldn't it be appropriate if you had two of what you ordered show up at your door at the same time?
  9. I left a message for him ... Hopefully he'll get back to you ASAP and get this straightened out. Chris
  10. I know Soundbroker ... I worked with him to buy a Danley DTS-20 subwoofer. He followed up on the telephone, helped me through a few challenges and a field repair on a defective amp. All in all, a really nice guy and a reputable person to deal with. He's contributed to this forum for a number of years and, while he promotes his business from time to time, his comments are straight up and on target. There has to be a problem with the communications. This just doesn't sound like his behavior. I have known him to be very busy, but he has always gotten back. I'll shoot him a note and see if that can't jog something loose. He's a good guy; there is a non sequitur here. Chris
  11. Duke, meant to say how much I enjoyed that Andy McKee video. If you haven't seen Antonio Forcione, you might enjoy this one ... He and Andy would get along great ... Chris
  12. There are waaay too many seriously demented, outrageous guitar players ... But the one that does them all well ... power chords, blazing speed, incredible tonal shifts, classical, chicken picken, Guitar Players multi-, multi-year year winner of Best Guitarist, is none other than the great Steve Morse. I followed this guy around one year in Colorado in the late 1970's ... Rainbow Music Hall, Red Rocks, even a few bars. I never knew how much a great guitarist could make a guitar just schizophrenic with multiple personalities. Check this You Tube video of Steve trying out some new strings on a variety of guitars. It's just plain silly. I saw Steve briefly in a New York City guitar repair shop. The humblest guy you'd ever want to meet. Chris
  13. Having had the pleasure of meeting him, I know Chris has a nice sense of humor. For others reading it... well... maybe I'll send them some I like your new line. Some think I'm Superfly, some think I'm Supercool and some think I'm Superbad. Superstud was also once used but that is a different story! My dogs do not give a flip as long as I feed them. BTW, Crowns and actives rule! Ditto ... One of my other favorite Superfly lines ... "You might have seen a housefly, you may have even seen a superfly, but I bet you ain't never seen a donkey fly!"
  14. Thanks, Dee, for the well-wishes. We'll be doing our best during this transition. I hadn't thought about Hope, but what a gas that would be ...
  15. Having had the pleasure of meeting him, I know Chris has a nice sense of humor. For others reading it... well... maybe I'll send them some It would take a LOT to get me cranked up right now ... Jubs actually might be just the ticket if I could find a pair that Carrie would find aesthetically pleasing!
  16. Carrie's already browsing the MLS online, checking out school systems. I'll be working in Carrollton when I'm not traveling (a lot) so it will be in North Dallas that we're looking. My old boss lives in Celina and wants me to look at doing a "ranch" up there. Frisco's close to work (just a toll road) but I'm not sure about it. Looks like it's grown awfully fast. Flower Mound, Southlake or Colleyville have good school systems, so we'll probably start looking in one of those places. Close to DFW is good too.
  17. Love those Jubilees ... I think I've read most, if not all, of the Jub threads. I could be tempted, but I'd need the RIGHT room for those ... or maybe an aircraft hanger []
  18. Hi y'all ... It's been a busy year, the last twelve months, but we have the house on the market here in Hilton Head and I was offered a job in Dallas two weeks ago, which I've accepted. I'll be starting out there on 2/11 and will be bunking in with family in Mansfield. Carrie and Jack will hang here until the end of his school year, summer vacation, or until the house sells, whichever comes first. Hopefully, all our Klipsch gear will come with us. You all know how hard it is to find a house that is good for Klipschorns; hell, I had to design our current family room around them [] Given the real estate market, it may take some time to sell our house here, but we'll be keeping a sharp eye out in the Dallas area for a swell place to live. The house is almost flawless right now and the price is great if someone can recognize a bargain. Love you guys; you're all a wonderful bunch. Can't tell you how much you've meant to me over the years. Chris, Carrie, Jack, Kim & Carly
  19. We may ... as I'm still looking for a southeast-based sales job ... but we're hedging our bets and will be listing the house soon. We figure it will take 6+ months in this kind of market to sell it ... We're thinking of Dallas ... Carrie's family is there, her dad is moving there, there are a plethora of jobs to be had ... We'll see .... Happy Holidays, all ...
  20. Gary, et al ... I've been a busy boy this fall getting the house ready for the market in a few weeks ... but I wanted to say "Merry Christmas" to you all. Let us enjoy our time with our families this holiday season ... Chris
  21. Happy Thanksgiving, folks ... Just about to carve the turkey and smash the spuds! I have a Klipschorn - Belle - Klipschorn system with Heresy rears (5.1) and a Danley Tower of Power sub and the combination is wonderful. Could it be better? Sure ... I'd take the Cornwalls and add them as a 7.1 ... but we'd be tripping over speakers in the family room. So one step at a time. The Sunfire Theater Grand I (old ...) and the Sunfire 7x200 amp separate is wonderful. I love the setup for music too ... I find the HF/LF balance to be just right and pleasant for everyday listening ... especially when cooking in the adjoining kitchen. Which is what I need to do now, so everybody have a great day with family, and God bless our service men and women who are away from theirs today ... Chris PS: We "adopted" a few Navy cadets from a nearby base for a few days ... It's been great having them around the house and doing something in return for them.
  22. My last communicae with him were a few years ago (2/2005 if I remember correctly). He was doing well but was recovering from a nasty auto accident, if I recall ... Memory's a bit fuzzy. Really nice guy, very helpful and knowledgeable. One guy I miss on the forum is Kelly Holsten (Mobile Homeless). He drove a few away and was driven away himself due to his strong beliefs, but he was one of the nicest guys I never had the pleasure of meeting. His contributions here were long and wide. Like anything in life, YRMV, but he got me on the right path down the audio lane, so to speak. His advice to me was always spot on. Chris
  23. Michael, congrats on all the enjoyment you've received and the contributions you've made. Your post rating would have been "In Need of Psychiatry" or some such moniker in the old days. Just looked at my stats, and it turns out that I've been hanging here since 11/6/2000, or seven years ago last Tuesday. Wow. Who have I met? Lots of good guys ... Formica (Rob) Painful Reality (Jean Francois) NoDisc (Tim) LeoK (Leo) Garymd (Gary) FrzninVt (Charles) JCTurboT (Jeff) Coytee (Richard) John White I'm sure I'm leaving some out so my apologies [:^)] Furthermore, I've been impressed that all of these guys are pretty regular and trustworthy. In the beginning, my wife would worry when I'd go out to meet one of Klipsch on-line buddies, but after a few visits from some really nice people, she's gotten over it ... Plus I've learned some amazing things here, e.g., : Cleaning Puke Off of Grills: Puke contains a chemical called Buteric Acid. That is what gives puke it's characteristic odor. If that oder persists, it is possible to use a mild base (not bass as Klipsch makes that already) such as baking soda and water to neutralize the buteric acid. Do not ask me how I know this. It brings back too many college memories. Almost got kicked out of a fine organization.. Is that great, or what ???? Chris
  24. We did rent Meet the Robinsons a few weeks ago (how could we NOT rent a movie with THAT title []?) ... It was a really fun movie as well. Something about the movie last night, though, that was really seamless in its production that I don't see (or hear) too often. I can't recommend the movie enough for those of you with young kids (and even teenagers). It's just a great package for clean, wholesome family fun!
  25. Our (just) eight year-old Jack has had "Ratatouille" on his mind. We missed it in the theater but put it in our Netflix queue. It arrived today and after dinner, we fired it up! It's actually a nice story, and beautifully animated. From the trailer I saw months ago, it looked like a yawn-er, but a few minutes into the movie I knew it was special. With Klipschorns and Belle across the front, nothing is lost in soundtrack detail .... at all. There is a section of the opening 10 minutes where lightning strikes the house, and the effect was electric. We all pretty much jumped out of our chairs. Further into the movie is a mouse-trip down the sewer. Before the crescendo, the LF starts rumbling, building a lot of anticipation (and tension), then culminates in a roller coaster descent that is an audio treat. It really dragged me into the ride experience. I was really surprised. The Klipschorn really gets the mid-bass right; the sub took care of the rest. The writing for this story was really outstanding; it took what could have been a predictable story line into the nuances of a human-rodent relationship, where it blossomed into a narrative of common struggles with adversity. Happily, the good guys won. However, the soundtrack and the Klipsch Heritage experience combined for a 1 + 1 = 3 type of experience. It was really emotional and in your face. Well done, Klipsch! Again and again ... Chris
