Looking for some of the old post Mainly pertaining to foam pipe insulation for tight corner fit and false corners. I know these topics have had several post before, thought I would see if anyone could point me in the direction of some good reading.

anyone ever used one of these. I bought this unit with one of the cl buys I think I got a technics record player, Sansui reciever and tape deck with the stand. So far I like how it sounds probably one of the best cd players I have owned, not that is saying much but sounds good to me considering I only paid 10.00 for the hole lot. Just posting my finds and 2 cents for what this disc player is worth. I noticed that the transport or slider was different like the laser or some wierd thing in the center were the disc spins. Nick

I agree this will give me a good weekend project I wonder if I should update caps before doing so you know I could always customize the Heresies with the tweeter and it would be a better match

well than to throw a wrench in all that theroy, The Khorns and Lascala are not stock. So unless I build the Heresy or Forte like the Khorn and Lascala I don't think it will matter that much.

I have been tossing around the idea of using my Fortes for surrounds instead of my Heresies for my surrounds. I originally was building a all Heritage ht with Khorns, and Lascala for the front 3, now I just need to decide which to use for my surrounds. One of the reasons I was pondering the idea is I am currently using my Fortes in my 2 channel setup, not that I think no speaker is to big for any room I just feel its a little over kill in the 10x10 room they are in. I will be getting my H.H. Scott 299 redone some day which I think using the Heresies would sound great and if I wanted more bass I could through in a small sub with the unpowered center channel on the Scott. Plus they wouldn't be so big, now using the Fortes I would build platforms to raise them up to desired surround speaker placement. Any thoughts recommendations, greatly appreciated. Jhoak, Is there a build thread on your IB sub, or any pics, your system looks nice by the way.

My dad has a pair of RF 5s with a Onkyo 5.1 receiver that he is using for a 2 channel system, he mainly listens to classic rock his room could use some sound treatments but that will be next anyway. Is there any decent used or older subs around 200-300 range that help out he doesn't need a lot just a little extra. Thanks Nick

I don't know if I would consider the 2 vendors scammers one of them would only want 5 dollars extra for a pair of tubes, ya $1.00 scam or a $1,000,000 scam is still a scam, but I would think you would make it worth your wild. The other company is a company I am sure lots from this site have purchased tubes in the past, maybe they were scammed. I guess you guys are probably talking more along the lines of cryo treating all of your audio gear for 100s or even 1000s. Which I think the biggest scam of all times is the fact that there are only 8 hot dog buns in a pack when there are 10 hot dogs in a package..

When I was out trying different strings, I once wanted to try the Jerry Only signature series from Dean Markley. I called every shop in town and at that time no one carried Dean Markley. I told one of the clerks that I was looking for the Jerry Only serious, he just asked me why, I figured who cares why I just wanted to try them. Any ways never got to try them but thats the only experience I had with Dean Markley, maybe once their on line store is up and running I can then give them a try. Nick

It sounds like snake oil, On another note I thought that cryo treating some helped with prolonging the life of something, maybe I was completely wrong. But that is why I am learning to ask questions first.

Title says it all, there are a couple of vendors out there that carry cryogenic treated tubes. First off what tubes, well any for that matter. But what I was looking at was the Sovtek EL-84Ms, is it necesary to do this to a power tube. I have not contacted the one vendor yet to see if they even have a couple of tubes to Cryo treat or how much they cost, the other seems to have a pair in I would have to contact them to see if they have a second. Is this process worth the extra money, or would you just by a better quality tube. The one site has the the Cryo treated tubes for only $5.00 more than a non cryo treated pair from the other vendor.\ Duder

If you are interested in a crossover upgrade, I purchased all new caps from Bob Crites about a year ago that I did not use. I would be willing to sell them at a discount price. Let me know if you are interested, also did you get your wiring figured out how do they sound. Nick

For some reason I quit getting email from this thread, anywho Craig thanks for posting. Once I receive this unit I will take as many pics of the buisness side of things as possible. However I believe one of the cans in the rear is missing this would need to be replaced right off of the bat, I know one of the threads I was reading earlier, you had posted a sight with some replacement cans I think I have it booked marked so this will be first order of action and anything else you recomend. 2nd do you have any source of 7189 tubes I will need a couple of pairs. I like reviving a old thread its kind of like recycling, plus all of the wise ones that might have posted to it might see it again as well[]. I will send pics when recieved and up and running. I always had this feeling that these would sound great with a pair of Heresies. nick

Thanks fritz, your all ways there to answer my questions, I will have to dig up some sort of schematic.

While I await for the arrival of my Scott 299, I am doing a little research. It calls for 4 7189 out put tubes, could the EL-84 be a replacement for these(I am having a hard time locating a couple of matched pairs). Also I noticed on some sights such the tube depot, that there are a couple different priced sets of tubes in the same brand. What does one get out of a higher priced tube, and do I need to keep a expensive power tubes with expensive pre amp tubes and so one. Any input would be appreciated. thanks Nick
