Thanks. My pioneer has lip sync setting since the Display is feed direct from bluray and the sound is going out the RCA s. I do not see the feature on the Oppo. Any body have this setup with 95?

I have older but quality processor, would this be a good fit?

I second that. I also have Stereo-Lab full tractrix and I can not hear a differnce to Dave Fastracks. Dave's in two planes may help tame floor and cieling reflections versus full sphericals.

I have done thre A-B-A between MC-240 and VRDs. The MC is the best on vocals but not by much. VRDs win everything else, especialy the bass by a large margin. When I want the MC sound in my VRDs I just through in Mullards in the 12AX7 slot and that gets real close to MC sound. Or I could just hook up the MC-240 but it has been over two years since I have felt the newd to do that.

Wire can be a big help. Sometimes it is not the new wire but cleaning the contact surface that allows more current to flow. I clean all my contacts every fall at the begining of the stereo season. After three or four years the differance can quite dramatic, especialy in damp Island nations or areas like Michigan or Florida.

La Scala I benifited from JBL 2405 tweeters. 46 year old ears are a factor. A-B-A tested new k77s, new crites and JBLs. Crites were an improment, mainly an extended range and presure level. JBL is had the extended range and made symbols sound more realistic, but they do not fit in a stock cabinet. I have been told that a crites with an after market JBL baby cheeks horn sound as good as the JBLs for less $$s and you are getting new instead of used.

Another VF-35 or vf-35 modded to be center.

If you already have an amp save the grand towards the VRDs and get them sooner.

Until I understand 1/10 of this statement or someone sets up my system i will remain a pacifist. Speading the power load and narrowing the band that the amp has to work on seems staight forward the other stuff? When goong active would there be signifcant benifit from selecting different amps that specialize in low or mids etc.?

This does not sound like a question...but I'll answer it anyway....the Belle and LaScala uses different types of bass bins. The belle's has a 3 sided dog house that has a gradual flair after the first turn. The LaScala has a 5 sided dog house, which has a 6" or so restricted straight section after the first turn, and as a result, the horn flair is not gradual, it's what we call fast. The straight section serves no postive audio purpose, it's just there so that the woofer will fit in the dog house, with out it, you could only get a 12" woofer in the lascala dog house. This straight section is the cause of the -10db dip at 500hz in this image. This straight section is not needed in the Belle since the Belle is wider that the LaScala and a 15" woofer fits very easy in the Belle dog house. So the Belle does not have the -10db dip at 500hz. In light of the -10db dip, and in light of the fact that the k-400 has a response range that begins at 230hz, it should be clear why a horn that begins at 500hz like the 511, leaves a lot to be desired in the mid bass area when compared to a k-400. +1 With good amplification it is surprising how good Forte IIs can sound. I had upgraded my system after buying La Scalas and moving the Forte IIs to my office. Then the day I sold my Forte IIs, I plugged them back into my system and was surprised how good they sounded. To my ears about 95% as good as the La Scalas. The low bass was stronger so I turned down my sub, but then since the Forte II mid bass was not as stong as the La Scala, that area was just tad on the lean side. Not by much we are talking a decible or two around 120 - 160 hertz only noticible on a few of the dozen songs I listened to that day. I did not mod my Forte IIs. It would be interesting to hear moded Forte IIs compared to my moded La Scalas. I know the moded La Scalas would sound better to most but not all that compared them to Forte IIs. But if someone would intall a Tractrix Midrange into a Forte II with a good tweeter, that would be a tough combo to beat. I was going to go the route of moded Forte IIs or Forte / La Scala combo but when my wife liked the way La Scalas looked over the Forte IIs who was I to argue?

If you get a third La Scala for the center channel it would be great. When the sound pans from left to right everything will match. I have a miss match in the center and it drives me nuts. The rear channels being mismatch, even with a different amp is not nearly as noticable.

They will work great for tv. They will work great for any two channel play back. They will work great for 7.1, but be a terrible timbre match to the other 5 speakers. Do not mix and match speaker types for surround sound unless the timbre matches. La Scales & Ref II is not a good match.

If you're listening at moderate levels, you don't need a subwoofer at all. Please check out this video of Belles (that roll off even earlier than La Scalas) and tell me the bass is lacking or sounds worse than a sub. Just need a 15 watt amp or greater and EQ. An SPL meter and a test tone disc wouldn't hurt either. Extension doesn't appear to be the OP's issue. As far as "tightening things up," an SS may or may not be the answer as that 845 is no slouch. There's a lot more variables involved than just the amp. I agree sub is not required, mine only gets a work out for movies and some jazz. If you lisen to euro techno funk than a subwoofer is required. If you do not have amp/sytem with good bass than a sub would be required.

VRDs are forum favorite. Designed and built by forum member who owns La Scalas. Bass is very tight.
