  1. abbasi, Which model KSF speakers are you looking at?? I put together a living room system for my mother using 4 KSF-10.5s, an RC-7 in black, and an HGS-10 in the clear acrylic. The only complaint I had was the crappy vynl instead of real wood. Upgrade her fronts to RF-7s. Roger
  2. Big Bad, First I should say, welcome to the forum. After that, I would say I have friends and family that are both wealthy or have just about nothing, so I wouldn't hold someones bottom line against them. If these are what you can afford, I say go with the better speakers as the better option. I could not care less how someone decorates. I am fairly closed minded on my opinions, but ignorance would be a mistatement as I am well informed to make my arguments, neither am I unintelligent but I don't feal the need to lament to prove a point. I was however raised in a household where my mother wore the pants in the family. In my household, I wear the pants. Most of the time, I let my wife do what ever she wants as I usually really just don't care, but by no means does she have the final say on anything. I will now observe a moment of silence for your nads... I further can understand if you don't involve yourself in the bills and she has to keep a leash on spending. Almost nobody starts out with all the things we want. You are correct about another thing as well; I don't understand living a different lifestyle as I don't understand gay marriage either... Must be part of that closed mind of mine. After fully giving you a hard time about the way you have decided to live your marriage; I would have to say that I fully agree with wsu99999. If you can find a way to finacially swing it, you will be much happier buying the used Herisies then what you are looking at. They will last you forever, can be upgraded in the future, will hold their value alot better then what you are looking at, and are much better for two channel stereo listening. I have seen some members give others a good deal hear as they know their babies will be taken care of, and you can bet that anyone who takes the time to post here, probably takes better care of their equipement then the average owner. Ebay can be another source for a good buy, but watch alot of auctions to see what stuff goes for and pay attention to feedback, most people have earned what others have to say. Have you ever had the chance to listen to a set of Hereseys?? Roger
  3. Can't believe all of you guys have bought into all the political correctness shoved up our butts for the last 30 years. Parents used to take us from Ohio to grandparents house in Ft. Meyers beach every christmas. My sister and I hated each others guts. She was 2 years 9 months older and bigger so she would sleep on the rear seat and I would sleep on the rear deck of the LTD. The chances of anything happening to the kid are astronomical, but idiots keep playing the lottery as well. Roger
  4. Dude, BigBadWolf with the avitar you have really says alot!! Klipsch would probably not be in buiseness today if the men who own Cornerhorns waited for wives that said "G honey, why don't you get those big ones in the corners". "Wife will not allow"!! Are you shure you are in the correct forum here?? Note the term "Man Cave" so often used here. With those statements made, you are always better off going with the best speakers you can afford and cheaper means of driving them than the other way arround. Roger
  5. bigdaddy, I go out to my sisters every Thanksgiving. If you want to make the trip, you could come out arround that time and hear my old Quartets playing on my old Nakamichi TA-4A reciever. It still sounds pretty good when the trains aren't running through her front yard, :-D Roger
  6. Hey bigdaddy, What part of Kansas are you from. My sister just moved from Fontana to Payola. Anywhere near there?? Roger
  7. wsu99999, Just a thought, but there is a nice used Adcom GFA-5503 Amp on ebay right now from a guy with lots of great feedback. You have Adcom, so you probably know the GFA-5500 was made to replace the GFA-555, and the GFA-5503 is a 3 channel times 200 watt RMS amp to complete a 5 channel surround with a two channel GFA-5500, so this would be a perfect match to run your front 3 channels and move the GFA-555 to rear surrounds. You could recoupe some with the sale of the GFA-2? Just a suggestion... Roger
  8. wsu99999, What do you use the old GFA-2 for??? Roger
  9. wdu99999, Your GFA-555 should be good enough. I have some Adcom stuff as well, but still prefer the Nakamichi PA-7 to the higher power GFA-565s. Roger
  10. wsu99999, Oldbuckster is correct in that placement is everything with these. Are they Fortes' or Forte IIs? My Quartets favored my long wall and needed propper "CORNER" placement for best sound. Speaker choice and accoustics are the two biggest factors in audio. Do you have two clean corners for them? Another thing about listening to them is they aren't capable of being your loudest choice, but listening at enjoyable levels for the sake of relaxing and just privately listening, not trying to impress others with a volume contest, I was able to hear and pick out alot more, but as you get to this level of listening, they will make other things stand out alot more that you never noticed. I like alot of Ozzy, VanHalen, and AC/DC, but other stuff as well. My quartets and my bigger stuff makes a bad source recording sound like shit, and it is embarresing to be trying to show off your new purchase and trying to run down why they are sounding badly. Alot of the 1970 and early 80s stuff sucks when you try to play it loudly, that you never noticed before on speakers that wouldn't magnify the problem for you, but a good source is lovely. I had my thermostat go bad and had a kid in here to replace it yesterday and just popped in an old Ozzy cd. It sounded terrible. Bad recording, and the Klipsch horns spit out their banna plugs again. One set loose, and onother set hanging freely. As a matter of fact, I should pull them out and replace them with spade connectors right now instead of typing this. Remember that your Fortes' are for fine listening, not shear volume and you will probably begin to appreciate them for what they can do. The final two thoughts I have is that these will do more to point out a poor amp than others, then I would begin to wonder about a problem with the speakers such as cross overs or drivers. REgaurdless, sorry to hear you are bumbed, but play with the possibillities. The chase of your personal audio nirvanna is half of the enjoyment, so play with placement etc., etc., etc..... What amp are you running??? Roger
  11. Oldbuckster, Those speakers are from the old proffesional line, they are 108dB sensitivity, same as the MCM-1900s. They use the same mid range horn as the MCM-1900, and have an adapter running 4 K 55-Vs in an X pattern per each Horn. The tweeters are in a Y pattern in back and have two drivers per horn. Some would call them Pro CornerHorns, but I forget the actual M designation. Roger
  12. Oldbuckster, I would have thought you would know.... Name that speaker!! Hint #1 They are Klipsch. Hint #2 They came this way from the factory. Roger
  13. Arky, No those aren't Jubilies, and they aren't just a set of Klipschorns with added backs either. Roger
  14. As far as Heritage looking ugly, no Heritage speaker I can think of looks as ugly as the lower vynl covered references. Yes, I like the cherry, but you can put any veneer on any series and come up with better than what was offered as standard fair. As far as rocking loud, 6 RF-7s wont begin to touch the volume of those two in my avitar. Roger
  15. Well Fish, I owned Quartets that I bought new back in the day and owned for 20 years. I own both K-Horns and a LaScala Center now and have owned others as well. I put together 4 KSF-10.5s with an RC-3II for my mother which I upgraded first by selling the RC-3II and moving her up to the RC-7, then I changed out her front KSF 10.5s for RF-7s. So I have personally bought and set up all of these speakers and in my opinion, my quartets sounded the best / clearest & most enjoyable. I am sure some of this was from the Nachamichi Stasis I had powering them. I have a brother in law who built a listening room 24' by 32' on 1.5 times the golden mean cube, that owns a Klipschorn settup, but also owns VOTs and Studio Monitor 19s. Unfortunately, I have also experienced tubes and what they can do for a set of perfect VOTs vs; solid stae. I went with the reference for my mom as she has a long wall, but no corners. I sold the quartets to my sister as with 7,200 sq ft, she has plenty of corners. This is beginning to ramble, but I have belonged to AudioReview for a long time and you know as well as I that you can tell who the kid is who thinks his must be best, and who knows what they are talking about, or is it just coincidence that my Stax Labda signatures are the highest rated headphones followed second by one set of high end Stenheisers, then third by the Grados. In my opinion, the list shows merit, a usable tool, although not the final word. I don't see how anybody could buy an entire RF settup for $1200 that wouldn't burn your hands though. Roger
  16. Fish, and BigDaddy take note; Check out the site I listed. Join up yourselves as it is free!! Forte is rated 4.93 out of a possible 5 stars from 85 ratings from owners of these speakers. RF-7 is rated 4.86 out of 5 possible stars out of 71 ratings from owners of these speakers. La Scala is rated 4.72 out of a possible 5 stars from 57 owners. Klipschorn is rated 4.66 out of a possible 5 stars from 108 owners. These are not some like this better and some like that, these are "Trends". The speakers sound, and value are rated, plus each one has a write up on that speaker by the owner. This site rates headphones, amps, subs, receivers, interconnects, everything!! I find it a useful guide. The Chorus, Forte, and Quartet all rate higher by owner satisfaction than all other klipsch speakers, with the Forte in first place, and the Chorus in last place of these three speakers!! Roger
  17. wsu99999, Buy the LaScalas and NEVER, EVER, look back. Of the 3, the Forte' 2 has the best sound and is the most highly rated Klipsch speaker ever made as rated by owners at www.audioreview.com under the reviews section for Speakers, under Klipsch, under "older equipement only" The LaScalas will absolutely ROCK, and although all speakers should have a corner placement, the LaScalas don't have too, where as the Forte 2 really must have corners to enhance the Bass output of their rear facing passive radiator. Most importantly, with surround sound, your Center Channel and Sub Woofer, are by far the two most important speakers, and you should buy the absolute best that you can afford for these two speakers, but until you can afford to spend the money, Adcom made pre-amps you can buy cheap on EBay that you can seperately adjust the outputs to the front (L&R), the (Center), and the (Rear Surrounds). The ADCOM GTP-600 has all these features and can be had on EBay for <$200. For a "seperates AMP, you can get a ADCOM GFA-7000 for <$400. This amp is one of their poorest amps, but still alot better than most receivers, and sounds like it could be in your budget. Further, you can always upgrade the AMP later. The GFA-7000 is 125 Watts RMS X 5 Channels. The RF-7s look pretty nice in the Cherry Finish, and have better wife approval as such, but both of the other speakers are better for sound. Roger
  18. EVGuy, Another Question; Do you have plans and measurenments for these cabinets that you have built yourself?? Would you please scan and email to me at rgordon@watchtv.net Thanks!!.... Roger
  19. EVGuy, I really like the look of your home made Corner Horn type enclosure prodject for your Patrician IVs alot better than the stock looking settup. It must be very impressive in person. Do you ever plan on enclosing the backs?? I really like what you have done with them, thanks for sharring!! Roger
  20. oldbuckster, Perhaps you should explain to other people that one of the most common traits of someone with depression, or in the depressed phase of Bi-Polar is extreme, illogical anger. I think most people think of "why me" syndrome or the person who wants to stay in bed all day because of the depression, and don't reallize an obvious sign is swings of extreme outrage or being "pissed off" to an extent that just doesn't make sence. If you know of someone that may be nice one time and stay up all night cleaning or getting work done, and at other times has almost no fuse what so ever, don't just explain it away to yourself that they are probably just tired and under alot of stress, as this person is probably Bi-Polar. Roger
  21. Travis, Lawer mentallity at it's worst, I know as my brother and his wife are both attourneys, but if you read further than the end of your nose, you would realize that it was not "pot calling the kettle black" as you referenced and if you had paid attention I first posted in bold that I felt for Glen in a way you probably are incapable of as I had my favorite uncle beaten to death by a mentally disturbed man who used a tree branch to bludgeon him to death. They didn't find my uncle till the next morning on a trail at a state park and he died hours later in the hospital. He spent about 20 of his last 24 hours alone bleeding, beaten, and cold. Further, I first posted how sorry I felt for Glen in bold, but "Iwillwalk" never even aknowledged the loss that Glen was expressing. Further still, you first attack my view, then post to Glen. I wasn't talking about preventative maintinance, but punishment after the fact, so go bury your nose in your books for precidence as I have more personal experience with the aftermath of these disturbed people as well as proffesional expierience in the clinical setting. There is no clause in the constitution to protect the right to murder, and our much wiser forfathers who wrote that piece of paper you are touting, would not have hesitated in putting the mentally disturbed murderer down, so what makes you think that YOU are wiser than the framers of that piece of paper?? Roger
  22. EVGuy, Sounds like you could have used those 700s for your front left and right channels and your Georgians for rear surrounds. How do you like the EV 18W-K VS: the EV 15W-Ks?? Roger[]
  23. EVGuy, Thanks for the corrections. I felt that someone who was cosiddering building a set, that did not know of the plans existance, probably would not realize the financial undertaking involved here. I bought one EV 15W-K and tried it back and forth with my center channel LaScala, and it went lower and louder even after the stock LaScala woofer was audibly kliping, so I started aquiring the other EV 15W-Ks and swapping them all out and putting the EVs in my speakers, although there are a couple of very highly regaurded members here that tell me the K 33-E is a better driver, my eyes and ears tell me otherwise. I think the EV 15W-Ks are a bargain. I would eventually like to find a very cosmetically rough corner horn as well, and try to install an EV 18W-K to see how I like that, but I am presently fidling with my mid drivers to see what I like best, and plan on buying a T-350 tweet and seeing how I like that. I even went so far as to buy an EV 15 SRO to cut up (as they are cheap) to take the magnet structure apart to see about replacing the Alnico with Neodynium magnets to make them even more efficient to see how I would like that, but after talking with a couple of manufactuerers, found that nobody that can make a custom Neodynium, can make larger than 6.5 inches in diameter at this time. The search for the holy grail continues!! I was planning on contacting the seller of those patrician 700s and driving up to hear them as I am in Ohio. What a beutiful find!! I just felt I had to share it on the forum with those that could truely appreciate what these babies are........ Roger
  24. duder1982, The plans for these could be gotten straight from Electro Voice back in the 1950s' and 60s' as they sold the driver sets to the public for the do it yourselfer that could not afford these things. These plans can still be bought almost every week on EBay under Electro Voice, but make no mistakes here, these speakers were far more expensive and elitist than Corner Horns even when they were new. To give you, and others an idea of what you are looking at, Paul Wilbur Klipsch used to buy Electro Voice EV 15W-Ks from Electro Voice for the Corner Horns back in the 50s'. (The "K" in the discription for the EV 15W-K and the EV 18W-K denotes "Klipsch" and means they have a 4 Ohm voice coil for horn loaded placement,) Electro Voice made 3 different models of the EV 15-WK, this is not the EV 15W!!. The 1960s 15W-K has ceramic magnets and the magnet structure looks like the one on the Electro Voice 30" EV 30W Woofer in these patricians. These ceramic magnet EV 15W-Ks only bring a little over $100 a driver on Ebay. The two earlier Alnico Magnet EV 15W-Ks are considdered by many to be the best woofer ever put in a Corner Horn. The oldest style bring about $300 plus a driver in very nice condition, but almost never come up for sale. The middle production EV 15W-Ks are what I put in my Corner Horns and LaScala Center Channel and bring about $250 a driver. Electro Voice built 3 different Patrician models. They built the Patrician 700 shown in the above auction and they built an even larger Patrician 800 that was alot wider for flat wall placement instead of corner loading. The 800s' also had the 30" EV 30W woofer and weighed 350 lbs. each. Back in the day most of these systems were mono single speaker settups, so a matched set of the 700s or 800s in this condition could expect to fetch $20,000 to $25,000 for the pair, and would probably go to the Asian market. Can you immagine the shipping?? Duder1982, If you are seriously considdering building your own, the cross overs are fairly inexpensive, but you can expect $500 or more each for those L Pads in fair shape, if you can find them one at a time. The EV 25 mid range horns are cheap and can be had in very nice shape for under $200 each, the EV SP-12 full range mid woofers can be had in excellent shape for $100 to $150 a piece or mint for under $250 each. Now the EV T350 chrome tweeters that go up to 22,000 Hz are rare in the chrome and will fetch $1,000 for a pair up to $1250 a pair for mint. The EV 30W woofers can be bought in real nice used condition for $3,000 for a pair, so you are talking arround $6,000 for the guts before you buy your wood and Veneer to try to build your own set as well. You could probably buy all the parts for a pair within a year on ebay if you are willing to be the high bidder when it comes up, except for the L-Pads. I have only seen one come up by itself for sale in the last year and 1/2. I saw a single Patrician that was beeing scrapped for parts, that some idiot that didn't know what he had, parked out in his back yard in the mud for 1.5 years under a plastic tarp and that is where the L-Pad and other parts that were for sale were comming from. The third Patrician is the Patrician 400 which used a 4 ohm EV-18W-K 18" woofer. The model below the Patrician 400 is a corner loaded Georgian that also used the EV 18W-K woofer. These EV 18W-Ks bring $1000 each and almost never come up for sale. Paul Wilbur Klipsch helped design the Georgian and other Electro Voice corner loaded speakers. The EV 18W-K was sold and could be had with plans to open up the throat of your Corner Horns for instalatin of the 18" woofer. The Georgians are considdered a step up from Corner Horns and a nice unmatched pair can fetch $5,000 a pair, so this gives an idea of where the big Patricians fit into the scale of things. I know of a guy that has one of about only 7 sets of Klipsch MCM-1900s that were produced for home use and have a lovely fininished Birch Plywood construction like LaScalas. He also owns Corner Horns, and the only speakers he owns that he likes better than his Klipsch MCMs is his Patricians. These are "DREAM GEAR", and that is why I posted them for everyone to enjoy. So duder1982, Do you still want to try to build a set???? Roger
