    Superbit DVDs

Anybody have any of these? I just picked up Fifth Element Superbit, I own the regular version, but haven't really compared side by side. Can you tell a difference? If so, is there any certain scene I should check out? There are a few other titles I already own, but don't want to invest if there isn't a noticable difference. ------------------ My Home Theater
  2. RCA DRD450, 480, 485. Sony SAT-A50, A55, A65, Any Mitsubishi, any of the Tivo or Ultimate TV combo units, to name a few. Why does it need to work with your card if it is not illegal? Usually when you buy a box from a dealer, it comes with a brand new card. ------------------ My Home Theater
  3. Let me first just say, I don't really understand your drywaller's lingo , but there are also RCR-5's that are made for ceiling mounting. There is no reason why the RCW's wouldn't work, but they are going to give a more directional sound (will fire the sound right at you.) In general, round ceiling speakers are better for surround, because, like a bi/dipole, they tend to spread the sound out throughout the area. If you go with the RCW's you might find that that is all you'll hear. ------------------ My Home Theater
  4. Boa, I don't understand, you're comparing two different movies? Do you think DD sounds better than DTS on the T2 disc (it has both, you know?) I'm talking about a comparison of the same movie where DD sounds better. I'm not saying they can't possibly exist, I've just never run into it. Truthfully, though, I don't ususally play both formats if a disc has both, I just go straight to the DTS version. ------------------ My Home Theater
  5. You can only assign one device per Digital input. Your VCR has Digital Coax??? I don't understand what you are trying to do. How can you be sending 2 devices to one input anyway? This receiver should have enough digital inputs for all of your digital sources, including your Digital VCR. ------------------ My Home Theater
  6. By the way, good choice on DVD players. ------------------ My Home Theater
  7. Hey, for listening to stereo CD's you might want to try (drum roll please) stereo!!! Don't get me wrong, I use 7 channel stereo, too, when I'm in another room or showing off how loud my system can go. But if I'm sitting down listening, I use good old fashioned 2 channel stereo. ------------------ My Home Theater
  8. If you decide not to get the 3801, I'll buy it, just tell me where. ------------------ My Home Theater
  9. Justin, congrats on the new TV, I came late, but am glad you didn't need me to save you from getting the Sony. What a pain with the delivery, what kind of outfit are you buying from. Ray, if you ordered online, would they bring the 55" TV in the house, or drop it off at the front door. Also, Mits is (supposedly) totally against online sales. May not get warranty, etc. if purchased online. ------------------ My Home Theater
  10. eq_shadimar, give some examples where DD sounds better. I say, give me 5 minutes, my Demo Discs and any old surround sound system and I'll show you that DTS is better. I have purchased DVD's in the past and will probably do so in the future just because they are DTS. I have caught myself involved in a movie more than once with a DTS soundtrack, and suddenly stopped and said "Man this disc sounds great" this is when I'm in the middle of watching, and not thinking about the sound. To me that says a lot. ------------------ My Home Theater
  11. Punny, from the titles on your photos looks like you've already made your decision. Not sure what you're referring to though. The posters on the wall, the grilles on or off, the little stuffed animal on the speaker, or the wires looking neat in the first pic and strung out everywhere on the second. I think the first one looks much better. Next purchase: A new stand, probably black because everything you have is black, or maybe something to blend in with the carpet? ------------------ My Home Theater
  12. dsommerl, shame on you. You can't see a difference in quality between a $150 player and a nice one? I saw a huge difference between my cheap sony and my Panny RP-91 on my 34" TV. And if nothing else, the sound quality from a $150 DVD player is horrible. Good recommendations, though. Nobody mentioned the new Pioneer Elite DV-47A. DVD Audio, SACD, and Progressive Scan all in one!!! If I was buying a DVD player today, this is the one I would get. Happy with my Panny for now, though. ------------------ My Home Theater

    Pronto?

I've gone through quite a few Universal Remotes, and have always been disappointed. Until I got the Pronto. I LOVE the Pronto, and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you can hook it up to your computer and get the most out of it. I had a hard time at first, but just kind of learned on my own. Warning: You will not get much sleep once you start to program the thing!! ------------------ My Home Theater
  14. Cool pictures everyone. Justin, I tried to download your wallpapers, but it said "Page not Available." Ty, cool website, you looked like you might've had a few on the BBQ picture. Charlie, cool set up, but I can't tell what equipment you have, except for Yamaha receiver and Monster Power center (HTS 5K?) Imageman, SWEET looking set-up. Hitachi makes an HD box??? Is it Off-Air only or DirecTv as well? How do you like it? You gotta get rid of that 4x3 thing though, Hitachi has a 43" widescreen that is really nice. You'd need to replace your stand though. Thanks everyone for sharing pics. If I ever get a digital camera or scanner, I'll post mine. ------------------ My Home Theater

    FREE THX Demo!!!

jhawk, what do you mean they ignore the rear center? On the Tex demo, the little guy stops right in the rear center, makes a sawing sound, then hits himself with a hammer, all perfectly in the rear center. Also real good localized bass in the rears, and rear center, if your system is set up to handle it. As far as the jungle sounds, I don't know. I never thought it was that amazing on the original, but I admit it wasn't how I remembered it. All in all though, pretty cool for a quick demo to show someone what surround sound is all about. I don't think I'd show it to try and impress anyone who was already into surround sound, just the uninitiated. And you can't beat the price. QUICKSR, the demo playing in your DVD player doesn't mean it's DVD-Audio capable, because DVD-Audio discs have an extra layer for Dolby Digital or DTS, so that might have been what you heard, DD and DTS will pass through a digital cable, DVD Audio will not. You need multi channel inputs hooked up to get the full effect of DVD Audio. The Entre thing is definitely cool, but I don't know if it works with other equipment, and I sure wouldn't buy that UGLY looking receiver. I'm going to check into whether or not it would work with my stuff. ------------------ My Home Theater This message has been edited by toddvj on 03-20-2002 at 12:34 AM
  16. How about a store that sells them? ------------------ My Home Theater
  17. Does Anyone know what the temperature rating is on these speakers? What temperatures they are safe to leave outside? I live in Minnesota and it gets well below zero at times. ------------------ My Home Theater

    RP5s

They are also showing the speaker with and without the grille. When I got my RP-5's, the box was labled A and B, for left and right ------------------ My Home Theater

    FREE THX Demo!!!

Hey Guys, if you want to own the THX-EX "Tex 2" Demo, but don't want to spend the insane prices they're asking on ebay go to this website. They will mail you a FREE disc that includes information about the Kenwood Sovereign line of products, but also includes the famous THX demos TEX2 and Jungle sounds. You also get some music videos and some multichannel music demos. Check it out. ------------------ My Home Theater
  21. You aren't getting the best picture with your satellite because you aren't using the S-Video that you have hooked up. How often do you use your VCR? Best thing you can do is switch to Video 1 (or whichever input you have the S-Video plugged into). Then you can switch between DVD and Satellite just by switching inputs on the Receiver. One button does it all, you wouldn't even need to turn on the VCR, except when you want to use it. The only time you'd need to switch inputs on the TV is when you wanted to use (watch) the VCR. You could even record without switching, you just wouldn't see the onscreen display. To make life really easy, get an S-VHS VCR. You could then hook it up using the "Tape Loop" (VCR out to VCR in on Receiver, VCR out on Receiver to VCR in) and then you'd just press VCR on the receiver's remote to watch VCR and you'd never have to switch inputs on the TV. Hope this helps. Let me know, you can e-mail me too, if you want. ------------------ My Home Theater
  22. What a bunch of cheapskates you guys are. Buy good cables, don't mess around with radio shack stuff. I don't understand why someone will buy all this expensive gear and skimp on cables. If you have to get cheap ones to get you by, fine. But when you can afford to get better ones, do it. Once you have good cables, you never have to worry about upgrading, etc. The peace of mind alone of knowing you have good stuff is worth it. Yes you will definitely notice a difference with component cables. You also need a digital cable to go between the DVD and Receiver, either Digital Coax, or Optical. As far as QUIKSR's hookup suggestion, I'm not sure why you would want/need speaker wire to the sub, if you already have a RCA out to it. ------------------ My Home Theater
  23. I've got another funny little quirk about the Eagles Disc. If I set it to DTS, I have to go through all the little trailers and such in order to get DTS. If I skip chapter through all that stuff, it switches to Dolby Digital, and I can't get the Seven Bridges at all. Kinda strange, haven't encountered on any other DVD. Not that this has anything to do with the Steely Dan Video. ------------------ My Home Theater
  24. Well, you won't get nearly the quality, but you can buy one of the DVD/VCR combo units. All of them have 75 Ohm Coax output, as far as I know. You can also get a RF modulator that will allow you to convert from RCA to Coax with any DVD player. The only reason I would use it though is if I had to. Best bet is to hook up the system in a way that you wouldn't have to click five buttons. With most AV receivers, set up correctly, you can switch with the click of only one button. ------------------ My Home Theater
  25. The Analog connections definitely sound better than the digital. I also have the DVD-RP91, and everyone I've played it for has heard a difference, even my wife. If she can tell, there definitely is a difference. 10x or no, it is night and day. Mike, you say the RP91 doesn't have bass management? What is the Multi-Channel set up for then? You can set the speaks to small or large, I assumed this was for bass mgmt. I set all my speakers to large anyway, but still...... ------------------ My Home Theater
