  1. Glad you're liking the new center.  You have the Klipsch illness now.  For many of us, it doesn't stop, just gets worse.  I have noticed though that with my KV3 center and my RC-62 II centers that they sound 'boxy'.  They need a little EQ work to calm them down.  I've seen this when measuring with REW.  If I'm not mistaken, they're a little hot in the 500 - 600 hz range.

I agree with WVU 80.  Get a good wall mount for the TV and place it just above the max height that is allowable for the center.   I like the telescoping, tilting, pivoting ones.  Not hard to do.  Then, you can have the center that you want.  Plus, the wall mounts are only about $25 - 35 bucks.  A little hardware, some patience, and you're good.

This one is $27 on the bay.  Similar to the one I set up in the basement.

  2. Ouch, I agree with Ceptorman.  Looks like if you pulled the bottom driver, applied some wood filler, sanded carefully as to not damage the area around it, and not get any mess in the cabinet, then went with a satin black paint you could get it looking OK.  Definitely, up and down strokes with the brush.  Or, maybe take it to a cabinet shop and see if they could help you out.  Just a thought.

  3. Hate to say it, but it's because of this thread.  Not specifically the reason, but people talk about it, hate it, but talk about it.  The Royal Family has nothing on the Kardashians.  Worthless people in my mind.  Who cares, but one of them sneezes and it's a headline.  So, is it that media drives what people want, or is it people drive what the media show's us?  Either way, you're both right.  You want to change the channel, but it's on every channel......

  4. derrickdj1 said that he used casters on some of his subs.  So, I did the same thing.  They work great for moving/placement.  Not the most aesthetically pleasing, really not bad though, but I'm generally the only one who sees my sub anyway.  I have carpet, so they hide a little more when they sink down.  Using them again on the second sub that I'm building.

They're 1 1/2" tall and work well.  Just a thought.

Not me...I haven't done the sub crawl myself.  LOL  I know where my subs can go.   Not much physical room in my theater.

Agreed.  My room is a bit on the mid side, 500 sq. ft. but placement options are limited.  So, I default to 'perceived' placement.  Went and saw rock band Dorothy in a lounge here recently and they had 4, I wouldn't call them bass bins, but dual 18" ported enclosures just below the stage up front.  When the bass drum hit it went right through you, and probably a 5 building radius from that.  Dig your videos.  So, how do I acquire a set of RF-7II's in that beautiful cherry for free testing, like 10 years or so?  :D

    Google Sub Crawl

And be sure to invite family and friends over when you do so.  They won't think your weird at all.  In fact, make a game out of it, whomever finds the best spot wins a prize.  Maybe a cupcake or something.  Seriously though, it's a great place to start.  I'm adding sub #2 soon.  I have to admit not placed with the crawl.  Both will be up front, between the mains, as I envision where the source should come from.  Chris A, Youthman, and others will skewer me for saying so.  But, it's my placement of choice.  Even though REW is giving me a WTH??.

  7. Have never heard them.  Here's the spec sheet from Klipsch.  I do love that Klipsch still has these materials available, helps a buyer make more informed decisions.  I can't believe that these spec sheets are from the 90's, feeling a little dated.

Uh yes, I knew it was just a matter of time before there was pic of one, big hairy ones are the worst. I quit rabbit hunting because of those huge banana spiders webs, you walk right into them before you see them sometimes. :( I think I shot more spiders than rabbits.

A friend I worked with was bitten by one while unpacking a crate that had equipment parts packed with straw around it, he was in the hospital for months and almost lost his hand.

Was laughing at the 'shooting more spiders...." not that you're friend almost lost a hand.

  9. Here's a link to some Cornwall II's about 15 minutes from me.  I have no Heritage and would like to start somewhere.  I need some honest opinion here, which knowing this forum, I'm sure to get.  I've been running KG 5.5's since I bought them new back in, well, over 20 years ago.  Is there a significant sound improvement over the 5.5's?  Is the price reasonable?  Thoughts are appreciated here.

    He's asking $750 for them.

  10. Bummed about Hawking.  Great mind for sure.  Loved watching any shows he did, etc.  I could've tried reading papers of his but it would have been a waste of those pages time.  Glad though that @BigStewMan can keep us moving forward with String Theory, Black Holes, Dark Matter, and the like.  Phew, that is a relief.  :D

Not to mention, Toys R Us is folding as well.  Damn technology is killing everything.  Hawking warned that AI would be the end of us.  Terminator, The Matrix, may not be far away.  But, what do I know, I'm a peasant.  Just not looking forward to when my toaster tries to actively end me.

  11. This thread has definitely veered off the road.  Had scorpions, little silver lizards, potato bugs, black widows, snakes, all the good stuff where I grew up in CA.  I avoided getting bitten or stung by them, I wasn't one to test how far I could go with them.  I'd mess with them for sure, but to a point.  Crazy thing was to take a canning jar put a scorpion in it, then add about 20 - 25 fire ants.  One heckuva battle.  So cruel, so cruel....

Hey dtel, you mean you don't like these?

Wolf spiders, one of many types up here.  They like to come running out from under piles of clothes, shoes on the floor, etc.  Yeah, they like to live inside, more toward the colder months, don't pay rent though, die they must.

  12. I don't even own a pair of KHorns and from what you're describing I'd do it in a heartbeat.  $1500 is a really good price from what I've seen.  Leaves you room for some upgrades if you feel that you need to after you get the home.  Once properly placed, driven with better upstream gear, I can only imagine how happy you'll be.  My vote is to open the wallet and load them up.

    Edit:

They do still make the Khorns, base units are $6K each, 70th Anniversary are even more.

  13. This arrived today, a really cool Lego set from Parts Express!!  This is the second sub that I'm adding of the same type.  Won't be done for a couple of months yet, weather won't be good for painting until then.  Can't wait to get it finished.

  14. I've messed with toe-in/out a bunch.  It depends on your room, spacing, etc.  I'm mainly a music guy so I play the same track repeatedly with each subsequent position change.  Try and find that point where the music sounds like it's right in front of you.  Harder to discern left and right.  I'd sit in both positions with each change to see how the imaging sounds to you.  I run a pair of 5.5's, similar, but not the same, two way with horn and two active DR 10's in each cab.

My previous laptop was an HP.  It had a defective hinge assembly that eventually cracked up the casing around the hinge.  Occasionally, little chips would break off the casing.  Finally, it just kind of collapsed on itself and ruined the cooling fan, which caused very quick overheating and failure of the CPU.  That machine sucked!  It turned me off of HP.  I had other HP's before that that weren't so brittle, but that last one was something else.

I'll give you one guess as to what brand I got?  You guessed it, an HP.  So far, it's been a great laptop.  The hinge assembly seems to be a lot better than the Dell.  Thankfully, they're on the company.
