  1. For the following list, may I suggest that you assume the identity of one Mister Hollis Wood, "Hollywood" aka Slim Pickens in the movie 1941. Slim was being detained on a Japanese submarine and his captors were going through his pockets. He spoke aloud as each item was held up for inspection. "One pair of genuwine Klipsch KLF 20 loudspeakers in Satin Black, One genuwine Klipsch KLF C7 center channel speaker also in Satin Black, One large Klipsch Subwoofer Model number KSW 15 weighs a ton, One pair of Klipsch rear channel speakers model SF 1 and One Yamaha HT receiver model number RX V1500 with 120 wpc times seven........" Eight Hundred bucks. How sweet it is! Craigslist. What am I going to do with all this stuff???
  2. I found it on CL. He foamed at the mouth describing how perfect it was. As if it just left Japan perfect and was administered to by lovely young Geishas wearing the finest silk kimonos and white cotton gloves. My sphincter. Pretty big (3/4") and very deep scratch on the pretty face. And for good measure, another smaller too, but just as evident. So, two strikes from MINT. No wood case. "I never let dust get in there, I kept a towel on top of it". OK, perhaps the overheating didn't cause the significant scratching on the face but what the hell is all the scratching in the left channel at bottom third of the volume pot or the balance pot? It needed some Deox and who knows what else. I didn't go any further with the demo. His price might have been fair if the unit was as described, but not as it actually was. Perhaps MINT means, "fair" in CL lingo. So, I let it go and picked up a Marantz CD player for 50 bucks. C 'est la vie.
  3. Gents, Someone is dangling one of these in my face but its price isn't making me jump. I am the king of cheap! I picked up a 2240 for $40 and love it. Supposedly it's perfect, but I don't know if its got the wood case or not. There are two on eBay at outrageous "Buy It Now" prices. I'm going to guess that it sounds sweet judging by my 2240. But, what's it worth? I really don't need it, but I could always sell the 2240. It seems to me that the prices of quality 70-80s SS gear are going up lately. I wonder if people are getting tired of the nasty plastic cheap HT receivers so prevalent today.
  4. Main link: http://www.kplu.org/ Blues Link: http://kplu.org/term/blues-time-machine Terriffic online stream. NPR news in the morning (for all you commies, myself included). Excellent Jazz throughout the day (for all you geezers, myself included). Outstanding blues programming and online content (see second link) and all blues evening shows, especially on the weekends (for all you blues nuts, myself included). I'll fill my tumbler, open the stream and then my Amazon account and listen, buy, listen, buy. It's a fantastic way to discover and sample old and/or hard to find recordings. It's also a great way to get really fat and waste hour upon hour with a big smile on your face and a fantastic reason to have some quality Klipsch and an amp tied to your PC. [D]
  5. The fascination with home boy stop light bass has dicked up recordings as well. I used to listen to a ton of Steely Dan on LP in my yout. When listening to their last few CD's I have to significantly de-emphasizing the bass as compared to what they used to send to market. Thanks for the link. I tried to 'splain this to my daughter but I didn't ahve the necessary means the necessary means to make the point as clearly as this vid. NTM.....it's painfully easy.
  6. I use a Niles SPK1. If one is so inclined and can wait, they can be found for little on eBay and CL. I picked up two for 30 bucks.
  7. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lepai-2020-Stereo-hi-fi-TRIPATH-amplifier-AMP-adapter-/320678441760?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa9ecb320 Here's a link to the type that I purchased. The one listed in the original post looks like it may be a superior unit. For grins, I hooked it up to my brothers Chorus while he was at work. I was listening to them when he came home using my ipod as the source, so a lousy signal. I was on the couch with all the junk in my lap. He was curious as to why there wires running all over the room and amazed when he realized that the Chours were hooked up to the Lepai. He now has one on his desk at work with some Klipsch PC speaks. 35 bucks? I've got two spares for the boat. One is in a TO GO bag along with a small 12V motorcycle battery and a pair of small Klipsch bookshelf speakers. In North Carolina one can drive a 4WD truck on many of the beaches and spend a day in near solitude. Needless to say my TO GO bag is the first thing packed. If the one above is a superior unit, I'll probably have to buy one of them as well.
  8. The other Lepai does have the 1/8" pin jack. You probably already know that, but if anyone else doesn't and is looking for a very cheap, very small (which can also be used in 12V applications) nice sounding amp, they're hard to beat. For grins I hooked on up to my KG5.2s and was very happy...up to about 9, then it begins to show it's limitations. But for a bedroom or office etc, it would be adequate. You could always use a 1/8 to RCA connector. That's what Throat Warbler Mangrove uses on his Raymond Luxury Yacht-t-t-t-t-t-t-t.
  9. Old is all I can afford and aside from my Denon AVR 3600 HT receiver, all that I own. When I look at the junk on the shelves in many audio retailers these days I'm grateful for my old junk and the willingness of people to trade up and sell on CL. And when the big knob screws itself toward 11, I are even mo' gratefullerer.
  10. I've got your basic white trash Craigslist trailer park setup. Nothing too fancy, which is because I don't really know what I'm doing. But, I enjoy every damn second of it! Four speaks driven simultaneously through two big amps and one pre. I am unable to A / B, but I can AplusB the hell out of them, especially if LOUD is one of the benchmarks used to gauge the system and things vibrating off tables is acceptable. Guess how I broke my etched glass Klipsch sign? I have no fader control, so I parked my couch right in the sweet spot. Crack a PBR, toss in some Skynyrd or Wayne The Train and you're good to go! ("Get in the truck, b*tch!) CF3's and KG5.2's in a front / rear LL/RR setup. Because I also use these for my HT this is just the easiest way to use them for music. I use Niles SPKs to control things. Music 95% of the time, TV / Movies 5%. Oddly enough, all morning I've been listening to Baroque Trumpet music with a few cuts from Cannonball Adderely tossed in for good measure. My neighbors don't seem to mind this nearly as much as Doctor Funkenstein or Cake.
  11. Kenwood integrated amp, Dual 1229, Bozaks. Thought I was in heaven!
  12. The Epic's seem to be the red-headed, hair-lipped step child from Hope. I'm glad you enjoy them. I'm thrilled with mine but have only compared them to Forte I, KG5.2, KG4 and KG3.2. I got them for next to nothing. Hard to do with Heritage. That big horn can sound harsh on crappy recordings and the boxes are capable of copious bass. I fiddle with the tone controls for each disc / album / etc but I always end up happy. Kick butt!
  13. I've got some CF3's and they definitely sound better with more juice. I went from 80 to 200ish and the bass tightened up significantly and is much more defined. Overall they just sound better.
  14. There is a pair available locally for 70 bucks, original owner, refoamed, and they appear to be in fine shape. I don't need them, but my squeeze is desperately in need of some decent speaks. So, the thought is....grab them now and wait for something mo' betta' because the price is right. They can always be used later for something else...garage etc. Now, there IS something better....how bout some really nice Klipschorns for $3000?? http://victoria.en.craigslist.ca/ele/2685472547.html But, they're a bit over budget and squeezie would equate them to parking a pair of Saturn 5 rockets in her living room. Back to the ARs, I remember a recent thread about AR4s and I'd love some additional opinions. So....opine. She likes Jazz, Cuban, Classical and 70-90s rock.
  15. The other speaker looks just as good. I chose to show the worst one.
  16. Thanks. You can see water stains on the cardboard box in the top pic. My CFs came out OK but took forever to dry out even with a hair dryer shoved in the ports at the bottom. There is some minor swelling at their bases but unless one goes looking closely for flaws, its not evident. The veneeer did not check but you can feel a tiny ridge between some of the seams along the bottom foot of the speaks. They still sound great. Because of the ports the water was free to enter the cabinet and soak the MDF. This is the top of the 5.2 which showed water damage. It looks better with each application of oil. This pic makes it look worse than it actually is.
  17. I cannot locate my good camera. These were taken with a first gen Digicam with low res.
  18. Ha Ha! I knew that was coming Dennie! My cam is charging and I'll try and get some pics up soon. Hopefully I can get decent shots which adequately represent the speaks. If the cam shots are lousy, I'll try my new droid phone. It's got an insanely high resolution and ought to barf out a decent pic. My pathetic PC skills however may torpedo the whole thing! Spots on grill are the product of cam. Note how the rug really ties the room together
  19. []Day one: I find a posting for a pair of KG4s. Oiled Oak in very good condition. 50 bucks. I responded about 18 mins after the ad was posted and picked them up the next morning on day two. He says, "I probably should have asked more for them as I have gotten flooded with emails". Cosmetically they are 8 out of 10 with small very chips missing from the veneer on a few corners and one pretty good ding along the front top edge. The chips were on the front of the risers so I just removed them and spun the back to front. Reinstalled and Voila! Functionally perfect and grills excellent. Not too shabby! There were going to become the rears for my HT set up, but then... Day three I find a guy selling a pair of Oiled Walnut KG5.2s in "emaculant" condition 20 mins from the dudes house. I hit him up about two hours after the ad was posted and he says that there is another guy interested. I tell him I can be there within 20 mins with cash and a truck. Did I mention that he is also selling a Yamaha RX V1400 receiver and a Sony CDP CE 75 CD player along with the speakers for...100 bucks. The speaks weren't "emaculant" but they are very good. Again 8 out of 10 with minor scratches, two very small veneer chips and very slight water stain ghosting on the top of one. One grill is excellent and the other has a fairly big ding across the top edge where something must have fallen against it. Functionally the speakers are perfect. I spent a few hours cleaning them up and have been applying oil for the last few days. They look very very good and sound fantastic. The water stain is almost invisible and the minor marks cleaned up nicely. I am very happy with them and they are now the rears on my HT set up. I now rate them 9/10. The receiver and CD player work fine and are both in excellent condition. I also got two very long strands of very very thick speaker wire. I don't know the gauge but it is approx twice the thickness of heavy lamp cord. Hell that's probably 60 bucks of wire the way copper is going lately. Not bad for 150 bucks!! Still looking for my Cornwalls and KLF30s.
  20. I'm using two Niles SPK switching units. In order for them to function as intended they must be powered by a receiver to "sense" current flow and use this signal to operate their relays (??? guessing as I am a total dolt and know zits about electrons). IOW, I am running the same speaks in 2 and 4 channel mode using two diff amps through the SPKs. I bought one of the Panasonic SA XR receivers to see what all the fuss was about but I am unable to use it because it doesn't have plug sockets in the back for other components. On my Denon AVR3600 I use the plugs to "drive" the SPKs. When the Denon is on, the SPKs send the signal from the Denon. And when its off, they send the signal from the sonic turd. Is there another way to wire the SPK mofos up in order to use the SA XR? Or should I just go an refresh my cocktail and forget about the whole shebang?
  21. There is a bug in the EVO / Smart Phone App for the Touch. The list of albums, artists, etc will appear but when you go to scroll, the original list remains in place when the scroll begins. Makes for interesting reading and reminds me of my youth. There is a fix available and I am waiting for it from L-Tech. When I get it I'll repost. It may be above my grade level, so we shall see.
  22. FYI, Sprint had me 1. Find and then delete the wifi connection to my home router. 2. Depower the unit and remove the batt for one minute 3. Reboot, refind my WIFI . 4. Enter WEP key. It now works like a champ. This is pretty schweeet!
  23. I double checked the wep key and still no luck. I'll give Sprint a call. Tomorrow I'll fire up my laptop and see if it too is having issues. My FIOS box was just replaced as a result of the flood. Perhaps that's it. Its odd becasue the phone shows good signal strength from the router. I'm a bit of a Luddite so this may take some contortions. The idea of sitting on the couch and using my phone for a remote is pretty cool. I'll only need to get up to unload and reload (my bladder).
