  1. Gil is correct. The passive is shared by the two drivers. One back chamber, two woofer doors.
  2. You really don't want to crossover the Klipschorn above 400Hz. A 300Hz crossover point should be goal. Don't use the 902 and 511 in a Klipschorn. Look for other drivers and horns.
  3. The seller just told me that a guy from Italy bought the horns and is going to pay $600.00 for shipping. That puts his cost over $1,300.00. People really like this horn.
  4. When I was experimenting with different midrange horns and drivers that's all that I listened to for about one year. I didn't use the tweeter or bass horn. Everyone but me hated the sound. I liked or tolerated it, because it made it a lot easier to hear the differences between the different horns and drivers. It was also easier to measure the frequency response of them. Once you add in the bass horn and tweeter the speaker blossoms like a flower in the morning sun.
  5. Sonny, You didn't upset me. I know non bidders are always telling each other about items on ebay on this Forum. I didn't mean it the way it may have sounded. The guy selling the pair of 311-90 horns lived near my old home town in NY. We had a good talk about a few things. I told him that I have 6 of them and really didn't need his, and if the bidding went over $500.00 that I wouldn't bid. Sure enought they sold for over $700.00. Some 20 years ago He found two pairs of these horns in a dumpster where an auditorium was being torn down.
  6. Now you can't let anybody touch them, or you will have to keep wiping off the finger prints. I can appreciate all the sweat that went into the prep work. JMON, I forgot about sending you those samples.
  7. Fini, I told you before that I would never post that photo of you on this Forum.
  8. Sonny, I thought you were going to buy a pair of these horns? You bought the JBL tweeters from me to get you started. These horns always sell for $600.00 to $900.00 a pair. The bidding should jump up towards the end of the auction. Why does everyone on this Forum always share what they see on ebay? There are a lot of items that I plan to bid on and someone here always has to make more people aware of them. I will bid on the pair. I don't need them, but I can't let them go for such a cheap price. This mod is a true Klipschorn killer. You will never be able to listen to a stock pair of Klipschorns again. If the gathering is in Hope this year, I may bring one of these if Klipsch will provide a stock klipschorn to A/B it to.
  9. .Don't you guys remember all my post on this mod. Do a search. My mains and center use the 311-90 horn, 290-16K midrange driver, and the JBL-2404H tweeter.
  10. This speaker would be a piece of cake to build. If you built a K-Horn, this will be a snap.
  11. I would use 3/4". It's more ridged and easier to work with.
  12. I got about as far as your drawing a few years ago. I drew it out to full scale on a piece of plywood. My drawing was for a 15" woofer. I drew mine before we heard about the Jubilee, and how it uses two 12" woofers. As you can see from your drawing, it's simply a LaScala facing rearward with a longer and more gradual flare rate so it will go lower. I may get back to this one of these days, but I'll go with two 15" woofers instead of the 12s. I know my reply didn't answer your question. I just thought that I would let you know that I share your interest. You may make me go dust off that piece of plywood and start calculating the flare rate again. The first one to go collects $200.00.
  13. Max, I'm not about to go vinyl. I was just curious about your earlier analogy. My two sons were first impressed with the sound steering of this multi- channel format, then they noticed the big sonic improvement. I once told them that this sound is something like how records used to sound. After the younger one asked me what a record was I tried to explain the sonic difference to them and what analog sounds like. I just told them analog had some of the edge and harshness taken out of the CD sound. Kind of like the improvement you heard when I went to better drivers and horns. They understood that. I had to ask your opinion since you related the two formats. I was wondering if I was way off base or not. Like I said it's been a time. Thanks.
  14. Maxg, I havn't listened to records for many years. Before selling my Empire turntable I put on a few records for a spin. The scratches and pops were bad, so I gave my collection to the guy that bought the turntable. I don't remember what records sound like other then what I described above. Are you saying that SACD's come close to the that sound? If so, then I understand why there are still die-hards like you out there. There are a couple of articles in the Sound & Vision magazine this month about SACD and DVD-A. The articles said that there is a new format in town, and that we may see SACD's and DVD-Audio go the way of the Dinosaur.
  15. I had the same problems with the Monster cable wire that Klipsch was using. The wire turned green with oxidation and the tweeters in one pair of my Klipschorns were 3db down compared to another pair. I didn't notice this untill I did an A/B comparison with all my speakers when I was experimenting with networks, drivers, and horns. I havn't heard of anyone having to replace the diaphragms in the K-55 driver. When you check the conections, also check to see if the driver is screwed on tight.
  16. Yea, you should have posted it in the Home Theater section.
  17. I've been saying this for a long tome now. SACD and DVD-Audio on a system with the same full range speakers all around is great. This is one of the reasons that I went to the trouble of putting in a Klipschorn for my center channel. After getting this right, I felt like throwing away all my CD's.
  18. Would it be worth trying bass traps in a room where all the corners have Klipschorns in them?
  19. Sunfire does indeed tell you to treat the surrounds with mink oil. The surrounds arn't rubber, but they look like 1/4" thick rubber. Sunfire says that you can even punch the driver with your fist and probably not hurt it.
  20. I believe that you will be better off using three two channel amps. I used a receiver as a processor to a multi channel McIntosh MC206 amp and then switched to McIntosh MC202 two channel amps. The two channel amps sound a lot better then the Multi channel amp.

Are you thinking about sending some gear air freight? ---------------- Air fright might be a possiblity, or option to check out, but I would probably rent a van and drive. This all depends on where and when this meeting would take place and if there is even an interest do such a thing.

It would rule out being able to fly in. ---------------- Wouldn't be too much trouble to fly in to Little Rock. Distance to Hope is 112 miles from there. There are a number of Forum members in central Arkansas, I'm sure, who would be happy to take some hitch-hikers along. ---------------- When I said that, I was thinking of how to bring one of my modified Klipschorns and maybe another bass horn speaker. I made a similar suggestion last year and it didn't receive any response, so I let it go.
