  1. >>As for a trio band, there was another exceptional Canadian band with three members out of Ontario way back called Triumph.<< I saw these guys on the, IIRC, The Sport of Kings tour. Excellent band. My favorite from them is Allied Forces and one of my favorite songs from any band is Fight the Good Fight. The funny thing about Triumph is no one ever seems to know what I'm talking about when I mention them. It seems like when they faded out of public awareness they faded out of memory as well, at least with all the people I've talked to off-line. They're no Rush, though
  2. I was wondering about the "quality first watt" theory. How does one tell if an amp has a "quality first watt"? Is it a spec issue? Is it something that's easily looked up or do you have to demo and listen for distortion? Are there manufacturers that are known to have this quality? I'm using my system for HT so I want SS amp. I've been planning on picking up a Rotel amp when I get some more cash. Does anyone know if Rotel has a "quality first watt"?
  3. >>How will my 20-39 pci fair with this? Am I going to hurt it?<< Nope, I've run P&P with my 20-39PCi with no problems. It's quite a show. Great disc.
  4. Great story, Trey! Other favorites of mine: Beneath, Between and Behind Rivendell (what can I say, I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan) The Fountain of Lamneth (complete) Tears Xanadu Cygnus X-1 Cygnus X-1 Book II (complete) The Trees La Villa Strangiato The Spirit of Radio Red Barchetta The Camera Eye The Analog Kid (great, great song) I've obviously skipped some of the classics but if I didn't I'd be listing everything! You know, it's kind of sad that I've only seen them once live. I stopped going to concerts when I was about 20 and the only chance I had to see them was on the Power Windows tour.
  5. The first album I ever bought was Moving Pictures. To say I'm a big Rush fan is an understatement. I have all of their albums but primarily listen to pre-Signals. I LOVE the early stuff, even Caress of Steel. I've always considered 2112, Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres to be my favorites with Fly by Night and Moving Pictures very close behind. As for the newer stuff, I occasionally listen to Power Windows, Hold Your Fire and Counterparts. The others don't get a lot of play. A few great songs but as a whole, not as compelling as the older stuff. BTW, I think 'The Camera Eye' from Moving Pictures is simultaneously one of their best and most overlooked songs.
  6. >>Thanks every body. I ordered a svs 20-39pci last night. I am taking everyones word on it. It helps that they have a 45 day trail. I wanted to go bigger but I only had 600. I hope they ship fast because I have the cable ran already.<< You will love the 20-39PCi. I have one and it improved my entire system (see below). It shakes the entire house and blends very, very well with the Forte II's. My HT room is +/- 2000cf with a large opening into another 3000cf. Even with this large amount of space it still fills the room with clean, reference level bass and I've only got the gain at 1/3 on the amp. The SVS is an incredible, amazing product and they deserve the raves they get. SVS is one of those rare products that actually lives up to the hype.
  7. >>I still love my "extended Heritage" speakers and will continue to buy them.<< So, is this the unofficial name of the Chorus/Forte/Quartet line? I've always wondered how to classify my Forte II's. I feel the same way about future Klipsch purchases. If anything ever happens to my Forte II's then I'll just Ebay another pair. Try as I might, I don't care for the Reference line. My RS-3's do a good job, though. >>In my own case, while the Reference series are great and all, I never foresee owning anything but Heritage. In fact, I was disappointed to think that if there is a clearance at Tweeter/SA, I won't benefit from it 'cause there's nothing I want to buy.<< Ditto. I may pick up some of the architectural series if they get rid of them for a good price. I've toyed around with using ceiling installed speakers for the rear center channels because I don't have room for anything else.
  8. Well, it doesn't sound like I'm as old as you but I've been watching since 1979 when a certain young defenseman named Bourque showed up. I was 9 at the time and yes, I too had to change the channel by hand. I still remember being in second grade, Mrs. Downey's class, when someone said their daddy was mad the Bruins didn't have Orr anymore. How sad is that?
  9. >>I've noticed over the past year that Best Buy has been getting better, higher-end product in their stores. << This is absolutely true. My fear is how the speakers will be presented by the rather unknowledgeable sales people at BB along with the setup and equipment used to demo them. Throwing them on a typical BB speaker display (a shelf with the two speakers set 1" apart) is not going to show off Klipsch imaging, clarity, etc. IMO. Now add the 17 year old that doesn't know or care about what he's selling. It's not a pretty picture. Even if Klipsch gets the 'Bose treatment' (an endcap display) it's not a good way to audition speakers. Also, how on earth are SS-1's going to be set up for listening? It's not like a WDST speaker can be properly evaluated when stacked on top of each other or side by side. Hey Klipsch, I know a way you could make it up to your loyal customers. Re-institute a full, non-limited edition line of Heritage. Throw in some Chorus III, Forte III and Academy II and you would have us driving all over the friggin country to get them!
  10. >>nice one klipsch, you just lost alot of people as a customer. If I'd have seen this coming, when I sent in my warranty sheet I wouldn't have put "highly likely" in the "are you considering klipsch for your next purchase" box. Instead it would be a big X right in the "very unlikely". you have sold out to best buy, and you are no better than jbl anymore. fuc# this shi^, I should sell my RF-5's while I still can. I have just lost all respect in them. Anyone up for a weiner roast, I'll supply the lumber Klipsch, you selfish SOB's. suddenly the millions you're already making just isn't enough. please don't take me lightly when I say I will get rid of my current klipsch speakers. Honestly I just can't enjoy them anymore, knowing the damn things are being sold like bose in a cheapo appliance/video game/cd/tv/dvd/audio/video/computer/peice of **** speaker stroe. you can count me out for future products<< Don't you think this is going a bit too far? How can you say you don't enjoy the speakers anymore? Did you buy them for the sound or the cache that comes with owning a 'high-end' speaker? I sure hope it was for the sound. I'm just guessing, but I suspect they sound the same tonight as they did two days ago. I know you're pissed and I can understand why but this turn of events doesn't affect the music coming out of your speakers. If you like the Klipsch sound, buy from Ebay. You won't be giving money to Klipsch LLC, which might be important to you, and you'll still get amazing speakers. If you won't buy them because people wil think you have Best Buy speakers, well, I guess that's your prerogative. I care about the sound (and I'm sure you do too). Please don't mistake my tone, I'm not attacking you. I'm just trying to interject some perspective. I'm disappointed by this decision as much as the next person but my Forte II's still sound phenomenal and that won't change when the Synergy line hits BB.
  11. Hey Bruinsrme, the Bruins just won in OT!
  12. Just a friendly heads-up. We're discussing this over in the general questions section under "unfortunate rumor" http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=31071&sessionID={257A278A-23D8-41FA-81FE-3252A67776CE} Bruinsrme, I'm in the Boston area. What stores did you go in? I don't go into a lot of the high end places for the very reason you stated, they sneer at you if you're not taking out a mortgage to buy their equipment.
  13. >>Just to clarify, Fred is not unrelated, just a distant relative who was unaware of the connection.<< Doh! Sorry Doug. I read the post quickly while I was at work. I should have re-read it before posting. I'll edit it.
  14. >>Also wanted to point out something that I'm sure you all knew already -- Fred Klipsch is not PWK's son. He is a somewhat distant relative who, to the best of my knowledge, knew nothing about the Klipsch product until he read an article about Klipsch in an airline flight magazine and wondered if he was related in any way. (This may be folklore, but it's what I heard.) It's no secret that Fred and Paul were not the best of buddies. Heck, look who still owns the PWK logo -- his wife, not Klipsch LLC. DD<< Actually, I didn't know this. Weird. How did a distant relation get control of the company, especially if PWK didn't get along with him? I hadn't thought of the problems with auditioning the speakers at BB. Poor acoustics coupled with bright, low-end receivers ought to have Synergy speakers flying off the shelves. Brilliant move Klipsch LLC. I'm going to scream the first time I hear a customer at BB say "Wow, these Bose sound so much better than those big Klipsch speakers. They must not be very good."
  15. So it is true. Too bad, but at least it was Klipsch that did the kicking. This really doesn't matter much to me specifically. I get my Klipsch from Ebay. Older is better. The thing that worries me is what this will do to the Klipsch reputation. In the past I'd mention to someone that I had Klipsch and I'd hear 'wow, I heard those were really good speakers'. I'd hate it if in 5 years Klipsch became 'Best Buy Specials'. Ahh, maybe I'm overreacting. Edit: >>As of Tuesday, Klipsch has discontinued its relationships with Magnolia Hi-Fi and the Tweeter Home Entertainment Group and its subsidiaries. Additionally, Klipsch will begin selling a limited line of its award-winning Synergy Series loudspeakers, excluding installed and outdoor models, at Best Buy stores across the country on Memorial Day weekend this May. << The Reference Line will be sold at high-end shops. I wonder which ones in MA will pick up the line?
  16. Well, if this is true then who's going to be the B+M outlet for Klipsch in the areas where Tweeter is the only game in town? I can't imagine Klipsch moving from Tweeter to boutique stores exclusively. They wouldn't move their line to Best Buy, would they? Nah, I can't believe this is true. It doesn't make sense. I suppose Tweeter could have kicked Klipsch to the curb. THAT would be disappointing.
  17. The level of respect is what keeps me posting here, albeit not as much as others. I have no patience for some of the garbage that goes on in other forums. HTF is pretty good also. Heated discussions do occur but they're monitored and shut down pretty quickly if they turn nasty. The amazing thing about the Klipsch BB is it seems to be self-monitored. Yes, the admins are here but they don't jump in nearly as much as in other places. It's nice to know that my fellow Klipsch owners know what goes beyond acceptable and hold that line.
  18. Thanks guys, good to know I'm not completely alone. I think I'll keep an eye out for Forte II parts. It can't hurt.
  19. I was just reading a thread in updating older speakers concerning a torn Forte II passive radiator. Without going into the details, the person was told by the parts department at Klipsch that they no longer have the PR's for Forte II's. Seeing as I have a pair of Forte II's and plan to get a second pair for rear surrounds, I was more than a bit interested about the lack of PR replacements. I have a three year old son and plan to have another kid. I live in fear of the day when either Adam or that future child puts a toy through the PR. This isn't even going into potential mechanical failure of any driver or XO. Am I nuts to consider picking up a spare part for each driver, PR, XO? I would check to see what's still available from Klipsch before monitoring Ebay but in essence I'd be buying an additional pair of Forte II without the cabinets. It sounds crazy but I hate the thought of needing a part in the future and it not being available. So, am I the only one here that's this paranoid?
  20. Man, it's funny seeing all of your names over there! I may jump in but I have a feeling I wouldn't keep my composure. I can't stand people who trash Klipsch because it's trendy to do so. BTW, I thought AVS was the land of the Swan Divas? Now it's Rockets? Do they just jump on the latest fad in speakers? I don't post over there, I'm an HTF'r. EDIT: I guess the Rockets were once Swan Divas, or at least they were somehow affiliated.
  21. sktrim, sorry to take so long to get back to you you've got mail....
  22. This is all from memory so bear with me... There was a number of big threads about this topic over on www.hometheaterforum.com a while back. Outlaw worked with a far east manufacturer to design the 950. The manufacturer had the right to use the platform of the 950 to OEM for other companies. The Atlantic Technology and Sherbourn units are clones of the 950. Supposedly there was an upgrade in the quality of the internal components for each. This is partially to blame for the large price increase. The other is due to B+M distribution for those companies vs. the online sales of Outlaw. BTW, one of the founders of Outlaw is Peter Tribeman. He's the president of Atlantic Technology. It was discovered, sourced, and posted in one of those threads at HTF.
  23. I just replaced my black KV-3 (near mint condition) with an Academy. I've got the original box and manual. I was planning on Ebaying the speaker but if you want it then we could talk. Email me if you're interested. BTW, I used the KV-3 with my KG-4's for a while and it's a fantastic match.
  24. FabFrankie beat me to the punch. He's correct about the consumer/pro amp mismatch. This is what the box fixes. As for the roll off, it's got to be room harmonics. I've only got a 20-39PCi and there is zero drop off at 55hz. Around 65 I get a quick drop but then it shoots right back up (doing LFE sweeps with the RS SPL meter). Your twin Ultras should blow my setup away so I'm sure something isn't right. BTW, you should run the speakers as small. It took me awhile to convince myself this was the right thing to do with the mains but it made a big difference.
  25. I was originally going to buy a Salamander rack but I would have needed two S40's with sides and doors to house everything and allow for future components. Well over a grand and not worth it IMO. So, I finally put my architecture education to good use and designed my own. I should start building it in the next month or so. It's 6' tall, completely adjustable, and looks like an armoire. I'm building it in oak and matching the finish to my oiled oak Forte II's.
