  1. Glad that your daughter is doing better. TH- Hows about some reports on that BB??? Dying to hear about it. looking at selling my CWs and buying a set of belles that have been modded into the statosphere. Everything new- wood horns- jbl drivers- ALK jrs- total cosmetic upgrades-refirb. One listener thought they were a bit shrill on the high end- For my limited 2 ch listening and constant HT surround speaker intended use- they would be wonderful. Waiting on the present owner to decide on letting them go. Wife is going to her supper club tonite so the kid and are heading to the range after work today. Maybe stop off on the way home for a burger and some draft. Cheers to everybody
  2. Klipsch Heritage- 2"wood horns-ALK crossovers- JBL drivers- Now you are listening to distortoin free music- CRANK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best of both worlds
  3. I have/had a small fortune tied up in monster wires and interconnects. I drank the kool aid and bought off on the ads before I knew better. I have had several failures connected with monster interconnects( ends fell the &&^^ off) Power strip was traced to be the source of a ground loop. I have never had an out right problem with monster speaker wire so if you are running a short distance it will most likely be ok. The Monster is junk with fancy outer surfaces and tiny little wires inside. The monoprice or Blue Jean are both high quality products at a fair price. I will replace all of my HT speaker cables with the same Belden 12 ga sold by Blue Jean. Monoprice is the equiv. Good stuff. I am down to several sets of Monster interconnects. I cant lose them fast enough.
  4. makers is an excellent mixing burbon- great with mineral water or coke. I typically makers -black jack - knob creek- or Gentleman jack. Whatever is on sale at that price point. Makers is my most popular customer Christmas giveaway. For the scotch drinkers either Glenmorangie or balvinie Doublewood. Best bang for the buck
  5. That is definitely not cool- not telling you-WT??????? I would be asking some questions. laying off the hard stuff for a couple of days- get my taste buds back in sync after the mega scotch ruined me. pilsner urquel and modelo ***** for a few days
  6. USNRET- yep- bout half the bottle in addition to the scotch. You were not there so somebody had to test it. I did save you the second half[D] However- I did not win the drinking contest- Did not even finish on the podium[] I will make sure that there is a full bottle next time we meet up.
  7. I have always wanted a set of belles- this may be my 'excuse".[6]
  8. Mark- I would argee with you in 90% of the cases- tiny speakers- the difference being something like Hell freezes over- Orbison Black and white- the transformer DVDs- some loud action movies. I kept hearing from the klipsch tech people that the rears and sided were going to get more involvement in the new DVDs. Honestly- I have not seen it. I realize that for most applications-this is way overkill. As for the theaters I would argue that my stuff sounds better than most that I have heard locally. I come home disapointed with the sound most of the time. The last one I saw was all subwoofers- could not half here the voices- Awful. I have not sought out the better I max and Klipsch theatres to put things into perspective. I would also argue that theatres have the advantage of perfect sound enviornments and supporting electronics where the smaller more numerous speakers are in their element. I have tried the reference stuff mounted high on the side walls- the big speakers work better for my mess of a listening room- safes- wine racks- tool cabinets- office desk-bookshelves- ect. Sure - it is like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly but in my case- it works I will switch to the Belles if they become available.
  9. At the lower levels I prefer the Balvinne and the Lagavulen. In the midrange I like the non chill filtered Coila. As for the expensive stuff- this one kicks @ss. There are plenty of fine scotches around. These are just the ones I happen to prefer. As my drinking progressed I found the burbons and blended canadian whiskeys to be too sweet for me unless mixed. The peatey-smoky - iodine taste of Scotch appeals to me particular with cigars, I have however included sour mash with mixers in my choices due to the soaring prices of good scotch, I can understand why some people dont like it.
  10. In my reference days I came to the conclusion that the RC 64 may just be the best center on the planet for anything near a reasonable amount of money. It is one of the best speakers in the entire klipsch lineup. Find a good deal and buy it.Make adjustments in other areas until you can upgrade to match it. I ran mine with RF 3s for several months. Had to monkey with the HT reciever for a couple of days but No problem. made me sick to sell it when it no longer matched my heritage speakers. Buy it now before you change your mind. You will not be sorry. My 2 cents worth
  11. Sorry Davis- Forget everything[ I said about the VRDs over the P cats. After looking at the link- I think you need both of them.I thought I was an audiosick individual but you have me beat by miles [Y]
  12. All cubans- Por larenaga petit corona- Cohiba siglo 6- Cuaba figarado 6 " large ring ga-Partagas series D # 4 robusto German market selection. This was a particulary good Siglo 6 from Australia- won the day Yes Bob is indeed a classy host and a stand up guy. Now- my Balvinnie Doublewood tastes like the medicine my mother made me take when I was a kid- no more Scotch for a while until my palate recovers. I looked on the net at prices and got sick. I dont see any in my future they also make a 30 year which is 250.00........for a MINI bottle!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Bob- Cigarbum- was generous enough to break out a truly world class bottle of scotch for thi occasion. I have been involved in the wine industry on a wholesale level for a number of years. During this time I have been fortunate to sample and evaluate many fine scotches. I can say without any reservation that the 25 year old Macallam malt trumps anything that I have tried to date. The cork wnet into a complete melt down upon opening- we attempted to use a corkscrew to rescue the situation to no avail. SO- we were forced to drink the whole bottle.. Oh DAM !!!!!!!!!!!!. Yes there is a god[] All BS aside- this is the smoothest- most refined- most totally complex scotch that you will ever pour into a glass. The stuff has no burn - no rough edges- nothing of the bad qualities of less expensive scotch. the start has tons of honey and iodine on the palate and finishes to a wonderful mix and a long finish of 45 seconds or more on the rear palate- but no burn -no overpowering singular flavor. On the bad side my other scotches now taste like barnyard runoff. I t will be a long time before I will be able to pour any of mine. I feel guilty about the amount that I personally consumed over a 2 day period. Thanks again BOB for a wonderful expierence of drinking my fill of this great classic malt.
  14. Yeah we are way past splitting hairs- that was obviuos when the tset stuff came out of the case this weekend. I am thing that a set of moded Belles and the Indsut LS that I got form you- modded to match down the road would match anything up fromt including DBBS of Jubs. BTW- the DBBs are the best speakers that I have neard to date which makes the Jubs that much more of a deadly needle drug audio expierment that I will defer to a later date with expanded finances. Dont drive it or listen to it if you cant buy it. 3 jubs are 18 large right? not now- maybe later- I have no doubt that they are otherworldly. In the meantime I will most likely jump on thses Belles if the chance presents itself.
  15. It was my understanding acccording to the klipsch tech people that RS speakers are not to be used in a 7.1 enviornment. The rb61 is an excelent side or rear speaker in a 7.1 enviornment as is the RB81. Buy the biggest center that you can possible afford. Rc 62 is nice- rc64 is phenominal- upgrade proof down the road as long as you use reference. good luck with the system
  16. Options 1-Blue Jean cable # 12 ga cut and made to order. 2- Do some homework- act like you are a profesional contractor- buy the Belden equivalent of the blue jean cable in a 1000 ft roll for a song at a wholesale house off the internet or local- keep the extra for later or sell it to a buddy to do another system-this is my choice or 3- monoprice # 12 Ga- same stuff as BJ- excellent value. Personally I love audioquest but not for this application.
  17. This is just a pipe dream at this point. If certain events take place I may have shot at a highly modded Belles to match up with my modded K horn fronts. My center Lascala is getting the wood horn /crossover/tweeter upgrade- that is a done deal. I am agonizing over selling my beloved CWs and getting this modded pair of Belles- I dont know all of the stuff but I know that this pair has 1" wood horns-ALK jr crossovers- tweeter upgrades- huge JBL drivers--sounds great in 2 ch applicatioin. My CWs do a great job - they are box stock 1984 examples . My side surrounds in the 7.1 setup do not carry much bass- mostly mids and highs- so I am not losing out on the CW bass advantage for this app. These particular Belles have highs/mids like nobody's business These would be powered by a B&K Ex 4420 outboard-200WPC. I intend to mod the rear LS as well at some point Would I be better off to freshen up the CWs witn modern stuff or make the switch for about 700-900 dollars difference? I am considering this based on possible opportunity to purchase rather than the proper sequence of upgrades. I hate to get rid of my CWs but you cant keep the all. They will have to go if this thing happens What do you think?? TIA for comments
  18. The good news is that you can get a nice set for around 2 grand or sometimes even less which makes no sense considering the product. Now the bad news- they are semi- hard to find. They sell immediately when offered. I put a WTB ad on the forum 60 dyas before I was going to have the cash from a comission check. I got a hit from a forum member who wanted a new set with more bells and whistles. People on this forum ane EXTREMELY GOOD about helping other members find stuff. In my year long off and on search for a used example I saw a total of 4 for sale. Some were package deals requiring the purchase of other components whid did not work because I - like you already had a JM pre. My advice- run a want ad on the forum- be prepared to pay at the top of the used price range- around 2 grand for a minty unit. There is somebody out that wants a new or different AMP that will be willing to sell. There are very few dirtbags here so your risk factor is low. I have never had a bad expierence with a seller in 10k of purchases on the garage.. You could also contact Craig directly to see about a new pair- a little over 3k the last time I looked. There may be a Klipsch forum discount. The VRD was built specifically for the klipsch heritage speaker line. You already got the preamp for it. You could hold out for a set of P cats but the chances of finding a set is somewhere between slim and none
  19. Yeah definitely thanks to Teresa- I dont know how she put up with all of us and the 10 thousand empty beer cans/bottles. I- definitely being the novice of the group learned more in 2 days than in the last 2 years since I got back into this addiction. Make no mistake about it - there are some certified top of the line experts on this forum that are a wealth of knowledge. We are all extremely fortunate to have this resource at hand to gain knowledge in our search for the perfect sound. That became apparent to me this weekend. Testing proved that Bob's gear is darn near perfect. The 25 year old scotch was nothing short of phenominal- Food was excellent.
  20. If there was sex I missed out-I was out on the deck smoking cigars and drinking scotch for most of the weekend. You may want to check your source for the juicy details. Like Sgt Schultz in Hogan's heros- he old TV show- I saw NOTHING- I know NOTHING.
  21. Wow- That is a rare jewel. You are very lucky to have them. I believe the pair I saw for sale was something like 4 grand or more and lasted less than a day.One person at the Ga gathering this week end had heard a pair or maybe even owned them- can't remember exactly-alcohol-. There was quite a bit of discussion concerning them The only downside was price and availability.I looked around for a pair early on after I bought my P2.. Not one response except for jokes. I woulg hazard a guess they they are among the toughest to buy amps on the planet.Wonder how many sets were made? If Mark made them then they must be outstanding. I would love to hear a pair. Cigarbum also looked for a pair a while back- also gave up and bought VRDs
  22. i have seen a grand total of 1 set of P cats for sale in the last 18 months . I would go straight th the VRDs without question or 2nd thought. Easy decision. You will love the BB.
  23. Ga gathering was a blast. Plenty of everything. Some of these guys are freaking scientists when it comes to evaluating and measuring equipment. Found out quickly just how much that I did not know about audio gear. The 25 year old Macalan scotch was unbelievable.Bob's DBBs and Modded K horns sounded great as expected. back to the hellish place called work tomorrow Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Great weekend- Thanks to Bob for his gracious hospitality. Thanks to the experts for putting up with my rookie questions. Mike- Sorry you could not make it. Hopefully the next time.
