  1. One of the guys at work is putting together a new HT -maybe -also 2 ch system. He has a ton of music that he has bought/downloaded onto his computer. He is looking at a high end Sony6400ES reciever with streaming capabilities as a possible choice- most likely klipsch reference speakers oi a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. His concern is that this music will not be of acceptable audio quality for what he is trying to achieve. His goal is to achieve complete compatability with his PC system/ ht receiver in terms of music and video without losing anything in terms of quality. Also he wants complete on screeen capability to select from his computer music library. I have no knowledge in this area whatsoever. Any comments or suggestions/?? Thanks in advance.
  2. Yes- I have several s x s doubles- win 21s and 23s. Numerous o/u s browinigs and Perazzis.A load of model 70s including many rare calibers.Old Colts/ smiths. New kimbers and most of the HKs. Styer rifles with swarovski glass. Assorted benellis- AR15s and assorted browning 22s. Really bad habit- worse than audio stuff.
  3. That is the one we listened to.
  4. Yes- I found out yesterday that the factory is now shipping them with the Electro tubes as stock. I would suspect that the unit I listened to Friday was bone stock prior to the electro tubes. I will check the box of extra tubes that I can use and see if the 5751s are in the mix. I have head enough good to go out and buy them. With the jazz horn CDs or guitar rock selections- I did prefer the Jolida- The blusey stuff with soft voices- I preferred the mac. But they are sooooo close that it is a Bud lite/Miller lite or a BMW/MB comparison. One person is going to prefer one over the other- but results would differ. I am thrilled to have the jolida on the way but would also love to own the mac. However in my opinion- the mac is way overpriced. lots of cool stuff can be had for that kind of $$$$.
  5. I asked the dealer that I bought it from about it and he said NO. Red box and XRCDs only. but.. I was at Cigarbums house Friday and he played an SACD on his identical Jolida. Then he took out his papers and he had an review from somebody that stated that the unit is SACD compatible. When I asked the dealer about this he said that this must have been a "single layer SACD but most of them were multi layered and would not work" So WT# ?????? I was confident that someone here owned one and had addressed the issue. I will call the factory and setle this once and for all(unless I get voice mail or an idiot-likely scenario these days) Pat- You have some really nice stuff- how do you like the Peach?---lurking.
  6. Mudcrutch- Tom Petty- CD- several kiler tracks- no bad ones
  7. Hi Mike- no problem-I guess the jolida makes the DAC a moot point at present. Sorry that you could not make it . Lots of good tunes- cigars and a great sip of scotch. If you could mail me whatever original paperwork you have on the Mac- I would appreciate it. Cb still wants to have a get together. Let's talk about it. Look foward to talking to you about the Tercel- Peach- turntable stuff. Also I bought one of the meters so that base is covered.
  8. I hesitate to be the bearer of bad news but I would run from any mcintosh MX products at present. There have been video issues with the 120 and I know of at least one dealer who has sent his back fpr good after numerous problems. I was looking at a used MX 120 and I was quietly waved away from it by a dealer friend. I am a MAC/klipsch junkie and I had my heart set on a used MX 120. Do your own research but I would do some serious asking around before jumping on that program. I spent all day friday drooling over a 275 tube model owned by another forum member. I think that the other Mac products are the best stufff out there. I had a loaner set of Rf 83s for a day and I tried them with several power sources(including an older mac) running as pre outs from my Sony ES HT. I just sold my RC64 as part of a heritage change over. This a great combination-RF83/RC64 and they definitely respond to lots of power. I would jump all over any good deals on any mac amps if I had a need.If I could afford I would have mac power amps running all my HT stuff. Thanks for steering me toward the RSW-15 early on. I finally found one and I love it.
  9. OK - The system is complete- I spend a ton of time shopping. Roughly 3000 miles of wheel time picking up components. Came in way under budget. TOTAL COST- INCLUDING TV- RECEIVER-1450 WATTS OF SEPARATE AMPLIFIERS-SPEAKERS- 7775.00- not counting power strips- wires- connectors- TV brackets- racks- Direct TV stuff-gas- Ect- Ect I have recovered 1200.00 from the sale of Reference components- prospects for the remaining 700.00 worth of items- so after I sell out I should have a net upgrade cost of 5875.00 Not to go on about the results but I will put this system up against pretty much anything except for Jubilees which I have not heard. These are older examples of top of the line speakers and amps. New- recently discontinued flagship- Receiver and current blue ray player If you think that a killer Heritage HT system is out of reach- you may want to re-think that conclusion. Al of these speakers came from other forum members. The used amps came from e-bay members with extensive positive feedback. Food for thought-(and trouble). Front- K horns- Center- Lascala- surround-Cornwalls-Rears industrial Lascalas-Sub- RSW-15 Receiver-Sony DA4300ES-Front/center amp-Carver 753-3 channel- Surround amp HK870- Rear amp B&K 4420 Sony 550 Bluray DVD- Panny 50" 780 P plasma Footnote- The k horns are also used in a separate 2 channel system using a MAC 2105/C34V amp/preamp- cost 1200.00- result - amazing for pennies spent.
  10. Davisindy- The Cornwalls are KILLER surrrounds. They dont take up much space and they sound phenomonial- 700.00 for a decent pair. You can also play with the large setting on your Ht reciever with their bass response.I highly reccomend them.
  11. Thanks- good advice-except that I am Klipschsick. JK- I am leaving it alone. The RC 64 was gone the second that I mentioned looking for a lascala center. Waiting list. People sending me links to Cl with lascallas so they could get a shot at buying it. Imagine that!!!! The new owner will be very happy. Killer center.
  12. Having completed my Heritage Ht setup- I packed my RC 64 up today to ship to it's new owner -another Fourm member. I am sure he will he thrilled with this wonderful piece of equipment. I played all kinds of mind games trying to think of a place to use it or maybe keeping it for a future system in another room. Not going to happen. This is one of the very best pieces of Audio equipment that I have ever owned- period. I have used it with a number of different front speakers during the last 2 months of madness of switching and swapping stuff. Rf-3s- Fr83s -K horns- Cornwalls- and industrial Lascalas. It sounded fantastic with the reference stuff. It sounded great with the Cornwalls. It was acceptable with the k horns and the lascalas- not the correct Heritage choice but certainly not bad at all. Particulary if space for a heritage center is an issue. I would urge anyone buying any mid-high end Refrence system to go straight to this choice. It is totally upgrade proof unless your are going Heritage. It is reason enough by itself to choose klipsch over another brand. It is that good.It has been the one speaker that I could count to sound good regardless of program material. If you are thinking about dropping down a notch- skip a few 6 packs or a few meals out and buy this center. It is without in a class by itself with no equal at anthing close to this price point. My 2 cents worth. No disrespect meant toward any other center in the klipsch line. I will miss it.
  13. The lascala center is Now. Hooked up to the 3 channel Carver 250 WPC A753. I popped in my Eagles- Hell Freezes Over - -DVD and OMG!!!!! The system was ridiculious before... even with the RC 64 horn mismatch..... but now with the center lascalla matching up with the k horn fronts...OMG!!!!!!! So now I have 7 heritage speakers driven by 1450 watts of sepatate amp power and a RWS -15 sub in a 14 x 25 room. Overkill???? Just maybe. I really did not expect this much difference from the lascala center but I was wrong. This is exactly what I envisioned and hoped for when I started this crazy project. No floor noise- No distortion that I can hear- No dead spots in the room- No nothing. The speakers absorb and thrive on all of this power through the HT reveiver( pre out)- The louder the volume -the better it sounds. The sounds are coming form all areas of the room and it is difficult to detect which speaker is doing what. I had feared that I would miss the helicopters flying over and the bullets zinging across the room that I had with my reference system- but guess what-- they are there!!! Everybody is prejudiced toward their stuff and what they like/have.. but quire honestly.. I have never heard an HT system that sounded any better than this one..regardless of price. The downside is .. I am like the dog that has caught the car that he was chasing.. what do you do now??? I could maybe find some Mac/Sunfire 7 cnannel 300 WPC monstrosity where all the amp sources were the same??? Would it make any difference that i could hear?? I doubt it.I think that this system is a the point of diminishing returns where you have to spend huge amounts of cash to make any difference.. On to the next challenge of bringing my 2 channel stuff up to par.
  14. Chrarlotte NC- A friend of mine has a bunch of old Linn and Naim stuff. He is over there all of the time doing something. He is the go to guy around here for stuff that nobody else will touch. Iwas kicking around the possibility of several amps on the garage. He had knowledge of the Viva and was able to add to the conversation. I have the room torn apart today installing some Lascalas, As soon as I get this mess organized i will find his number and send it to you.
  15. Larry- what amp in the Avatar Pic?? I listemed to a Mac 275/ mac c29 SS pre today at length. jolida and mac CD players/ Cornwalls- To me it sounds right on par/better with the 220/275 combo at the mac store.- (New mac Cd and b&Ws- speakers being a negative) So go figure. We ran all types of music at all different volumes. I will reserve judgement until I can check some of the OTL and specailty tube setups. My thinking is to retain my SS setup-MAc stuff- for CDs and go all tubes for TT/vinyl and switch banana plugs back and forth between- using the the k horns for both. Any second or third opinions on the Vivva or the Quads mentioned earlier?? There is a local guy in town that can allegedly work on anything inculding the obsure tube stuff. He comes highly reccomended.
  16. Question- is the jolida compable with SACD??????- seems to be some difference of opinion on this.
  17. Bitten hard buy the BUG-- ya think??? If I could afford a flyswatter at this point I would squash the son of a &^&&. Avatar?? maybe a picture of the poorhouse located next to the divorce lawyer's office- maybe just a pic of a frying pan- or guy with a black eye getting chased by a mad woman trying to choke him with audioquest spaeker cables- still trying to decide I am hiding in the man cave waiting on the lady to go to bed so I can sneak the 2nd pair of Lascallas in the door that I bought today. Just pulled into the driveway from Cigarbum's place. Plus I used her Tahoe to go pick them up leaving her to bum a ride home from work. I rank somewhere between Osama bin laden and toxic shock syndrone on the s&^& list right about now. If she shoots me you guys can fight over my stuff. This jolida came from a dealer in Fla. It is NIB with a warranty. I can get black for an extra 50 bucks. It is "upgraded "???with "electro harmonic tubes" whatever that is. I know NOTHING about "tubes-" unless they are choke tubes in a shotgun. I have aceess to some "loaner" tubes to try when the unit arrives. I realy needed sometrhing other than my blue ray to play CDs and I felt that this was too good to pass up for the $$$$. this was an Audiogon acution. 745 was the reserve. i spent the afternoon listening to a box stock Jolida head to head against a 4000.00 Mac playing alternating CDs. TheJolida was just M A Y B E a touch brighter/ harsher than the Mac. But the 2 were awfully close. IMHO the Jolida is a no brainer in terms of value. Thanks for the feedback
  18. Just bought a jolida 100 on audiogon- 745.00 NIB + ship with tube upgrades- how did I do???????????? My old lady is gonna kick my @ss
  19. Picking up the last piece of the puzzle tomorrow at Cigarbums place. At LAST I am finished buying speakers Picking up a pair of Lascalas to get one for a center. Anybody need a lascalla for a center channel..please......?????? I am finished now...really I am... honest. I told you I could quit any time............ I do not have a problem
  20. I wish I had seen this thread earlier. My hard core technical knowledge as far as nomenclature- cause and effect is lacking. But I have switched- swapped- and changed HT recievers-and amps(solid state) like crazy since Nov of 08 and I have learned a ton during my journey. I presently have a Sony flagship ES receiver rated at 7 x 100WPC . I had a Denon rated above this 120 or 130 WPC and a Marantz on loan for possible buy. I have had 2 reference speakers hooked up Rf3s and RF83s. 3 heritage speakers hooked up fronts- k horns (present)- Lascalas( now as rears) and Cornwalls(now as surrounds) KV-2 and RC64 reference centers- to be changed out for a Lascala over the weekend. I have tried and owned a mixture of Carver, B&K, and HK separates which i am presently using with my heritage stuff. Here is my 2 cents worth- IMHO- you cannot overpower a HT system-Thr reference stuff- mid and high end- yields great results from high powerd separates. One of the biggets OMG moments in my listening was hooking up my carver 250 WPC 3 channel to my RC64 (sold)and My Rf3s. It was like a blast of steriods had been injected into the system. If you own a mid/high end reference system- buy yourself some big power amps.My amp stuff is older examples of high end stuff off e-bay. I would not hesitate to go for Emotiva or other new models as well. I have heard some ridiculious HT setups in terms of new high end $$$ power amps but I personally would rather spend my extra dollars on a separate 2 channel setup as the 2 channel mode of playing music through an Ht receiver is less than desirable-IMHO. The dolby digital technology of the newer Ht receiver dose some prettty amazing things as far as allocating power and setting up your system to your room and the extra power is gold. Ht receiver amplifiers just dont cut it. The Klipsch stuff is just better that the current HT recievers and deserves better. My ultimate ht power amp for my Ht setup would be a 7 channel carver or Mcintosh in the 250-300 WPC range My biggest surprise in this whole deal was the HT setup with the big power separates 250WPC-fronts and centers- 200 WPC rears- 150 WPC sides using K horns-Lascalas and Cornwalls. I was convinced(before hand) that the amps were way too much for these highly efficent heritage speakers which will run you out of town in 2 channel mode with the volume barely cracked with 2 channel specific amp/preamp equipment- the exception being the low powered tubes. It took some tweaking but the HT receiver- running pre outs into the amps just seems to suck up all this ton of power- 1450watts- and distribute it to the speakers in a great fashion. I can turn the volume up well into the middle/mid high range- on my Ht receiver and the volume is not excessive. The room fills with sound and movie effects. The wow factor is off the charts. I had already planned to change these high powered amps for something more sensible when I bought the heritage stuff. After listening- NO WAY- I am keeping this stuff for HT and spendng my cash for a cool tube setup in a stand alone 2 channel setup. I will have to say in fairness that the 100 wpc HT reciever does work well by itself with the Heritage stuff. But still much better with the separates.
  21. DId not know that GM made a portwood . has to be good with that label. looking for a new scotch to try. I try to keep an assortment of different tastes- peat- port -caramel. I tried some Compass box- the peat monster??? my palate was shot to hell form smoking a Partagas lustitania so i really did not get a good read on it. Everybody else liked it.
  22. Nobody wins- i will not spoil the ending LMAO - you guys are too much
  23. I had a non warranty issue with a loose wire on an RSW-15 sub last week. The Tech support people talked me through tearing the monster apart and fixing the problem myself on the phone without having to dismantle the amp and control panel and send them back. How cool is that????? People should consider these aspects before they buy the latest trendy component from some company which may not be there in 3-4 years. You are worring me now as I have a B&K amp myself running my Lascalas-Please let us know how that turns out.
  24. he!! yes we got it and i t sucks-- got a pair of Lascallas in ga and i cant drive down to get them until this cra* blows outa here. My son got stuck driving back from Atlanta ga to Boone NC susday and had to spend the night in Greenville SC- people were trapped in their cars on I-85 for hours when they closed the interstate. I am ready for spring. To he!! with snow.- Char NC
  25. I am sitting back (after a few drinks admittedly) and I am watching this on direct TV- not blue ray- and man this is a bitchin sound track!!!!!!!! I am sitting back in the rear of the room- next to the computer- close to the Lascalas and the k horns are screaming and the cornwall surrounds are doing their thing - the RSW-15 is rattling the sheetrock-and you know what???? This is a great sound track and maybe a good demo to buy on blue ray to show off the system. Anybody got this on blueray??? Transformer is the standard but this is not far off.
