  1. Chili- some kind of 6 lb premium Berkely line. Last second surges at the dock broke the line- Line is 2 seasons old. will be replaced before next time. look on your Ocean map and see if you see Ennis rock or Ennis reef. Friend of mine died from cancer. A bunch of money was raised in his honor and a bagre was sunk in his honor. Has to be in your area. We fished of Lockwood Folly nearly every weekend when he was alive in his 24 ft Albermarle. We would go out 40-60 miles- leave at Dawn- bring back tons of fish- tuna- dolphin- ect. Sell them to the ice house guy at Holden Beach. I really miss that. Too hot to fish here . Sipping on a screw driver mixed with triple filtered Smirnoff- bought it real cheap- 15.00 - not bad for the money. Getting ready to spin some vinyl and CDs on the tubes Cheers gentlemen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. My best friend- going through a bad divorce- Still everything to live for- Houses at the beach and the mountains- new Ruff porsche-every toy you could possibly immagine- Muiti millionare- Great guy.The guy who turned me onto Klipsch. We shared a tract of land for hunting/fishing/family outings - ect. We were supposed to meet Friday afternoon. Spoke to him that morning- we made our final plans as to what to bring food-wine. That was at 8:00 on Friday morning. His voice sounded strange and distant. At 10:00 he put a 40 cal Glock 23 in his mouth and pulled the trigger. I got a call at 1:00 in the afternoon from a mutual friend. I was involved in a gut wrenching process of selling off his personal effects and gun/wine stuff. I dont understand suicide. It is a cowards way out. I am crushed to this day with this loss.Every time I pick up a shotgun or a fishing rod I think about him with the same question- WTF??????????????????????????? Why???????????????????????????????????? If I see him in the next world I will slap the s--t out of him for what he did to his many close friends. Sorry for the rant
  3. Bruce- gotta tell you- I totally enjoyed the back and forth conversations and analysis on the OT subjects- Guns and the state of present conditions. Also your analysis of Avitar. I left with a smile on my face after listening to you. My comments as to your present system. You have the BB and the jolida I am not familiar with the 120 w monos to know itf they are the right component. VRDs are a no brainer if they fit into your plan. I know that a set of modded K horns with the 2" treatment would fix things or the double BBs. My system is a mirrior immage of the downstairs K horn system with the upstairs electronic components- top section built with Bobs leftovers.I also have cornwalls which please me when I pull them out from surround systems and play some old blues on the Peach/VRDs. I think I know where you want to go and a large pair of Hertiage speakers be it Jubs- Modded K horns- or some DBBs like Bobs is your ultimate fix. I have been down this road for the last 18 months and ended up finding that advice from the senior forum members was correct. My 2 cents worth. Best of luck in your quest. Look foward to seeing you next year.
  4. Thanks Mike- will def pass this along as he may well wanted a modded unit. This is really funny as he already had another unit picked out. The Jolida blew him away. I believe the poor guy c---ped his pants when he heard the system. He is accostomed the British solid state neutral clinical type of sound rather than the warm intoxicating character of the tubes. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
  5. It was awfull- I came home smelling of cigar smoke- My head was pounding from a mixture of adult beverages-Everybody knew more about the gear than I did-A bear chased me when I tried to take a leak in the bushes. Somebody poured moonshine down my throat while I was passed out on the couch. I have permanent hearing loss from a bunch of loud music. Does that sound like fun?????? Ok- JK- when is the next one-- Next week would be nice[] Hoping for a report concerning ongoing projects
  6. Tubes will be rolled on all said components in July(next Comm Check) Jolida will be first on the list
  7. A cigar shop buddy of mine came over to the house today for the first time. He has Mirage speakers-Aragon pre/power amps-a rotel CD player which is giving trouble. He WAS looking to replace it with a 2500.00 player(couuld not remember the brand). He recently ordered a VPI scout turntable. I told him he should give the Jolida a listen before making the purchase. He is or should I say was not a K horn person. He has many friends with high end systems with Krell stuff and other ultra high end brands. I started off with Mark Knoffler Golden Heart- nice average quality redbook CD. Then I put on a Roy Orbison Gold Masterdisc- Greatest hits. After the first track he looked me with this bewilldered look and said- "I have heard that song a 1000 times- one of my favorites-but I have never heard it sound like this- this is like being in a studio". The guy is a retired engineer and he is all over the Jolida like white on rice. So then we put on the same record on Vinyl. I preferred the vinyl- He preferred the Jollida CD playback. H ewas giving all of the credit to the Jolida nad the k horn mods. Honestly- I think he is overlooking the VRDs and the Peach as a critical part of the total package. He was also freaking out over the modded K horns. We are going to haul my Jolida to his house and have a listen on his stuff. I am 99% sure he will have one on order very soon. I any case it was fun as always showing this system to an unsuspecting victim.
  8. I was really amazed by the Mac 250s- very warm and tube-like. Typical of the early Mac SS amps- love them I bought the leftovers from Bobs k horn project. My horns sound almost identical to his. I have not closed my bass bins in yet- they sound a little different but I have really good corners and I cant decide to do it or not. We ran the two top sections side by side. I have slightly different JBL drivers- mine are 4420s. We could hear little or no difference in the top sections. The horns- crossovers and tweeters are the same. This 2 " wood horn mod is truly an OMG difference over the stock stuff. I highly reccomend it to anybody who is considering it. Bob's korns and DBBS blew everybody away.
  9. For the low and slow cooking- keep your eyes open at garage sales and flea makkets- the Kamato is an ugly little terracota colored cooker that looks like an egg on metal legs- lots of time the hinges for the top are rusted- easily fixed wit a can of WD 40/ Do make sure that the inner ceramic liner is not broken. These will cook a boston butt in 3-4 hours with a small handful of chunk charoal- a few shredded naespapers and a few starter wood strips- oak kindling works well. I have seen these for 50 bucks at yardsales but I already have one. they work great.
  10. I do 325degrees for 2 hours- in a tin foil lined roaster pan seasoned with salt pepper garlic and vinegar-take out at 2 hours- remove all the grease - fat and nasty stuff- cover with sauce - cook for another hour - turn off oven - let sit for 30 mins. I had these last night and they were great- baby backs. It is fast and easy with little or no cleanup. the ribs are falling apart when finished- I use this recipie at least once a week.. nearly perfect. Should I expierment with longer cook times and reduce the temp to 250-275-300?
  11. + one on the real wood chunk vs the bricks- there is a big difference IMHO
  12. I use no pesticides on my yard- spot spray with round up or weed be gone to kill the crabgrass and dandelions. I have grasshoppers- bees- wasps- yellowjackets- flies-misquitos- you name it I dont even buy bait sometime when I go to the lake- catch those big green grasshoppers in the long grass beside the lake- bass love them you want insects and bugs-- we got em- send me your address- i will send you all you want.
  13. Had some really great drinks last hight- heradura gold tequlia- triple sec and tonic water - loaded with ice and chunks of fresh lime. Drank over ice rather than frozen- did not fell like cleaning up the mess from frozen drinks last night. They were very tasty. I have been too busy this week to smoke a cigar- maybe tonite
  14. For smoking /slow cooking Boston Buts and turkeys the kamato or the Green egg kicks @ss. I bought a used kamato form a buddy for 150.00. I see them cheap at yard sales- people upgrading to Green eggs. I love my webbers and use them all of the time- but - for smoking applications- nothing holds a candle to the kamato or the green egg IMHO.
  15. I have weber gas and charcoal. I have switched from the gas to the top of the line charcoal with brickette locker and propane starter function. You really need both if you use the grill a lot and need quick meals on the gas grill. The charcoal model takes longer and is more cleaning labor intensive- but worth the trouble IMHO. now I use the charcoal model whenever time permits. Steaks - burgers- fish - chicken - ribs- all good. use the cowboy or green egg chunk charcoal- kingsford blows
  16. I am in that camp as well. I refuse to audition jubs until I have the cash to buy. Dont know what your budget is but I can tell you that a nice of used K horns with the 2" mods is pretty freaking awesome. The modded k horns are miles ahead of the stock examples IMHO.Even in stock form I much prefer K horns over the other large Heritage speakers and I have them all except for belles. If you do check out the K horns- or the Jubs- start arranging for purchase funds- you will be buying them.
  17. Center channel- Overkill- Overkill- Overkill- Good idea- Rc 62- Better idea- Rc 64. Then save your $$ and up grade to match- upgrade proof in the reference line. Same with RC7- understanding that you will have to go with7s all around at some point. If no future plans to go Heritage- but the rc62 at the least-the rc64 for the long term. This stuff has a way of making one get the upgrade bug after purchases.
  18. Dude- your room is perfect for K horns. My room is about the same size as yours. K horns do very well as long as you have 10 feet between them. I have had them all except bells on the short wall- 13'- My modded k horns destroy anything that I have ever heard in the short wall position in 2ch and HT. You do not need a 20 foot wide room for K horns- Ask around.
  19. snooze and ya lose. It was a great event to say the least.[Y] [D] See ya next time
  20. Nice read- except now I want the Stones Exile on Main St remake- one of my favs. Thanks for posting.
  21. No mild winter here bud- Coldest this year on record with snow/ice out the wazoo. 92 here today. family outing to use the private stocked bass lake at the club. designated driver so I swilled down a few of modellos and dos equis. A basket of Bojangles chicken and fries. fishing off a covered dock with a nice breeze. bass made fools out of us. 2 big boys broke our lines like sewing thread. Using lite spinning tackle. what a joke. brought a knife to a gun fight. 6+ pound class.using Shimmano Stella spinning reeels with all star graphite rods. world class tackle. should have been up to the task. Guess those big boys didnt get to be big boys by being stupid. Maybe replace the year old line and go back for round 2 better prepared. Next time. Sipping on a modello and lime preparing for the battle tomorrow. Cooking up a mess or fresh scallops and shrimp. Hope everybody had a great weekend Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Great thread with loads of good info. My VRDs came with GE 6550s . I plan on changing the front tubes but I am sacred to mess with changing the 6550s. I bought a spare quad off the garage. A couple of local experts with extensive knowledge listened to my VRDS. One said to change the front tubes at some point. One said dont change anything. Both said under no circumstances to touch the GE 6550s in this amplifier. The tung Sols would be the only feasable upgade in the power tubes but not worth the 600-700 dollar cost. Just another set of opinions. If I see a set of Tung sols at a deal I may buy them just to play with them at some future date. A friend of mine has a set of VRDs with some Pentas not yet installed- just sitting there as spares. I would think that they would be an improvement over the standard issue Valve arts that he is currently running.
  23. Got into a bottle or Herradura gold aguave last night- tasty stuff. Got up at the crack of dawn this morning- went to the hunting lease for a work party. Climbing trees- chopping vines with a machette-moving heavy scaffold type stands around in the woods. dug holes for spme 4 x 4 posts for the rifle range. hot as 40 hells. humididy was off the chart. bunch of 50-60 year old guys climbing trees and acting like young guys- surprised that there were no heart attacks. First really heavy duty work out in the hot sun since losing the 40 lbs. The lost weight made all the difference. Seroiusly if you are considering losing weight - Do it now particulary if you are a old geezer lke me-57. Came home and crashed under the ceiling fan for 4 hours. Just woke up. Opening my first beer of the evening- Dox Equis amber with a chunk of lime-after drinking (and sweating) a half a case of bottle watter and gatorade today- This may be the best beer I have tasted in months. TH- Dont feel bad- I left my tubes on overnight after a few adult beverages a couple weeks ago. not smart. Ace- congrats on the speakers Boxx- I make a marg with Bacardi frozen mix-Heradura silver aguave-contreau-de kupper triple sec- several fresh lines peeled-couple of fresh oranges. mixed with filtered water ice in a blender- dont have the exact measurements- I eyeball them from many years of expierence using the empty mix can. A little pricey but wow - what a drink- if you like frozen ones in the summer. Be careful- they will kick your @ss. Hope everybody is on the mend- Cheers
