  1. I think that's slick and sick! Down to 21Hz with 2 12's 2 10's and 2 1.75 compression drivers; I bet that thing weighs a ton. Kinda what I have in mind for an old Magnavox console I picked up that has 2 15's and 2 horns. I want to do a little sleeper console that will kick when it's cranked up and people will just go no way.[]
  2. I agree, keep it simple and there's no reason to even run the video signal through the receiver, the HDMI will let you have everything at the TV including using the TV speakers if you have a reason to and again, I would just feed the audio from the best output source from the cable box (assuming optical or digital coax) and buy a simple 5.1 receiver that has multiple and assignable digital inputs so you're just selecting between sources for the audio. You can probably pick up a great quality 5.1 receiver used that doesn't have HDMI for next to nothing because most people want 7.1 or better now and have to have HDMI and you really don't so you could end up with a great receiver too.
  3. I would post a couple of pics and list the TV sizes and what your expectations are which can't be much since you got kicked out of the house and into the garage to watch TV. [] All kidding aside is this really just a place to watch games in 5.1, in which case I don't think you need to get nuts with either the speakers or the receiver, assuming that you're going to connect both cable boxes (audio) to the one receiver and assign the inputs based on the type of audio out's you have available on the cable boxes. (That info or a pic would help too). I would really stay focused on what you're going to be doing with the set up 90% of the time; meaning that if occasionally you are going to just play some music through the cable source, don't state that I'm going to listen to music too, or we'll blow your budget and tell you to put a set of Jubs for your mains and hang a Cornwall on the wall for your center and that you'll need at least a couple of subs that are as big as a compact car.
  4. I was just ready to prematurely judge you, but then I read the entire post.[]
  5. Let's keep it in order, his penis was used first prior to him falling off the ship and into the life boat where I'm sure they poured booze down his throat to stop him from going back on board and doing his duty.
  6. I'll agree with that to, but when you take your time into account and don't have a lot of it, the total price is really the materials and your time, based on your skill level. On the SPUD If I were looking to build one for someone off the street, (AND I"M NOT), I wouldn't build somehting like it for under $1,200 and that wouldn't include an amp but with $350-$400 in real material costs including the drivers, if you have the time and patience, you'll be way ahead of the game.
  7. I was thinking about listing some items on ebay but you have me a bit worried. Sucks when people don't do the right thing and it's getting worse all the time. I have customers try and stiff me a lot and try and get something for nothing, it's a real shame.
  8. + Another 1, + what Youth said and I'll add this; I love my RSW's and I recently built a SPUD, so I now own a Sub that digs down lower than my 15's and it's great for HT, but that doesn't make my 15's crap for HT and they are so fine for music that I think the 15 is a killer deal that for $750 will give you a ton of bang for the buck. I've also heard the SVS line as they are produced very close to where I live and they are solid subs.
  9. I'm very impressed so far, but I just haven't had the time I would like to run a lot of movies. I have run the last 15 minutes of the Transformers "Dark side of the moon", which I think is a great test and it performed terrific. More to come.
  10. It is a little different, but after spending about 5 hours listening to it with music and crossing it over at 80, it really sounds good with the 7's. I should have the amp worked out in the next week were I can cross it lower and dial it in better and I still have to get some testing done but been tied up with a tax issue the last couple of days.[+o(]
  11. I'm guilty, I was really laughing over that. It's great that we're all normal.
  12. Denise called me an as*hole a couple of times when I was doing this, and I explained to her that you don't want to see my dark side.
  13. Number 3, did you notice the picture of Rudy's damping picture laying in the Spud???
  14. That's how I know the you and I and a few select others would get along and have a great time in a social situation, because we can all be absolute dic^ heads knowing the others are laughing and waiting for the opportunity to get even. [] When were you going to tell me that I fuc$ed up???????????, Oh wait, I know, it was after I was done and you could go I'm not the only dumb as@ I'm really ROTTLMAO. I'm very pleased with the build now and will post some more pics to finalize the build, even with the screw up.
  15. HOLY CRAP!!!!!! Guys all I can say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! [] I looked at that plan multiple times and must be dyslexic because I just knew I had the wiring right.........................NOT! Changed it around this morning and screwed it back together and there it was. I'm going to run audyssey a bit later and try to hook up for some basic testing but if I don't get my gas line run today the little woman is going to blow a gasket if I just play all day on our day off, so more to come later and thanks again, you saved me a lot of time and grief.[Y]
  16. You know, that's what the counselor said and I really don't like to hear that.[]
  17. Thanks guys, I understand now and thought that in series was correct which means I'm not wired the way you described. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again.
  18. I really hate to post this but it is what it is and after lugging the awkward beast from the shop into the house by myself and setting it up where I planned for it to go in the corner behind the L RF 7, I've got something really wrong or you're all freaking nuts about how unbelievable this sub is................everyone relax, I'm sure it's something I have screwed up, I just have to figure out what it is, which is why I'm really thankful that I gasketed and screwed the top panel on for the test. [] That's the only freaking thing I'm smiling about at the moment as the Spud is producing bass and I've run music and a couple movies through to give er a run, but I'm not at all happy with what I'm hearing. It's not like it's bad, but my expectations were much higher for HT. I'm listening to it now with the 7's in 2.1 with a little Zac Brown and it sounds fine but with Transformers (Dark Side of the Moon) and Iron Man, the LFE didn't hold a candle to my 15's. I'm not doing crap until I can run some tests in the next few days, I hope, but I'm sure it's not the wiring on the drivers or it wouldn't sound as good as it sounds now (or that's my theory) I'm just going to throw out what I did and hope someone goes, I know what you need to check. I'll post the pics but the box, IMO is tight enough for testing, the hatch is double layered 3/4 BB with felt gasket (I'll just post it as it will be easier to see it). The front main panel (the one with the mouth) is gasketed all the way around and on the inner horn pieces and screwed in place with about 100 screws so I'm pretty confident that slight, if there are any air leaks, are minuscule and the connection cup is gasketed also. Here's the connection; Onkyo 805 Sub out (Same as the RSW's) to a Y cable into the Carver M200 (Bridged) and then into the Spud. I have the mains (RF 7's) backed off -12 and the Spud maxed out +12 and as far as HT goes on the movies, one 15 will knock you off the couch backed off to -10 and the Spud just doesn't compete. I have the Tang Bands wired in series (positive from one and negative from the other run to the cup and a jumper wired in + to - on the other terminals on the TB's) NOTE; I'm running a pro amp with gain on the spud and I know that there's a sensitivity difference between the 7's and the Spud, but nothing like I'm experiencing. Hopefully, the tests, that I don't know how to do, will reveal, the problem or problems that I don't know that I have and all will be right in my universe. [] My theory is that every build doesn't come out as planned, but I can't remember reading other posts where anyone really said that, but I will cause that's how I roll. I've groveling for some help here. [:'(]
  19. Congrats to Alabama and its fans. However, LSU insignificant (et al) I don't think so.... Agreed, you don't make it through their season without having a great team. I just enjoyed the game having no real team that I was pulling for, but a defensive performance that would be tough to beat. I'm sure we'll be seeing many of those players suited up and playing on Sunday. Hated to see that last injury to the Bama player on that "attempted shovel pass", that looked like a classic ACL failure but I hope I'm wrong.
