  1. I have been using an express with iphone / iPad / airplay and love it. 3.5 mm jack crossed to RCA from monoprice.
  2. Lol... Wish I could bro! I hope to hear it on my own in the near future.
  3. I haven't ever heard 18" subs that play as fast as 12's. Scrappy and Derrick both say their 18s are more than capable though. I have to admit though, most of the 12's I have heard have been ported which are more than likely very uneven.
  4. Sweet. Nice to have another klipsch fan close by. Nice setup btw.
  5. That sounds like a project. If I get done in town early enough, I am going to swing by there. Let me know what you find if you get there first.
  6. Lol... Thought I was the only Alaska guy here. I am in palmer. I will let you know for sure
  7. It will be fun to look anyway. Might be able to score something, but not at all looking to reinvent my system around jbl pro gear. Amps, racks, power controllers, wires, curtains. Might be a score in there
  8. Just talked to the guy... Lots of jbl which I really know nothing about. He isn't sure on the amps but I am going to meet up with him tomorrow... Any thoughts on jbl cinema stuff? On an aside, scooping a vpi 16 hw record cleaner off cl for $200 at lunch!
  9. I will ask... I think the curtains would be nice... I am going to call them again and see if I can get more details in what they have
  10. http://www.crssurplusmaterials.com/eagle-river-theater.html As I said, they don't have the av stuff on the website yet. Still pulling it oit
  11. 29 freezing rain right now... Perfect ht weather!!!
  12. Thanks! Anchorage ak. Probably not many members up here
  13. Not sure what I am going to do... Had a great conversation with scrappy the other day about DIY 18"s, definitely seems like that is the direction I would like to go opposed to two svs. I will eventually remodel my room and it will be smaller, but not that much smaller. My only concern is 4 18's and nothing in the 12" range. Thanks for all the input, everything hinges on selling my f113 for now, so no rush
  14. Hey all, a local recycle company is parting out a local movie theater that went out of business. They said they have all the speakers, amp, projectors etc. I am going to have a look at what they have on Friday. I don't have any experience with pro gear. Any general advice? I imagine anything THX would be a score.
  15. Anyone looking for one? $2500 obo. Piano black in pristine condition with all original packaging, manual, mic, dust cover and white gloves. Bought it off Audiogon in 2010 from a guy in Florida for same price. This is a suburb sub, but I am going to upgrade to 4 diy 18" subs so this guy has to go. Shipping is from Alaska, I think it was about $250 back then ups ground with insurance. I am in town until Friday then gone until Christmas. Pm for pics, details, etc. Cheers
  16. My jl does pretty much all the work. The velo is pretty much a chump. I can play with gain a bit and it sounds excellent with music. Ref mode is good for movies. When I really crank it though, it just doesn't hit as hard and even as I want regardless of settings or placement . Pretty sure I just need more displacement. I am pretty sure two 13 one would impress, but if I could get 4 18's fore the same price... Plus, I have always been more impressed with sealed vs ported for accuracy. Thanks for all the feedback! Love this forum!
  17. Room is ~1200 sq ft open to hall & staircase, though in the next few years the room is getting an overhaul and will be customized space for acoustics it is not ideal now, but I have seen much worse listening areas. Running my velo & jl co located under the center. Had them up front in the corners but I was really uneven and boomy even if it was a tad louder. Maybe I didn't spend enough time setting them up but the velo and jl are just totally mis matched anyway. It is probably 50/50 music & ht use. I want something so insanely loud and powerful that there is no way anyone could listen to it for more than a few mins at reference level. I definitely want overkill.
  18. Man, your 18 build thread looks sick! I am at the same spot with my f113 as you were with svs, I can make it distort and potentially break at reference levels. I just don't have the horsepower I am looking for yet, which is sort of sad because it really is a amazing sub. On a scale of 1-10, how tough was the build and how many hours do you have into them? I have no wood working skills, and minimal skills with soldering / wiring an external amp / eq. Plus, wife two kids makes time at a premium. Waf shouldn't be an issue, man cave is all mine. Talk to you later
  19. Hey guys, need some opinions here. Thinking about selling my f113 and investing in two pb13 ultras (if the price is right for a sale on my f113). Couple things. I want more bass. F113 is stout and without fault, but I sincerely want that bass slam louder and more powerful than any human could ever possible want to listen (headroom!). I like the idea of a 5 year warranty with svs, even another bargain jl wouldn't offer me that. I like the idea of having flexibility to go back and forth between ported and sealed with svs. What am I missing? Anyone have svs horror stories? Thanks
  20. Heh, this vintage 80's Yammy amp strongly reminds me of KITT from 'Knight Rider'.
  21. There are no indicators or LED's of any sort on the XPA-3 or XPA-5. The XPA-2 has a very simple LED system 'Multi segment bar graph output level meters with clip detect' on the front that consists of about 8 lights but there are no dials. If you want dials, LED indicators, and such, stay away from Emotiva.
  22. I used to own a pair of E .5 monitors (I think). They were extremely accurate as I recall and very smooth. Back then, I was still living with roommates and in apartment buildings, so I never really gave them a solid workout.
  23. Sounds like cabling to me or perhaps a component issue, maybe a bad ground. Does it do it when switching channels, like on the TV set top box or when switching source components on the AVR? First thing is first, try to isolate and replicate the problem. Does it only do it when watching television? Is it only out of one speaker? That should get you started troubleshooting.
  24. Good question. Personally, I am always skeptical of any amplifier that shows up and is 'too bright' or 'isn't a good match' for a certain set of speakers. For me, an external amplifier needs to do one thing and one thing only: provide MORE decibels / spl with LESS volume increase from the receiver. It should perform this task with absolutely no coloration or otherwise altering of the source signal. The only thing the amp does or should be doing is sending more watts to the speakers which should minimize distortion at higher volumes which will also provide a bit more headroom and clarity in the source signal. A good amp doesn't need gain controls and all sorts of wacky gimmick buttons and knobs to play with and it most certainly shouldn't alter the signal. I have heard lots of different amps, and more or less, they all generally sound about the same to me. The best thing about Emotiva XPA is they sound just as good as amps that cost 5 times as much money, allowing me to pour more money into subwoofers or IRA's or steak dinners.
