  1. A powerful sub is "must have" imho
  2. I have had a few older Marantz 22xx receivers with my Heresy they will drive them like a champ... anything over 1/2 volume is insane. I just have a airport express plugged into the back of the receiver with a 3 mm x RCA so I can stream to the Tape 1 input on the receiver. The only bad thing I can say about Heresy is they totally lack bass. Get a separate sub or step up to Forte or Cornwalls if you like rock.
  3. I recapped my heresy myself and they sound awesome. I will probably just buy the kits and do them myself. Since they already sound great, I am pretty confident that new caps will be just fine.
  4. From Crite: Q: How do I know if it is time to replace the caps in my crossovers or replace the crossovers? A: If the caps are over about 20 years of age, it is time to replace them or replace the crossovers. The caps are the main wear item on the crossovers, so a rebuild replacing the caps gets you most of the gain you could get. Replacing the crossovers completely, gets you some more gain because everything would be new and higher quality than the originals. Also consider that for some speaker lines, parts for the crossovers were of lesser quality to start with since this is a place where costs can be cut and there is not an immediate hit on the quality of sound from the speakers. This applies to the non-heritage lines of Klipsch speakers. We see that in lots of those, the quality of the parts, especially the capacitors was not up there with the quality we see in the Khorn, Lascala, Cornwall 1, Belle, and Heresy 1. So, it is good to work on those earlier than the 20 years I mentioned earlier. So, it is about $300 price difference between just doing the caps on all three or getting an entire new crossovers... I will probably just do the caps for now. With that said, has anyone seen failures on anything besides the caps on the AA networks or can anyone quantify SQ improvements by changing out the other components vs just the caps.
  5. Hmm... I didn't think the transformers (inductors?)could go bad, I thought it was just the caps that dried out. What does everyone else think? Just new caps or whole new unit?
  6. Funny enough, the lady knew what she had. I got them from a manager for a storage unit. She said the speakers had been sitting in storage for at least 10 years (I would say 15 - 20 from the amount of dust they had collected). She said she listed them a couple of times 5 years ago and someone contacted her from the east coast off an internet forum just to tell her what she had and tried to work a deal to ship them (probably a Klipsch forum nut!). She didn't say how much she had them listed for but she didn't get any takers locally and wasn't willing to crate them up. Now she just needed to get rid of them so they can rent the unit out again. I am going back tomorrow before I fly out to work, this lady said she has a whole unit full of pristine vinyl all boxed up she wants to get rid of.
  7. I have about half of the bass bin sealed up on each speaker. The windows and ledge in my room just isn't going to let me easliy get a 100% seal. I couldn't find 2" so I picked up some 1/2" and 1" pipe insulation and doubled it up. I might be able to get another layer of 1" pipe insulator on there, but at that point, who knows if it is even beneficial? I may end up tacking on some plywood to the bass bin on the area over the window and / or building on to the cabinet to get a seal on the wall or just going with the false wall setup. I will probably need to take them downstairs to the theater room and hook them up in a proper corner first to just see if it is even worth all the trouble. I ended up just going with the cheap-o felt pads on the bottom, which should be just fine. The crossovers will get a proper cleaning once I get new caps from Crite. They do sound a tad hollow, so I am quite sure they will benefit from fresh caps. Even so, these speakers are absolutely incredible. The sound is almost hard to believe. It is going to be a fun year listening to all my music again and hearing some new details. Of course, this all gets me thinking about selling out my RF gear and moving to heritage for the theater down the road. Do Hersey make good surrounds?
  8. $525 for all three! Pics to come.
  9. My laser eyed lab? Lol. Yeah, thanks for all the input guys. Amazing find, I am quite sure I will never run across a deal like this again. Pretty busy this weekend but I will try to get the Nikon out on Monday for some real photos!
  10. Sorry... LOL. It is an R so different year. Still Walnut but just seems to have slightly different shade.
  11. No, the third one is the Belle, which also seems to be in good condition although the wood seems a tad off. It could just be the lighting. Grippers, 400 grain and watco oil, got it. So just use the round 2" foam (or heavier) and staple it to the back of the sub cabinet so it seals up when pushed into the wall? I will have to take a closer look at the backs to see exactly what needs to be sealed.

    Super Bowl

Grew up in Denver, so that is who we are pulling for. I think since Denver is an older team, they want it more and should win. Plus, Pete Carroll is a scum-bag from way back and having him for a head coach makes it impossible to cheer for Seattle.
  13. I will have to take everything apart and do some good clean up on these things. The dust is literally almost ingrained in the wood. The wife is warming up to them though. She even thinks they stomp all over the Heresy's and that they look nice in the corners, so that is a huge win. Unfortunately, our 15' root bound schefflera is probably going to get sent to the wood chipper this spring. So with that said, corner placement is sort of a issue. I have windows and trim in both corners and I cannot mate them up flush to the corner without at a minimum cutting out some trim, but then even if I did the windows are still there. The bass response is still pretty wicked to my ear, better than any other speaker I have ever heard. So how much difference does it make that they are not exactly flush with the corner? I listened to 'Country Grammar' this morning and it sounded like I had my Velodyne plugged in somewhere. So far, I am very impressed and probably will leave them be unless I am really missing out on something leaving a 1-1/2" gap. Aside from cleaning everything up and getting new caps from Crite, any suggestions for maintenance? How far should I get into the speaker for cleaning? Disconnecting everything and unscrewing the cabinets will be a pretty big chore as it is, so I might just wait until the caps come in and do everything all at once. I couldn't get my heavy felt pads to stick yesterday on the bottom when I brought them in (too cold) and I am thinking about using the bigger plastic ones that you can tap in with a hammer, just to protect my floor. Maybe some rubber casters would be better?
  14. Well, got them all set up. Heavy dusting will have to wait, along with photos. I could only listen to a couple songs at very low levels because the kids are asleep and the boss was giving me the whole "don't you want to spend time with me?" thing. But wow. They look and sound fantastic so far. My room is about 20'x18'x20' and the room is just more full with these things. Everything works, so I don't have to rush out and buy a new horn, which is awesome. Pretty sure the P in the serial number indicates 1976. The caps on the aa network most certainly need to be changed. I hope new caps has the same effect on these speakers as it had on my Heresey's. I will keep everyone posted!
  15. Got them home, dusted off a bit and put I the living room had to run to get the kids and meet up with the fam for a basketball game. Will clean them up, hook them up and post pics later. Beautiful speakers though. I can't wait to get them going!
  16. Man these things are heavy... A few chips and dings in the cabinets and a bunch of dust, but otherwise they look good. Apparently they have been in storage for 10+ years and the storage company rep thinks the old owner is dead. They were bought locally from an out of business shop, so at least I am pretty sure they haven't travelled too much. More to come!
  17. NICE... Lady called me back, I am going to pick them up this afternoon!!!
  18. I love my emotiva amps. Hard to beat the price. Check out the emporium at emotiva website for used gear. I found absolutely no difference between the rs 52 and 62 after demoing both in home. Going with 52 will free up $ for subs and amps. Also, you might look into DIY 18" subs opposed to the pb13. I was thinking about getting duel pb13's but am now going to sell my jl and get 4 18" subs.
  19. Got the nod from the boss... Just emailed the guy again and will try to pick them up sometime tomorrow, if he gets back to me. So what about the corner placement? Does that really matter? I am sure it won't sound 'as good' but it should still sound loads better than my Heresy. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
  20. If I wasn't married with two kids and still had a truck to haul them with, I would be beating his door down too... Look like they are in a storage unit, that part of town is pretty industrial, so I don't think he is selling out of his home. I guess either A) This person has no idea what he is sitting on and just isn't checking his inbox yet or His inbox has about 30 offers already and he is trying to figure out how to get more money out of them.
  21. LOL. I sent him a note about 30 mins after he posted and he hasn't got back to me... Not really a 'fast market' around here. I watched a pair of $900 La Scala sit on Craigs for 3 months. Seems like a screaming deal though, especially since I would sell the belle and my Heresy. Pretty much flat to trade into Khorns. I would love to give them a nice home. Do Khorns have to be in a corner? My 2 channel room doesn't really allow for it.
  22. opps, forgot to post the link, seems like a good price. http://anchorage.craigslist.org/msg/4312335173.html
  23. Hey all, what should I look for if I get a chance to look at these Khorns and Belle. Seems like a steal unless they are trashed. Thanks
