  1. Well, I picked one up. I was actually on the way home with it in my trunk and I stopped by another hifi store to look at some cables. I ended up buying pretty much a whole two channel setup because I felt like it was such a deal. Kinda wish I had waited on the B&K even though I still want it.(or something close for cheaper) Anyway, this thing sat in the box in my floor for about a week and a half. I finally broke down and hooked it up the other night. Stayed up till three in the morning hooking it up when I have to be up at seven. Yep finally got back excited about it. Only problem is it tripped the breaker as soon as I hit the power button. Did it twice then blew a fuse. So I called the place I bought it and they said "Bring it in we'll have a look." So I unhook it, slide it out of my entertainment center, put it back in the box, give myself a hernia. I get up back to the store, they barely look at it and give me a new one. Get back home and I hook it up to a different socket. Hit power, it works. Hook it up to the other socket, hit power, it works. Whew! Slide it in, hook it back up to everything. Problem is with the load of anything else on the circuit it trips a breaker. *sigh* I guess I'm going to buy a 20 amp breaker and put in place of the 15 amp one. If that doesnt work I guess I'll take it back till I move to a new location. Does you guys power cords fit tight? Mine doesn't. This thing must hold some serious energy, it took for ever for the power to drain out. MM, so how many channels do you use of that 7260? Thanks for the response guys. Wish me luck! 3. B&k 7250 overkill for Rf RC RS-3's? Use my Denon avr-3300 as a pre. What cha think?
  4. quote: Originally posted by soundog: The Klipsch Reference subs, however, are more musical and are the better choice where musical fidelity is more important than room rattling special effects. Rsw-15 will rattle a room with no problem. It's very impressive.
  5. Jeff, thank you. Same question I had, I guess I didnt state it correctly.
  6. I have often thought about hooking up two sets of surronds and using the a+b setting on my Denon. I have to believe it won't hurt the amp or the setting wouldn't be on there. What do you guys think? Tax the amp too much? Sound like crap? Just curious...
  7. Keith, someone from Denon posts on this forum. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=50c3d8574a50f0eeba6c9d4a1b560f68&forumid=18
  8. M&K Mx-5000. You can't compare this to Klipsch, it would be vise versa. jmho
  9. Skow, with that room size Rsw-15. KlipschManiac, either the Rsw-12 or 15 Zandern, no subs are created equal so it really depends on which ones you compare. This message has been edited by Jolly Roger on 03-13-2002 at 05:14 PM
  10. Wow, nice post MM, gj. Psyke, do you plan on doing a home theater set-up in the future? Just curious. As MM stated you'll need either a reciever or seperates(amp, pre-amp, ect.). I would look into seperates personally if I were doing just stereo. When you go to buy a cd player you may want to at least look at one that does sacd. Its kinda early to tell but it looks like that may go over well. Here is some info. http://www.sonymusic.com/sacd/ Good luck...
  11. psyke, you may want to think about a price range and talk to a local dealer. This guy probably has a good 3 grand in just those two subs. For what its worth, my friend just upgraded from a Rel StormIII to a Rsw-15 and that Rsw made that Rel sound plain dinky. The Rel is only a 10" and he didnt give it enough time to break-in in its defense. But still the Rsw-15 really has some output. He has a very big room and it does a good job of shaking it. From the very first time he plugged it in we both said "Wow!". Its a big unit but does look good if you have the room. Since this is begining to sound like a review....
  12. The II's cost more but do they actually sound better? I've read the changes, but again do they sound better? The name Monster doesnt mean much to me.(Even though they make fine products)

    Klf-20

My local tweeter had the 20's at $800 a pair brand new a few weeks ago, er when ever the last time I was in there...
  14. I'm trying to understand this better so bear with me. Just because I get a standing wave from one direction doesnt mean I get it at the same frequency from another direction right? Example: If I have all my speakers set to small except my mains, and lfe sent to sub+mains. If I get a null say at 40hz from the sub I'd still hear it from the mains right? or vive versa. Where as if I had all speakers set to small and lfe just to sub I would pretty much miss that 40hz all together. Would toe in help reduce standing waves in that they dont reflect right back at themselves or is that an either/or type thing? Do push pull drivers have an effect on standing waves? Thanks for any and all input...
  15. quote: Originally posted by Seb: hey guys, sorry if i stated my opinion as a fact. I was just trying to make life simple for the first poster, and I guess I oversimplified. No problem I probably just took it the wrong way. Sorry if I came off sounding sour. Maybe I just fall into the 10 percent where all set to small just doesnt sound as good. One of the problems is no two rooms are the same and thats probably the main factor that dictates. Do you guys run small and a sub in two channel stereo also? I doesn't seem like you would. I unhook my sub all together alot when playing my tv through my speakers also. So that was really only my point that you'd have a choice not that one way was better than the other. They are both great speakers and John really can't go wrong with either.
  16. It didnt upset me I just thought it was a bad analogy who ever came up with it. Your right "Physics affects us all... even well meaning pirates who are at-sonic-sea." to bad we dont both have the same room at sea for you to tell me whats best...
  17. The Rb's do come in three different colors where as the Rf's only come in black. That and the size is thier main advantages.(plus you'd have $60 toward a center) You could always use them as rears if you ever stumbled across some cash in the future and wanted to get the Rf's. You just have to weigh the options. The Rf-3s appear to be 9" (22.9cm)wide x 16.2" (41cm) deep. Id srew around with that in my listning area to see how much space I had. My manual says nothing about distance from the wall for either speaker except that the closer to a wall will result in additional output do to reflected energy. (this is for both rb and rf) It also says that either the rb or rf should be between 6 and 15 feet apart. Another thing to consider is do you have some good speaker stands for the rbs? The manual says the rbs need to have the horn at ear level when seated for best results. Hope some of this helps....
  18. quote: Originally posted by HornEd: Obviously, the point is that "Mother Nature" seems to prefer five speakers set to "SMALL" and a quality sub. Anything less and you've either got to fool yourself or Mother Nature. HornEd Thats bs "Mother Nature" doesnt have ears. Its what creates the sound, we only try and reproduce it. You seem pretty smart too bad you still missed my point.(chioce) I could debate with you all day about which is better but it really boils down to the listning room and taste, two of which we know nothing about John. We havent even talked about two channle stereo and dsp modes. I also run my T.V. through my speakers. Set to small in most of those applications makes little things like doors slams or a book drop thunder through my sub and room and sound unnatural but maybe you like that who knows. Its about many factors and not any "Mother Nature" mobo jumbo. If it was the large and small setting wouldn't be on there, it would be fixed at small. I'll take the choice of letting my ears decide. Maybe you spent too much time reading and not enough listning? j/k John, the Rb-5s also have a rear bass port and may need the same distance as the Rf-3s from the wall.
  19. quote: Originally posted by HornEd: Freeing the five main speakers from having to carry the longer throw bass notes usually tightens them up for the sound frequencies they are best at. But its ok to ask one sub with usually one woofer to do the job of taking up the bass extentions for 5 main speakers plus lfe? I would say only if it sounds better that way. I fully understand the logistics its just not "a matter of fact" but a matter of opinion" as to which sounds better. My other point was for $60 more dollars you at least have a choice to decide for yourself. Oh and sure seb has a good sub but what about john0392 the one upgrading? One more thing. Really even if I set my center to large and even if 75% of the sound is coming from the center probably well over 95% of that is dialog wich has no real deep bass so I probably wouldn't miss very much. Sorry I was just trying to give one advantage of the rf-3's over the rb-5's which IS a fact and Seb dismissed it saying "the best option if you have a good sub is to set all speakers to small, even the RF-3. so that is not an issue." which IS opinion and maybe I took offense sorry.
  20. quote: Originally posted by Seb: the best option if you have a good sub is to set all speakers to small, even the RF-3. so that is not an issue. Thats just not true and it kinda erchs me when people state stuff like this as if where a fact. Kinda like "With a sub you dont need anything more than bookshelf speakers." The best option would actually be to have 5 full range speakers (20hz-20khz) and a seperate sub for Lfe in a home theater environment. I would rather pay a few more dollars and let my ears decide which way is best than to be stuck with something that only has one option. In other words you can set the rf-3's to small just like the rb-5 (they even have the same tweeter duh) and get the same effect but you cant go back and add bass extention to those bookshelf speakers. Btw the only speaker in my setup set to small is the center. Sorry but thats what sounded best to me.
  21. People calling names out of the woodwork and no one mentions Martin Barre from Jethro tull. Oh well add him to the list...

That may have just been for the picture to show both subs in one picture. Note that those are both on the left side.

http://www.klipsch.com/images/productmedia/large/24_large.jpg from this picture on the klipsch website they look like they're both on the same side....
  24. if you go with the rb-5's your pretty much stuck at setting them to small on your reciever(I assume yours just has small and large) with the rf-3's you could do this also or you could try large. At least you'd have the option. I can promise you tightness isnt a problem with any of the reference line with maybe the exception of the powered towers.
