  1. Just rented this movie cause i remember it had a great preview in the summer but i never goa the chance to see it. well, i saw it and i have to say that if you're going to watch it, watch in chinese with the english subtitles (unless yo don't need the subtitles) because the dubbing is absoltuly the worst thing i have ever heard in my life. it turns the whole movie into a joke. after a while when they speak there seems to be a echo across all three front speakers and is really annoying. i wanted to change but my illeterate (not literaly) friend didn't think he could keep up. anyways the only hting good about the movie is the fighting, and at this point i can't really judge the story cause i'm sure the dubbing made it worse than it really is. also very minimal sound effects in this movie.
  2. actually i was looking at maybe a ksw 10 or ps series but i guess the ps is now out of the question. right now though i'm thinking of jumping in the price range of a ksw 12, is this the best way to go?
  3. what do you guys think about putting these things on v2-400s. i'm not too fond of buying expensive cables for my computer speakers even though i don't hesitate for my ht, the question is, will it make a noticeable difference?
  4. i totally agree with both you guys. i've had it now for about a month and i can't believe the difference. and i thought they sounded good when i first bought them but now its incredible. do you guys think of getting those monster cables?

    U-2

U2 is one of my favorite bands. they have amazing songs. yo guys just reminded me about them. now i'm going to go through all my cds just to find some of their good stuff.
  6. actually i know aguy whose a real good customer where i work also said that the film did a great job of recreating the book, except that they changed some details in the movie which he couldnt understand since it made no difference to the actual story. he told me he's read the books at least 20 times.
  7. man!! justin it seems like yesterday you were at 4500 posts. that's unbelievable. i got myself a pair of pioneer earphone bud. the sound is very good but the only problem is that the left earbud only fits in my right ear, and the right one on the left. it's the only way they will actually stay on. also they come in this little mechanical device that will wind in the earphones when i'm not using them. Although i wasn't thrilled about the idea at first that the piece can't be separated from the earphones it actually comes in handy since now the wire never gets tangled on itself. Actually if you are desperate there are these tiny screws that will let you open the case and remove the wire. but it is pretty cool looking and once somebody who was watching me pull the earphones out of the case said to me "that's the smallest mp3 player i have ever seen!!!"
  8. i gotta find the time to go see that movie, also resident evil. But i don't know about the surround effects in the theatre i usually go to (i haven't found a good one in terms of sound yet), we'll just have to wait for the DVD to come out to enjoy that part of the movie.
  9. Basically my original post was to ask the starting point at which i was going to get a good sub. of course this means i want to spend the least possible but if it means i have to spend minimum 500 bucks then so be it. i wanted to know the subwoofer that you guys all like and is the cheapest of that quality you can think of. Hey! "thaEar" since we're both from montreal can you recommend any good places where i could find good equipment at good prices.
  10. i t would seem fron the subject of this thread that i was looking for a cheap sub. but what i really want to know is what is the cheapest sub one could get and still have a quality product.
  11. yyeeesssss, eastern european rebel group, talk about coincidence , i'm watching tv on my pc and just saw a preview of panic room. directed by the same guy who did fight club. now that was a crazy movie. haven't seen it dvd yet. anyways this preview looks a lot better than the one i saw at the theaters. by i still say that resident evil is on top of my list followed closely by spiderman
  12. i don't get it. is shrek the first dvd you watching that has a dts sound track. or is it the first time it hasn't worked.
  13. i bought my dvd player (Sony) before my first receiver so when i bought my receiver it didn't know either why i couldn't dts to play. but i beleive all dvd players have to be enabled to read the dts tracks on the dvds.
  14. I don't really see any interest in panic room. on the other hand resident looks to have some great effects and should be quite enjoyable. the idea of panic room is kinda boring. i guy builds in his house a room that is impossible to get into. new owner gets stuck in the room while her house is getting robbed. the problem is that all the burglers want is to get into the room. i think that's it.
  15. it's not like i buy only canadian or have something against american products ( i am presently listening to my promedias ), its just that if faced between a canadian and american pruduct i usually go north. also i am not comparing rf7s to studio100s, i can't afford that ( even though i would like that ), and at the comparison i am facing, i think i would get the best deal going with a paradigm front (center and mains) and getting klipsch for only surrounds. actually i think i read somewhere that if the surrounds are different from the fronts it makes them stand out and you get a better surround effect. obviously i will try that before i get stuck with anything.
  16. As i said in my original post, i have decided that dipoles were the way to go since i have already tried multi channel music, and it really wasn't my thing. and i really want to get that envelloping sound. i actually read that article in sound and vision and was one of the things that convinced me. the design of the klipshes really looks like exactly what i need because i wasn't too fond at putting two speakers at my sides and having the sound bounce from walls before i get to hear that sound. being from canada, i would rather buy a canadian product, and i think i am seriously going to consider mixing up klipsch and paradigm even though through what i've heard they have completely different sound. that, i know is a bad thing but the klipsch rears seem to be exactly what i need. all that is left i to try to get my klipsch dealer to let me listen to some klipsch cause every time i go he keeps pushing PSB speakers on me and has me listen to them until i get fed up and say: "i'll think about it" and then leave the store,
  17. i have finally decided that dipole surrounds would be the better choice for my ht. i was looking at the klisch surrounds and noticed how the they are made. i am trying to decide between a whole paradigm speaker system or a klipsch one, and the way they (pardigm) make their dipole surrouns is put two sets of drivers on either side. klipsch has a different approach: this is obviously not a dipole setup and i would to hear your opinions and maybe you experiences with these surrounds. i think they (klipsch) are trying to give the best of both worlds. But is this design really effective?
  18. man, justin i can't believe we registered the same month last year. and look at all the posts you have!!! i guess i like to read other people's opinions rather than provide my own.
  19. i have v2 400s and the known problem was static when the volume was adjusted. i had this problem and upgraded to the cp1 and that solved all my problems. actually over time the speakers get less loud. but when i put in the new control pod i discovered it wasn't the speakers but the faulty control pod since now it sounds as loud as it was when i first bought these speakers.
  20. i have also seen the movie a couple of times and loved it even though i did not read the books. i'm not planning to either cause i don't want it to spoil the second and third parts. one complaint i have heard is that it has a bad endind, but itried explainig to the guy that the movie isn't finished, but he keeps telling that it was stupid the way it ended. in terms of special effects and even the sound, i cannot think of a movie that has better.
  21. i saw this movie and even though i agree about the sound and the image i have to say this version is wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy to long. i cannot believe how boring it got. i think at one point i fell asleep for fifteen minutes and when i got up it seemed like at hadn't missed anything. i brought it back the same day and probably should have asked for a refund or at least a free rental. i wonder if blockbuster does that? they should cause i rent there at least twice a week.
  22. well, i went back to my dealer today and he suggested i should get a subwoofer cable, instead of the using a Y-cable along with a normal rca cable that i'm using right now. it seems the logical thing to do now. i actually emailed yamaha (my sub is a yamaha) and the only thing they told me was to bring the sub back for testing. the sub is the last thing i want to upgrade for now. i'm plannig on changing all five speakers soon, and the budget is preparing for that right now. anyways thanks for the advice.
  23. i seem to have a problem with my subwoofer. at different times when i'm watching a movie. it will make some kind of an exploding sound, really sharp almost like an electric shock. i know it is not a random occurence be cause the other day i was watching "unbreakable" and in the scene where bruce willis is standing in the middle of a train station or something and he reeaches out to feel the people passing him at one point this woman passes right next to him and he gets a flash into her life. at that point there is a suden increase in the subwoofer output and i get that exploding sound. when i go back to replay the scene it happens again. my subwoofer is not very powerful (i saw 50W somewhere in the back but i'm not sure if that's min or max) and maybe that is the problem. i mean it can't handle outputting that much base. but this to me makes no sence since it's an active subwoofer why would it try to amplify the signal at a level it can't output? right now i connected the subwoofer using a y cable and a shielded audio cable. i was wondering maybe if i got one of those special subwoofer cables maybe that would fix the problem. maybe the regular audio cable has trouble transnitting signals at that low frequecies. although that seems like a fetch to me. i would appreciate if any of you might have any idea on how i could fix this problem thanks
  24. I have a yamaha rx-v420 reciever whose specs say it delivers 65W rms and a max of 95W. i am looking in buying new speakers and am getting confused about the different ways the speakers power handling is specified. some speakers give a range to which the speakers are compatible like "15-100W". some speakers on top of this give a "maximum input power" spec also. when i went to a local dealer he was speaking in terms of "this speaker is rated at 80w" for example. what should i be looking for to match for my receiver?
