I don't agree. The newer models already have their own designation. PWK had his hand in the design of the Chorus family and its very deserving of the title.

I still think it is a tractrix vs exponential difference. There is actually no comparing the two different horn designs. The flare has the most profound effect on the sound IMHO. Almost every new design on the planet is using tractrix now. Even all of the DIY'ers build tractrix horns. Side by side an exponential horn sounds hon-key to a tractrix horn.

Oh I,m a believer that you have taken your Fortes to another level of performance. The thread started out about tweeter and mid diaphrams and I'm just not so sure that SWL will see such an improvement in the tractrix mid. But it sure doesn't hurt to give it a try. Thanks again for the offer. Would love to stop up sometime.

Have you had a chance to upgrade your Chorus ll's in any way? Well for twenty years I've happened to like the way Klipsch designed the Chorus II. It's smooth at any crazy volume. It has a 15 that moves like a 10. It's very dynamic as most Klipsch speakers are. I find it very suitable for both ss and tubes. But in the end you get what you pay for. You feed it poor electronics it will give you poor sound. You put it in a bad room you get bad results. You set it out in the middle of the floor it will sound gutless. Now could I use some new caps in my xovers? Probably, but it isn't harsh yet so I feel they're still doing a pretty descent job.

Or is it just a fact that tractrix are better than exponential? Thats exactly how I see it. I'm not saying the exponential horn isn't a descent horn, I just feel Klipsch hit a home run with the tractrix.

I still don't feel SWL will get the full picture. Fortes are exponential horns and KLF's are tractrix. Completely different animal. I feel a much improved horn but that is my opinion. The only folks I see jumping through hoops about the mid change are the folks with the exponential horns. It does appear everyone is gaga over the titanium tweeters though. As far as updating and upgrading caps I think every speaker would benefit to a degree.

Music to my ears. It seems to me like alot of the folks who are noticing a dramatic change in the mids are with the exponential horns and folks with tractrix aren't noticing the change. It also appears that everyone is experiencing a dramatic change with the titanium tweeter. This is all from the reviews I've read here and over at Audiokarma. I guess time will tell once you get them installed. Make sure to do one speaker at a time to help notice the change.

....and to my fellow headbanger......when I throw on my classic rock or heavy metal, the difference is not subtle at especially loud volumes. Something is missing......distortion. When I'm cranking, it sometimes seems like maybe the gain from the 222c isn't there. I realized quickly that the distortion that I was used to at loud volumes was not there anymore. It keeps it's cool at all volumes. Stop it your making me want to trade my Chorus II's for 30's and add a HH Scott up top. I've got the bottom covered.[] I wish I could bi-amp my Chorus II''s as easy as you can the KLF 30's.

Well the KLF is a totally different animal with its own strengths and weaknesses. But to get a Chorus II/ Forte II or Quartet to play at its potential you need a couple of good corners. And unlike the others you mention if you want to get kicked in the sternum from a Chorus II feed it some real power not those toy receivers. The K-48 in the Chorus II takes some real muscle to get it moving. But make no mistake it will kick like a jack hammer. My Marantz 250M /Aragon 4004 MK II and Crown K2 are not audiophile amplifiers but the one thing they do have in common is they can supply plenty of power to make a Chorus II slam. The QSC SRA 2422 I had could with ease as well. But receivers are left long in the dust at the starting line. Just so you know I didn't just pick up a pair of Chorus II's and try them for a couple of weeks I've been working with them for 20 years. I just don't like to see a speaker condemned from inexperience.

You've got to be kidding right. You obviously have missed something along your audio venture. My Chorus II can you hit like ,well let me put it like Queensryche would say, a 2 ton heavy thing. Seriously dude, place your speakers properly and give them some real power and come back with your report on how they dont kick. To not misunderstand, I'm not talking just loud here I can do loud with a clock radio that hurts my ears . I'm talking real power that can control and move a big woofer. Geesh, a speaker that can realistically hit 130db and dont kick [bs]

Roger, you just described the Chorus II/Forte II and Quartet family about as good as I've seen. That is exactly the way I see it. Great description and excellent advice on placement.[Y]

I've been listening to my Cornwalls for a few hours now and I'm just thrilled with them! They got moved into my living room because my usual main speakers (Forte IIs) are on waiting for their new crossovers. I have to say I'm really impressed with the Cornwalls. I don't know how many dB's I'm listening at, nothing crazy loud but not quiet and they sound awesome. I know it was mentioned above that when you turn the Cornwalls up they don't sound as good but for my listening levels I'm not hearing that at all. So awesome I'm wondering if I shouldn't have saved spending the money I did on titanium tweeters and crossover mods and just moved these up front instead. But we'll see when the new toys get installed into the Forte IIs how I feel then. Time for a little A/B head to head to see who gets to stay in the main living room spot! Thats great to hear you are enjoying your speakers. Alot of folks feel like you and just love their Cornies. I am definitely in the minority here. At low to medium volumes,as I have said, I think the Cornwalls are awesome but at 110-120dbs forget about it. They get very shrill at high volumes to my ears and the bass just rumbles as one big bass note. I like the club atmosphere from time to time and the Chorus II's can bring it. They stay smooth at crazy volumes and just pound. Now how often do I listen at those volumes? Well not near as often anymore but I like knowing how it sounds when I'm in that crazy mood. All said and done Klipsch makes and has made some kick a$$ speakers![Y]
