  1. my mother-in-law is a pro photographer as well - she shoots weddings and does infant/toddler studio work - which means we get unlimited studio sessions so here's a couple of her shots ..
  2. It was your Cinema F-20 that got me started on this. I was probably going to build a Tuba HT, but wasn't real exited about starting because of the time it took to build the tuba table (lots of angled cuts!). This one is much easier and I can't get over how good it is. aww, shucks. He saw how easy it was for you to build. it was my favorite type of DIY project: pick and buy the parts, let some other guy put it all together, and enjoy. speaking of which, let me know when you want to build a pair of cornwalls or la scalas from scratch in a couple of years and you might just have an interested recipient.

  4. 10-24 cage nuts immediately remove that problem i just don't want the guy to think that there's something magical about AV racks and shelves and feel forced into the price tag they garner. server racks and shelves are just as usable - i picked up a bunch of APC rails for free and built my own full-depth shelves out of 3/4" mdf. a couple 2-post shelves for my odds and ends stuff, and some cage nuts for the items with rack mount ears, and everything is nice and tidy. once I pull everything apart and paint, I'll have about $100 invested in a rack system that is no less capable than "AV racks".
  5. there's nothing particluarly special about these racks/cabinets. go find a typical server rack on your local craigslist for around $100 and paint it whichever color you wish. shelves get a bit more expensive, especially if you have really heavy gear, but many options exist from places like monoprice - or even from the person you purchase your clist rack off of.
  6. nice build! welcome to the club..
  7. oh yes - been quite a busy month for our families. mother in law had a total knee about a month ago, my dad had two surgeries for kidney stones (the last of which was the friday before our birthing) and my sister had a heart ablation the thursday before our birthing. so we're all quite tired of hospitals right now, but everyone is recovering well and without complications.
  8. black and whites are my preferred as well - i like playing with light and shadow, and the shapes that come out of the two. sometimes though, color is just more fitting.
  9. that would be ME. I used to shoot weddings and such, with my specialty being details shots and a photojournalistic style of capturing moments. That experience is making for an easy transition into recording my new family. I sold my Nikon kit a couple of years ago, but kept my panasonic GF1 and 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens - a truly great combination of gear and still versatile enough for this type of photography.
  10. and the baby beard has officially been trimmed - close to 2". That's as far as I'm willing to compromise with the mob of pro-shavers.
  11. ha! i forget that none of us are Facebook friends. we had a media blackout for a few days while we assimilated to this new life, but are doing much better. I'm working from home this week and next and was able to take last week off. I also worked from home for about 3 weeks prior to delivery - I've got a pretty sweet boss/company. Our kid is super mellow. she eats, sleeps, poops on about a 3-4 hour cycle so we've actually managed to catch up on sleep. her weight is up, slight jaundice is gone, and she's as perfect in her health as is possible. not real fussy at all and it would seem all of my noise conditioning in utero paid off - she doesn't startle AT all and we don't have to walk around on tip toes for her to stay asleep. Morgan (wife) is recovering wonderfully from her c-section and starting to get this whole breast feeding thing figured out. she'll return to work in about a month, at which point I'll be working from home for her two days each week. Let the sappy photos commence:
  12. pretty hectic all around, but Rancho del Ray remained unscathed. we're very grateful.
  13. there was a guy over on the AVS forum DIY section, who recently committed suicide, that was OBSESSED with loud sub 10hz sound. he had to brace his room's ceiling with lumber, fan blades flexed, it was a nightmare. video here: all that to say: i think you'll be ok.
  14. Creating children is not something you would want to do often but you can practice so you will be ready. we practiced A LOT to get this one. [6] Please also know that I will be posting a photo of my infant in the mouth of the sub once we get home and settled in. i simply think it would be improper NOT to.
  15. man o man i wish i could see what my ignored people list posts.
  16. Untill they activate the "ignore" function and you put me and detel on the list, then no. What a great pic, nothing better than family...................nothing. Where's the 4 generation pic with all 4 ladies? hehehe. all of you are ignored, hence forth.
  17. Is no thread sacred and safe from rabbit-hole conversations? here she is with one of her great grandmothers ..all 4 are actually still alive, but this one is the only one in-state. and this is actually my daughter's mom's mom's mom ..so we got a cool picture with the full 4 generations of Knust women together.
  18. thank you all! it's been a nice mellow day - both ladies are getting better and better in their recovery. We should be going home on Thursday if this trend continues.
  19. slept a couple hours after 4am, but not because she was fussy. just couldn't bring myself to put her down and go to sleep. She's very mild mannered so far and has been a dream. All test so far have been passed with flying colors. We are truly blessed.
  20. 21.25", 7.7lbs, beautiful little girl. 12 hours of labor, ultimately resulting in a C-section, but both mom and kiddo are doing great and recovering comfortably. Adelaide Marie Ray
  21. as well as all of the speakers terminals on the back of the AVR.
  22. did you happen to press the mute button on your remote?
  23. this is how he copes with regret for selling me his RF-5's.
  24. For reference, my Denon 3808ci has all of these - it came out in 2007 at an MSRP of $1700. I picked it up about 1.5-2 years ago from a guy on Craigslist that was selling it for $900, but managed to do an even trade. They still go used for around $500. The point: you can still get some great deals on mid to higher-end old tech that will support current standards, minus 3D.
