  1. you asked for our opinions ...if you want in-ceilings, go with in-ceilings ..but they will be horrible performers compared to your front stage. you'd be better off just not doing anything for rears.
  2. i disagree ..i think everyone here that has involved themself in a cable discussion has at least owned up to the fact that cables sound different in different setups and to different ears. I think the end-goal of this exercise is the freedom of trying out some different materials before one goes out and buys the parts/completed cables for themselves. no more "i wonder if" or "wish i had tried" issues. So while his observations appear to be conclusive, they certainly differ from what he expected (technical vs. perceptual knowledge) and will most likely differ from what each of us find. or not ..that's what we're here to find out.
  3. if you do your research, buy something that will give measureable improvement to your wife's ears, and buy her things she wants ...you can get away with anything in that room. you just need to be able to back it up with data, make sure she can hear the value once it's installed, and distract her with shiny things the rest of the time.
  4. looks like i'm about an hour away .. google map
  5. since I'm in dallas, keep me at the end and I'll either ship or drive them down and spend the day oogling your gear, etc.
  6. i would go ask over on this forum: http://thecarversite.com/yetanotherforum/ .. good bunch of guys (some of them cross-post over here), and a focused carver head audience. You should be able to get all of your answers with ease..
  7. Hopefully you're acclimated to my sense of humor by now. oh, most certainly ..it's quite similar to my own
  8. heh, you're probably right on both points, Carl.
  9. i cut a triangle piece out of the yoga mat my wife bought me (but never used) and it seems to work quite well as a gasket between feet and floor.
  10. i think you're looking for devils where there aren't any to be found. $3 is nominal and is just part of school expenses every parent should budget for. If $3 is really that difficult, then most likely the family is in state of poverty and should be, if not already, working with the school for assistance in stuff like this (as well as lunches, school supplies, etc). The programs exist and are there for families in need... that's why kidless people like me pay taxes to support the local schools. In highschool, there were kids in my english classes who had to go to a different class and do different work because their parents wouldn't let them participate in curriculam studies like catcher in the rye or "the graduate" .. or watch "the miracle of life" in biology, etc etc. Not everyone can/wants to participate all the time and so the teachers have to do something with them. now, having said all that, I certainly don't think the public school system is great or working like it should; I'm a prime example. I just don't think there's some subversive attempt to create a caste system out of 6yr olds.
  11. I have, just don't know where to start or the budget to do it right now. I've searched and search, but only find people doing the 7', and then i wonder what sort of sound issues I'll run into by upgrading my RF-5 crossovers and not the RC-7 ..or the RC-7 and not the RF-5's ..or upgrading all 3 .. RichP's MK II mods .. looks like the waiting list has extended to 4/23/2011 ..busy guy for a hobby endeavour.
  12. I'll be modifying my carver m-1.0T ..and yes, most likely using a dremmel to cut a hole for mounting the socket. I've already changed the db level LED's to blue on this thing and am in line for a June spot to have it MK II'd by RichP. Everything else has IEC sockets, but since this is what drives my mains, I need to get it converted over for the sake of using these power cables.
  13. i know ..but it was either 5 of these from taiwan to parts-express to my house for $10 or 20 from taiwan straight to my house for $10.
  14. one of the teams is definitely going to win by at least 1 point, of this I am certain.
  15. Fewer stops between source and screen is still an important thing to consider, but much less of an issue with today's AVR's. The biggest benefit is cable management, especially with HDMI. ease of use (set your tv to a single input and then just switch inputs on the receiver).
  16. most movies aren't even recorded in 7.1 audio. and the effects sent to the rear surround channels are negligible. having said that ...give it a shot , worst case scenario is that you've got a nice pair of 3's for a 2-channel setup somewhere else.
  17. let me know if i wasted $15 .. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370312462065&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
  18. and history shows that "christianity" was of equal threat to humanity and responsible for hundreds of years of land-grabbing murderous battles. religion isn't the discussion here ..one's ability to separate a man from his differing beliefs and still appreciate him as a human is what is being discussed. it's possible to completely disagree with what a person stands for, yet recognize their place in this world and find something worth loving and appreciating. if not, well then there's no point in walking out the front door and interacting with the world around you .. i for one choose to live with people rather than apart from them.
  19. i drove my RF-5's about 6 hours, woofes facing up (packed in original boxes) without any issue. Dunno if the woofer baskets are any different in material/construction, but you should be ok.
  20. so, i ended up with 20 male IEC sockets and only need a handful. If anyone would like a few, shoot me a PM and we can arrange shipment.
  21. religion, sexuality, political, or other personal beliefs..i consider these things to be part of one's personal life, regardless of how publicly known they may be or their effect on the artist's creations. I don't condone a whole lot of actions or ideas in this world, but I also don't condemn those people who believe differently than me. people are unique, and every one of them has something to offer ..even you neo33. so i should be paying attention and seeing what I can learn, experience, and enjoy from this vast world around me. my core beliefs are unwavering, but that doesn't mean i am inflexible or unable to change and grow as a person. to the contrary, but knowing what my core beliefs are, i am allowing myself a great deal of freedom to explore and interact with the world around me ..while at the same time not betraying anything i have deemed to be important. i don't have a problem with you not liking cat stevens ..many people are in the same boat as you and for various reasons. I have a problem with you not really having any reason (or at least the strong enough conviction to state your reasons) and your general lack of consistency. my suggestion: cut to the chase and let tell us what you feel so strongly about, or shut up and see if maybe you can enjoy the man's art in spite of the fact you don't agree with some of his choices.
