  1. heh, thanks carl. ...any clue as to why this would keep blowing fuses? (been through a full set of 4 now) ..flip the switch and blows the fuse. I've sent an email to klipsch support as well as to the seller to see if they'd pay for the repairs vs. shipping back and refunding, so we'll see. more waiting.
  2. was there any progress on this? it appears my used rt-10 is doing the same thing.
  3. over-anticipating things makes the inevitable happen. sub is here, and in fantastic shape. two grills have fully broken pegs and will replace those later on. immediately, it won't power up, but the fuse is blown ..so hopefully the only issue.
  4. ps3 support definitely thinks there is an issue and wants me to send in for service @ $99 (out of warranty). So i'll give the optical a shot and start saving for a ps3 slim ...no sense paying 1/3 the cost of a new one at this point. I'm just glad that a) it doesn't appear i have an impossible to find ground loop and sony didn't jerk me around.
  5. ohhh, good call zach. just checked and it's set at 0, i even set it to -4 for grins, with no change ...sigh
  6. i've submitted the scenario + sound byte to playstation support, so not very optimistic. couldn't find my optical cables, so I just ordered another one and will see if that resolves the issue. If i recall, I only lose the 7.1 channel audio data when using the optical cable, which I don't current use..
  7. sub arrives today and the tv on monday. i love toys
  8. i'm fond of marantz gear ..and the 5003 looks to be a solid receiver. hdmi 1.3 REPEATING is good and what you want. units that provide only switching have compatibility issues. plus it has full 7 channel pre-outs so you can add dedicated amps if you need more power down the line.
  9. as a former IT guy, I'm pretty sharp with troubleshooting and google ..but I've found nothing close enough to my issue that isn't a ground loop. So i've sent a message to playstation support along with my sound clip and will hopefully have a solution that doesn't involve me sending in my gear. (though unlikely)
  10. definitely a high freq digital hiss. I don't suppose I've ever actually heard a ground loop (and known it) ..so i didn't have a baseline for comparison. the noise becomes audible from around -30 on towards 0. in the past I could always hear slight static during input silence around -5, but that's to be expected at such volumes. so here are the facts: the noise is present in all 5 speakers the noise is present from around -30 and louder (this measurement is relative to each system, but is about normal listening level on my system) the noise only appears to be present on the ps3 input over hdmi, regardless of the hdmi input. does not exist if ps3 is off, or if on another source with ps3 on/off the noise does not go away with a different hdmi cable the noise appears regardless of lpcm or bitstream options on the ps3. the noise exists with the cable box removed from the system. the ps3 has been in place and used for upwards of 8 months in this system (with other speaker changes along the way), yet the noise began yesterday. this may be a coincidence that it happened when I installed the rc-7. i can't locate my optical cables for additional testing, but the noise DOES NOT exist over analog rca connections from the ps3. for reference, the rc-3 ii's sensitivity is 97dB @ 1watt/1meter and the rc-7's is 98dB @ 2.83 volts/1 meter i'm going to start hitting the ps3 forums for hiss over hdmi, but if the collective knowledge here has any other suggestions, feel free to speak up.
  11. i recorded the noise, which can be heard here: http://www.synapticjunctions.com/shared/hum.mp3 just to be sure that I am in fact hearing a ground loop and not something else. what aspects of the rc-7 could be potentially causing problems, that the rc-3 did not? literally nothing was moved on the back end during the speaker swap. i don't remember if this started happening before or after I re-ran audyssey ..could that be another culprit?
  12. oh, and even without a sub while running the front 3 as "large", the sound in exponentially better. can't wait to throw the rt-10d into the mix
  13. agreed, which is why i'm so frustrated. power cables are all tucked away and my only pair of interconnects in the system (aside from hdmi) are plenty shielded. i'm seeing plenty of instances over on avs forum about the ps3 and ground loops ..tried all those fixes to no avail. logically, this should have been happening from day one. or at least happening across all sources. i need to get a 3 prong adapter to slap onto the ps3 and see if that fixes and maybe a coax line filter. if those don't work, i'll look into dumping cash on a line conditioner.
  14. just a quick thing to check ..did you try it on another plug in the house to make sure a breaker or GCFI plug hasn't been tripped?
  15. speaker is great ..but now i have a big wtf. i now have a hum when using my ps3 over hdmi. everything online points to a ground loop, but this didnt exist prior to installing the rc-7. ..continues to happen when i disconnect the rc-7 wire, coax to set top box, and move various interconnect and power cables away from each other. it STOPS when I disconnect the ps3's hdmi cable, switch inputs, or pause whatever is playing on the ps3. scratching my head here, so any suggestions are welcome..
  16. couldnt stand it any longer ..so i drove to the office and picked it up. havent calibrated yet ...and even now it sounds amazingly better
  17. garr! ..had the rc-7 shipped to my work so it wouldn't sit all day on the porch ..it arrived today, and I'm working from home.
  18. any official commentary on this? (Amy )
  19. and being the gadget ***** that i am ..i've accepted this inevitability.
  20. LOL ..choked on my coffee when i read this..
  21. i'd be willing to do this for dallas stuff if anyone needs.
  22. you should indeed notice a difference and your AVR shouldn't have any issues driving it.
  23. so what are you waiting for? rip those bad boys out and get a stand for the tv/equipment and get those speakers placed properly. 3/4" plywood on top of those cabinets might make for a nice workbench + storage solution.
