  1. The UMC-1 has been out for about a month now, I really want to get the XPA-5 for my RF-7's, RC-7, and RB-61's, I have heard nothing but good things. I was told they might start packaging deals, so Im saving up now and hopefuly can get an XPA-5 and UMC-1.
  2. Well I will try and help you out as much as I can, I have both sets of speakers in my house right now. I have had the KSF 8.5's for about 10 years and the KG4's for about a year. What will you be using them for? Obviousely you know they are very different looking speakers, the KSF's are taller and sleeker, and the KG's are shorter, stubbier and a lil less pleasing to look at, but their not ugly. I used the KSF's for movies 90% of the time, and they handled that very well. But for music they are definitly lacking bass, so make sure you have a sub if your gonna use them for music, I will assume you have a sub for movies. The horn on the KSF also seems to be a little bit more laid back compared to the KG's. Now I have not used the KG4's for movies, they are strickly for two channel in the pool room. They are loud, punchy, and the horns are in your face.....so if your some old fogie(no offense old guys) your proally not gonna like them. And they have very good bass, nothing overpowering, but they have enough not to be like "i need a sub" for music. Now I am not some guy who sits down in a chair and does "critical listening", I think that is just wierd. I usually have them playing while Im shooting pool, playing cards, cooking, on the computer or cleaning up the house. They play very well at all volume levels too. If it helps at all I am selling the KSF 8.5's after 10+ years, just because I have moved on to bigger RF7s. I believe you wont be upset with either for movies, but the KSF's lack a little bit in the music department. It all depends on what you listen to, how loud you listen, and what you like. So lemme know if you have any other questions and I will try and help you out. Oh and I am in Orlando, Fl. If your close you can definitly come over for a listen. How much can you get both for? They are proally around the same price depending on what condition they are in. The KG4's will proally go for a lil more if both are in really nice condition. Good luck!
  3. awesome!! congratulations!! make sure you give them tons of power....and you wont be able to take the smile off your face!
  4. http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/klipsch-classic-rf-7-overview/ Nice!!
  5. Thanks guys. Thats pretty much what I wanted to hear. I just dont have the $ to go seperates right now. So I think I will drive over and pick up one of the 8001's from acc4less and use that. The longest the receiver will ever be on is just for one movie for the most part, so I guess I wont have to many problems. And the fact that the dealer is 20 min away makes me feel a lil better if something were to happen. Thanks everyone......I will just put the xpa-5 and umc-1 and on wish list for now. lol
  6. Ok, bear with me here. If I got the Marantz SR8001, would I be hurting it by running my RF7's on small? Seeing how low the ohms drop on the RF7's, would it be hurting the receiver over the long run? It be used for 90% movies, and 10% music.....
  7. Thats what Im thinking....but do you think I should go with the XPA-3 or the XPA-5, I dont mind spending the extra $200, if I am already spending $600...ya know...or will those 200w be to much for my surround RB-61's?
  8. Do you think that is $700 better than an brand new Emotiva XPA-5?
  9. Yes, I have two 12" subs. But I will be upgrading to an ED A3-300 sooner or later, bass isint the problem....By "balls" I mean kick, and punch and overall dynamics, and more volume, sorry for the confusion. If I were to just get an amp, would my Yamaha do ok as a pre-amp?
  10. Ok, so here is my situation. I have some RF-7's, an RC-7, and some RB-61's. I dont have the intentions of going 7.1 for a long time, if ever. Right now I have a PS3, HD cable box and my receiver is a 6-7 yr old Yamaha HTR-5760. I just dont think I'm getting the "balls" I and looking for from my receiver, although it is holding its own. I know the RF7's drop down to the high 2ohm range when pushed, but is that true when my receiver is set to "small" crossed at either 60 or 80hz? Having said that, what would you recommend for me, I listen to this system for about 90% HT and 10% music....I have a whole other room for 2-channel music. Would you recommend a receiver or should I just get an Emotiva XPA-5 and run that off my Yamaha.....If you would suggest a receiver, it would have to be one with some balls, I was thinking the Marantz 8001. I wanna stay away from something that runs really hot, as my Yamaha never even gets warm. Well, hopefully I can figure something out. Thanks for everything guys.
  11. I acted quick and picked up the RB-61's from 6ave for $280 shipped, to use as surrounds, but until I get my stands made I have them hooked up to my 2 channel set up and they are doing very well.
  12. Gotcha....well it is a very easy diy, the plugs just screw apart, slide the cable in and screw the tops back on. They are a pretty tight fit. I did them to all my connections. If your worried about it, skip the banana plugs and just use the bare cable.
  13. Hey whats up....my personally, I would goto monoprice.com, buy some cable and plugs and do if myself, however,if you really like the monster name, the klipsch website under the "buy now" link has a nice speaker cable kit for 70 bucks, which isnt a horrible price, but still more that than diy. here is the link http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/monster-cable-kit-5-1-overview/
  14. Just got my RB-61's from 6ave about an hour ago. Packaged nicely, no dings in either box, speakers in perfect condition. They sound good, should be a nice fit in the rest of my system. Next purchase is the ED A3-300. Then I am done with speakers for a longggg time. Great deal for these RB-61's....pretty darn happy.
  15. Nice!! I just placed an order for a pair of RB-61's to use for some surrounds, for $280 shipped. I think thats a pretty good deal. Im pretty damn happy to finally have all my speakers, which I will keep for a veryyyyy long time. RF7's, RC7 and some RB61's....
  16. Nice, that is awesome!! I have a yamaha receiver too, and was looking at the xpa-3 for my rf7's and rc7.....did the sound change? or did it just get fuller and bigger? i assume your running the surrounds off your receiver which is what i would do too...makes me wanna pull the trigger on one real bad...
  17. any recommendations for a soild 5-channel amp that puts out about 140-200 watts? and where would i go about looking for a used amp? audiogon seems to be a littleout of my budget most of the time and craigslist is a huge crapshoot unless its local.
  18. do you think the emotiva xpa-5 would be a good combo for them? or maybe just an xpa-3 for the front 3 channels and let my receiver handle the surrounds. and to the question earlier, yes as far as I know you only need one component to decode the new formats.
  19. The Yamaha holds its own for movies, plays pretty much as loud as I can stand, and just barely gets warm. Music I think leave a little to be desirsed, not to big of a deal, cause I have a music setup in the back pool room. Budget for the receiver would be about $750. I guess I should just get the PS3 first and see how everything goes, and go from there. Seperate topic....I have one question about clipping, is has not happened to me but.....does the amp "have" to get hot first before clipping would start?
  20. Hi, so....I am looking for a new receiver. Sooner or later I will be getting around to either getting the new Oppo BD player or the PS3 , so I dont really have to worry about the receiver decoding anything. I have RF-7's and an RC-7, with some older KSF 8.5's for surrounds until I can find something a little smaller for surrounds. I have an older Yamaha HTR-5760 now, but am looking for a lil "more". I am interested in the Marantz SR8001, as I can get it for a good price and have it be factory refurbed with warrenty. It will be used for about 75% movies and 25% music. Will that be a good match for the speakers and my situation? Is there anything esle you all would recommend. Im trying to stay away from seperates for now.
  21. Taken, is an awesome movie. Great action, good soild movie!!
  22. can you describe the difference in sound with these new crossovers? for the rf-7's.
  23. everyone on here is awesome!! i really appreciate all the good words....unlike bill, I will have these in my main system for as long as I can forsee, and I am super excited. I should have joined this site along time ago when I bought my first Klipsch's, about 10 years ago, im 28 now. Kindly enough, a guy emailed me about selling his cherry rc-7.....and I am thinking of taking him up on the deal, although I would like to find a local one, cause he is in washington state and i am fla....hate for it to get damaged on the long journey....so we will see.....thanks again guy!!!
  24. He was a very nice guy, about 40ish, lived in a super nice neighborhood in what I would say about a 400K house. I dont think he needed to money to bad, just wanted to get what he thought was a fair price.
  25. hate to dissapoint, but it is just a yamaha htr-5760.....beleieve it or not it has pushed any speaker i have had to levels even i dont listen at, and does so pretty easily, it barely gets a workout during a movie, most of the time it stays cool. however, i would like to step up to an emotiva a/v processor and an xpa-5 when i feel comfortable spending some more cash, by that time i should hopefully have an rc-7.
