Seems like there is a variety of layouts.

The SX1250 has the most awesome bass of any receiver. The classic car analogy isn't bad... might not be the fastest anymore but still fast, looks and sounds good getting you there! Can you get better amplification for 2,800? Yeah, but that's not the whole point when talking about vintage receivers. These things are like ice cream to me and I like lots of flavors!
The top end vintage Pioneer, Yamaha, and Marantz sound really good! They all need to be rebuilt if they haven't been by now though. Heritage Klipsch might do fine with low power but it doesn't mind lots of power!

I'm thinking some folks are just looking at the rate listed on their bill? Maybe I missed a comment on that but the only number that matters is the total cost. How many KWH did I use and what was my total bill including all the fees and taxes. I was at 13.7 cents per KWH in June but it has gone as low as 11.2 this year. I've been tracking for almost 10 years now and have averaged a 4% increase in cost every year. That yearly increase is what pushed me over the edge to finally install solar panels this summer. Payback for solar seems pretty good in the more expensive states.

I'd love La Scalas but I haven't heard the new IV models of the Cornwall or Heresy. You have to be willing to go without some bass with the La Scalas... I went for years before adding subs. I was pretty happy for that time but now I wonder what I was waiting for!
I'm curious how your imaging will be with speakers at that end of the room. I had trouble with instruments and singers sliding all over the sound stage in a similar setup. I found that I had to move the speakers to the wall where the ceiling was most symmetrical to the speakers to get a solid sound stage. This meant I didn't get to put my seating where I wanted but it made for the best sound. Just food for thought.

The stereo version has the same voice as the mono blocks. Don't see these come up for sale very often. That is a nice looking cabinet!

If you put it in a nice wood cabinet then you will want to show it off... not stack stuff on it!
Joe in south central Missouri did a beautiful job building a cabinet for my 2330. It was an absolute perfect fit!

Ohhhhhh maybe that's my problem! Moving speakers can be difficult while holding a beer anyway.

Paul of http://www.manymoonsaudio.com/ did a fantastic job rebuilding my Marantz 2330!
It should have been just used for parts but Paul painstakingly rebuilt multiple circuit boards that had traces destroyed by some lunatic. It looked like somebody attacked the circuits with a wood burner or huge soldering iron for making stained glass. He replaced all electrolytics with great parts and ran copper wires where traces used to be. It couldn't have been for money as much as it was for love of preservation of a piece that would have wound up on a junk/parts pile otherwise.
By the way, if you are looking for a wood cabinet for your Marantz I found a builder in Southern Missouri who does good work building Marantz cabinets! PM me and I'll look it up. Beautiful finish and perfect fit.

You should NOT use a 5751 in a phono stage as it has 30% lower gain. You need that gain in a phono stage. The 7025 is a much better choice. You should also try 12AX7 from Telefunken, Mullard, Amperex, and RCA (black plate).
Oh good point about the 5751 in a phono! Never tried the 7035 but I liked all of the rest in the phono stage and was partial to the Telefunken. You won't find any for 15 bucks though.

If you ever turn the light off, those stupid things will condense water out of humid air and drip down onto the speaker.
The light keeps them warm and above the dewpoint, but if they are off and conditions are right, they will attract water and drip.
Its as terrible of a situation as having a potted plant on a speaker.

I'll have to look at my supply of 12at7... I don't remember what I have off hand. This is why it is a good idea to take notes! Mullard, Amperex, Tele's... it's hard to go wrong. I rolled just about everything I had through there. I'll look at reply back when I can.
The Reflektor is subtle but had a better image it seemed. I can say mine measured better with identical output on each side... the Sovtek's were off by a bit.

Mullard's are hard to beat in the NBS. I really liked the Brimar military black plates... a little bit more clarity... nice top to bottom!
I liked the Reflektor 6H30P-DR... expensive but perfect balance compared to the Sovtek.

On my La Scalas I just used a putty knife to scrape off the bulk of it and installed 1/8” gasket material. Done. No mess

If you are liking the current sound I'd leave the current crossovers alone... at least for a while. I'm pretty sure the capacitors could use replacement BUT I'd rather pickup replacement crossovers or see if someone here has some B or B2 networks for sale in the Garage sale section that you could recap. I tried about 5 different crossovers in my Cornwalls. Where I wound up currently (and happiest) was with a pair of B networks from the garage sale that I converted to B2 networks and used Jupiter caps.
Rundown on crossovers used:
original ALK (ver2)
Original B network with original caps
Original B networks with replacement Sonicaps
ALK ES500 and ES5000 networks
ALK Cornscala-Wall network
B2 networks with Jupiter caps
I guess I counted wrong... I tried other caps as well so I guess that's more iterations than I imagined.
If I listened loud all the time I might have stopped with the ALK extreme slopes. At least that was my thinking at the time.
