  1. Dennie my friend [] great to see you around!!! Life is good Brother... Check out my new set-up in "Lets see your Klipsch speakers" thread. New home makes for great upgrade in wall treatments ))
  2. Hi Kev, First off, there are NO stupid questions here! This forum is here to be helpful and fun. There are alot of wonderful people here who have a passion for quality gear as well a passion to be helpful with others gear. So fire away with your questions. I am sure others will chime in "Welcome to the Forum Kev"... Gosh, where start my friend These Yamaha amps are very true to their power output. So be careful, your M-85 has the potential to eat those RF-82's alive. I have unfortunately learned the hard way. Had to replace all 4 drivers in my 7's. Even though they are rated at 250 WPC, use caution, even more so with your 82's at 150 WPC. The meters, in my opinion are very accurate. The outside numbers are your power output. I never drive the volume up to peg out the meters. I have a traditional volume knob and never turn it above 1/2 way. That said, I do push my system very often, everything its got... My advice is to listen closely and use discretion. Also, let your subs do their job. Take some bass out of your speakers and crank up the subs. As far as a 2nd amplifier, you can find many quality, smaller amps relatively cheap, $200. One thing to consider is finding one with gains. This way you can adjust the horns to your preference. My 50 WPC Rotel just happens to be spot on for me. Once you find a "sweet spot" you will not have to continue adjusting for gain. You will find a place you are happy with and that is where it will stay. This is one reason I like the Rotel, no gains and I am thrilled with its performance. Simply preference though. I hope this has helped some. Again, I am sure others will chime in with other suggestions for you. Glad you are here my friend, Rock n' Roll...
  3. You can buy splitters at Radio Shack or comparable outlet. I have bi-amped my RF-7's with very favorable results. I am running an M-80 to the drivers and a 50 WPC Rotel to the horns. You will not bi-amp, in laymens terms, one amp to one speaker, one amp to another speaker. This would only be necessary if you were running mono-blocks. You will want to run one of your Yamaha's to the drivers (LF), the other amp to the horns (HF). VERY IMPORTANT!!! Make sure you remove the jumpers between HF and LF on each speaker input terminal. Bi-amping in this fasion will enable you to adjust the gain to your horns to your preference. The reason I bi-amped was to tame the horns on my 7's. They were very bright (ear piercing) at high volume levels. The result has been incredible and it really warmed the sound, buttery smooth if you will. Give it a shot, I think you too will be very pleased. Rock n' Roll my friend [8]
  4. Humorous observation Tim For me, the screen is simply optional. 2.2 channels of thunderous Klipsch sound, MANDATORY!!! The ratio of my music to TV, I could do with out the TV...
  5. A pair of McIntosh XD717's. According to some here I would have had "buyers remorse" if I did not pick them up @ $150/pair. Still have no idea what to do with them, have not even hooked them up to listen yet. Sister said they sound fantastic... Rock n' Roll my friends.
  6. My 2.2 now in my new 100 year old house, YAY !!! []
  7. Welcome to the Forum, From my own experience, bi-amping my 7's has produced marked improvements. A taming of the horns if you will. Currently, I am running the drivers of my RF-7's with a 250 wpc Yamaha M-80, the 7's love power and this really sends the huge punch I was looking for. Before bi-amping the the horns were very bright and ear piercing. With the addition of a small Rotel 50 wpc amp to run the horns (bi-amped) this brightness was eliminated. I believe the RF-82 has similar characteristics and would benefit as well to such application. As far as your choice of subs, I originally was running 2 Velodyne Impact 12's. Note, you get what you pay for... The Impacts do their job but are certainly lacking in the "earth moving" department. I upgraded to the Paradigm PS-2200's. Ground shaking improvement. I would suggest you find as high quality and powerful sub as you can afford. The thoughts of the extra dollars will melt away after your first session I hope this at least gives you something to think about. I think the most important thing to remember is to just have fun with it. Again, welcome to the Forum and your new hobby.
  8. Likewise Dennie, life is good [] Thanks all, now have a set of McIntosh loudspeakers for the bedroom of my new house. Will run them thru SYSTEM II. Shoot, did not even know McIntosh made speakers. Will be December before I can give any updates, doing a complete gut and remodel of the new pad. Have even incorporated a special little insulated corner wall for one of the 7's in the remodel. Pretty exciting stuff for me. Rock on my Friends ? ? ?
  9. I know nothing about these speakers. I don't need them but can't decide if I want them. Sister picked them up for $150 and offered to sell them to me for the same. Is this a classic loud speaker well worth grabbing up? Do they have a good potential to need some updates/repairs. Any information greatly appreciated.
  10. Hi Rick, I have a Marantz SACD/DVD 8300. Simply love it. The most beautiful, well designed and elegant piece in my collection. I chose the Marantz for its quality and have been pleasantly impressed day in and day out with its performance. Congrats on the new toy, it is exquisite. 2-channel Rock n' Roll Brother [Y]

  16. If this help or hurts. - $40 Cornwalls.. .
  17. Hi gzman, First of all I have been lurking for awhile now looking for a reason to post. Thanks[] It was an accident I stumbled upon Klipsch. I found a pair of Cornwalls about a year ago at a garage sale, $40. Of course I bought them, now what to do with them? A good friend of mine helped me haul them back to my place with stars in his eyes. Long story short I set my buddy up. Cornwalls, Adcom 5400, junk Hitachi CD player and even more junk Yamaha C-something (badly needed cleaning) pre. He was stoked, and it sounded OK. Certainly got loud with alot of bass. My buddy has now progressed with this hobby. The Yamaha pre was the first order of elimination. As many of us my friend is on a budget. After some searching a decision was made on a Yaqin pre amp. I was skeptical being a strictly SS man but gave the go ahead given the cost. He wants to go all tubes eventually. Again long story, this man has the bug, hook, line and sinker... The Yaqin arrived. At less than $300 for a new tube pre! WOW! to say the least. Given it does not have all the bells and whistles it certainly chimes for good tunes. Paired with the Cornwalls and the Adcom, marked improvement. Given my limited Yaquin (my pronunce) introductions, two thumbs up. Budget minded not cheap... As I mentioned I stumbled upon Klipsch. Once that happened I became fanatic. I wanted to know all there is to know about this U.S. made product. This brings us to CraigsList. Another friend of mine HEARD what was happening in my home and wanted a slice of his own. The search was on. Found, Forte II @ $400. What we found was a pair of Forte's in near mint and gave $325 for. Now this friend has a very big listening room and I have to tell you the Speakers fill the room. All wood construction, 2nd floor, probably close to 2000 sq. ft. I am amazed as well as he is delighted the the Forte II. THE HERITAGE LINE IS AMAZING!!! So welcome aboard my friend and Keep on Rockin' []
  18. Good evening, I have the opportunity to obtain a pair of Paradigm PW-2200 subs for very little cost. I am currently running a pair of Velodyne Impact-12's. I am curious if there will be a marked improvement with the Paradigms. It seems both subs are very comparable in their specifications. I would replace the Velodyne's with the two Paradigm not add them. Thanks, Matt
  19. Thanks Dennie, good to see you as well. I thought I had seen something very similar here recently. Something one of the members had re-finished. It had the same feet and the plate underneath it. I am going to try to call again in the morning. The same person also had a pair of "Vintage Acculab floor speakers" listed for $100. That certainly brought back some memories of yesteryear. They were the same model of my very first pair of loudspeakers. Oh my gosh, I am getting old Matt
  20. I think I have seen one of these on the forum before. Could someone please help me identify and give any technical information. I tried to call with no luck so will wait until tomorrow to try them again. In the meantime, the curiosity is driving me nuts. Thanks http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/ele/2207000725.html
  21. A friend of mine uses a Macbook to control his tube pre/cornwalls and music selections. It is not wireless but possibly the same idea? He has his volume set on the pre to the upper end and controls it through the application. It provides him with quick access to his music and volume control. I think he is just using a simple program like Windows Media Player for storage and control. Diminished sound quality with this set up? That I dont know. It would be my guess his system does not sound as good as it would through a quality CD player but he is happy with it. Personally I prefer the old fasioned single tray disc. I have seen others write on here about great storage devices, I am sure someone will chime in soon.
  22. Monkeybrains, Welcome to the Forum. I am running my 7's bi-amped. The jumpers between HF and LF must be removed. In my current setup, I am running a Yamaha amp (250 wpc) to the LF woofers. To the HF, the horns, I am using a small Rotel amp (50 wpc). The reason I did this was to, for lack of a better term, "tame" the horns a bit. The end result has been very pleasurable. A much warmer sound if you will. I agree with Dennie, you are not going to notice a drastic difference if you were to bi-amp with the two NAD's you mentioned. They are just too closely matched in power output. Before I bought the Yamaha, I had been running an Adcom amp that put out 125 wpc. I was blown away with excitement with the additional wattage. A bigger amp behind those 7's will blow your shirt off. Go bigger my friend... Keep on Rockin'
