  1. Craig, I knew it wouldn't be long after you got back to the states that you would get an outlaw! When you get it hooked up, let me know how it sounds musically. Also, Ken Williams and I are driving to London tomorrow for the HI-FI show. Lots of eye candy, I'll get back with you on this. Congrats again on your outlaw.
  2. Prodj101, Thanks, the bottlehead is a great site, lots of info on how to start. Where can I purchase separate parts and the chasis/transformer being in England? I am not very mechanically inclined, can change a fan belt and basic work on a car but not credentials. How much soldering is involved, I do not have any equipment. What's the total cost of a nice-sounding beginners unit?
  3. Please post a reply once they arrive and you have them hooked up. I'm interested in the 25-31s too.
  4. At this moment I'm considering investing $800 - $1,000 into a preamp. Being overseas, it's difficult to look at anything besides solid state over the net; all of this talk about tube preamps for less with better sound has me thinking. Not knowing anything about tubes makes me apprehensive in sinking money into them. As a tube novice, what can I start off with to get my feet wet that sounds good and will not break the bank at the same time? What can I get for $300 or less. At this price I'm quite sure that the unit will not be brand new. I'm using a Denon CD player, a Yamaha MX-800 SS power amp and KLF 30s. I welcome your opinion. Thanks EE
  5. Interesting. Has anyone seen the new movie starring Denzel Washington, "John Q"? Talking about the ordinary working man trying to make a living. Not begging, not asking for a handout, able and willing to work but the system that's designed to help won't or can't help him. Sort of gives you a new perspective on things. I value the ordinary working man who does not have a college degree but yet hits the pavement everyone morning doing what he/she does to pay the bills and put food on the table. Then again, I have nothing against corporate america either. What I do have a problem with is the 18 and 19 year olds coming out of high school playing professional sports making millions of dollars a year. Overall, I know that all professional athletes are very good at what they do and they have practiced and sacrificed to get where they are at now. But, compare an average athletes salary to that of a High School Teacher with a Master's Degree, talking about a disparity in salary. I think that my high school Algebra teacher deserves more than $30,000 dollars a year. Look at the troops that are putting their lives on the line every day in Afghanistan and other parts of the world. I'm not complaining neither will any other GI because this comes with the oath that we've sworn to defend. Many of our elected officials say that military members earn too much as it is, as they continue to vote themselves hefty pay increases every few years. The average military person makes enough money to qualify for food stamps.

I've never heard of the amp but it is receiving glowing reviews in audio review; almost everyone gave it a 5 of 5, this could be good and it could be bad. Just wondering if anyone has one of these connected to Klipsch speakers. It is rated 125x2 at right around $1,000 bucks. If you have one or if you've researched this in the past please respond. Thanks EE

  8. Judging from the posts I see how a lot of you feel about God; just a question, what about eternity. If we only have hope in the tangible things of this life, what about the possibility of life after death. Does what one believe in this life have an affect on the after life?
  9. I picked up my KLF 30s brand new for $600. The BX had received a shipment from Germany and they were mis-marked. Earlier, a friend of mine bought his 30s for $369 a pair, brand new in the box at the same place. Of course, at this price he bought two pair and a pair of KLF 20s for a little less. In all he purchased two pair of KLF 30s and a pair of KLF 20s for less than $1,000, not bad huh.
  10. I'm mostly a two-channel listener now, I do not have a subwoofer to compare them with. I got rid of my sony processor for a yamaha preamp.
  11. Kain, Incorrect word choice, maybe, but to further answer his question; the 30s aren't too lacking in the bass department.
  12. Do not believe the negative hpye about the KLF 30s not having bass; believe me, they have plenty of slam.
  13. Mlstrass, The difference between using your 3802's amps and a separate amp to me is night and day. I was using a Sony receiver until about a month ago. Pushing the Sony to the 11 o'clock was far as I could get it without clipping, I was afraid of damaging my speakers. The amp I'm using is about 200 wpc and it makes the 30s sing. Now, I can turn the volume up without worrying about clipping, not too loud though because it runs me out of the room. I'm sure you have preouts on the 3802, look for a used amp and see if you like it. I bought mine from a friend and only paid 250 bucks for it to include a preamp. If nothing else you could sell it if you do not like it. EE
  14. I agree witht he positive posters about the 30s. I have had mine for over a year and the sound is wonderful. I do not know what type of music you listen to, but gospel music is almost "angelic" coming from the speakers. PUN intended. ee
  15. Boa12, Thanks for the lesson or should I say "word" in the audiophile vernacular. I like it, one thing the 30s have is plenty of "slam". Thanks EE
  16. CarlV, Hopefully, this will help you only if you have the dimensions of the KLF 30s themselves. I'm sorry but my boxes are up in the attic surrounded by a lot of fiberglass, and tonight I do not feel like playing with it. The boxes are about 3-4 taller than the speakers and 1-2 inches added on the sides. The side is a close fit though, I had to lay the boxes on the floor and pull the speaker out while my wife held the box. Hope this helps. EE
  17. bsacco, I'm not sure about the KGs but I have a pair of KLF 30s and I'm pleased with them. I'm void of the audiophile words to describe their sound but the sound is nice. With these speakers, I hear things in the music that I could not/did not hear before. It's not only the voice your listening to but also what goes on in the back ground. At 101 db they are very sensitive and you can drive them to loud levels very easily. Mine are mated with an older Yamaha MX-800 power amp and together they run me out of the house. Their two, 12-inch woofers give them a lot of punch/bass if that's what you are looking for. The music I listen to sounds great coming from my KLF 30s. If you can pick up a pair at a low price, get them, I think you'll like them. EE
  18. Originally posted in Home Theater by mistake I recently made a move to separates and I thoroughly enjoy the sound. Previously, I was using a Sony STR835 sound processor for music and to my untrained ear, it sounded good. With separates I've noticed that I do not get the floppy, lingering bass that I had with the receiver. The bass is still there but it's quick without the lingering effects. Actually, it took a while for me to get used to the sound. I think that the extra power of the amp has a tighter hold on the woofers, they do not move as much with the amp. I'm void of all the terms some use to describe the sound, but I can hear more of the background on music than I did before. Although both pieces of my equipment are old, I'm really impressed with the difference that I hear--in my case, separates are better. One very noticeable difference is the ability to crank the volume up without clipping. I had to be really careful with the Sony, it could not handle the increased volume. The MX-800 is a powerful amp, my ears give up before it does. The amp is a keeper, eventually I will purchase another preamp that does two-channel great justice with the option for home theater in the future. EE
  19. I posted this in the wrong forum, it has been moved over to 2-channel.

  21. Maybe it just mental for me, but I think that they sound better with the grills off. I have the KLF 30s and it's something about seeing the dual 12s, horns and tweeters that enhances the sound. Like Moon, I have little ones around the house, so the grills only come off when they are tucked away in their beds asleep. I've cleaned enough stains and hand prints off the grills already. My 2-year old daughter and I have had several run-ins about her hitting and pressing the grills. Not to mention the hole at the top of the speakers that's a great place to drop small objects. EE
  22. Mobile, I have heard a lot about tube amps on this and other forums, but to be honest with you, I wouldn't know where to start. Can you recommend some sites to quench my thirst to learn more about them? The debate between tubes and solid states is debated as much as speaker cables. What price range does a decent tube amp start at? Can I use this in conjuction with a HT setup? The tube amps that people have mentioned are only about 50 wpc, what will this do for my KLF 30s musically that a 250 wpc solid state can't? Lots of questions but I want to know, I'm not trying to get you going. EE
  23. Gamer, Congrats on the new purchase and enjoyment of your amp. I've been going around and around pondering what amp to purchase. I've looked at the two-channel Bryston (power and longevity to include 20 warranty) and the B&K 2220. My concern is with my KLF 30s at 100+ db would those be too much power. What type speakers are you using with your amp? For the price that you paid for it, it will be really hard to let that deal get away. EE
  24. Besides Audiogon where else can I go to purchase some good used AMPS? I want to enquire about a B&K 2200 but I have never seen these at audiogon. The 7-channel B&Ks are very prevalent though. Thanks EE
  25. Thanks, My plans are to purchase the yamaha if he decides to sell it, later on I want to purchase a new one. I've heard good things about the B&Ks, especially the 2220 and the price isn't that bad either.
