  1. Awesome. A not-entirely-too-expensive fix.

  3. I belive it's a rebadged 1603 or 1803 (probably 1603). Compare the specs and you can see which one it is. I believe some members have these units.

On the one hand I miss it but on the other I do not miss the nastiness that was virtually pervasive at times. Lest anyone smell a bit of hypocricy here I freely admit to having gotten nasty ( particularly with ForrestHump) on occasion and take no pride in having allowed myself to be goaded into speaking in an ungentlemanly manner. Would it be possible for General Questions to become a scrutinised area ? By that I mean that one of our members would become the moderator and would "vet" all posts before they were seen . I suggest that a member moderate rather than the webmaster because the webmaster surely has many other far more important duties and Klipsch LLC. hardly needs to spend money for him/her to babysit us. In any event the webmaster would have carte blanche to overule the "Moderator." One of the ground rules might be that in the event that Le Merde appears very likely to strike Les Blades Whirling in a major way it would be incumbent on the Moderator to consult with the webmaster via email. Just a suggestion. ---------------- I agree. On other boards I frequent, it is some of our peers who are moderators. They come and go over time, but the administrators always seem to pick the best replacements. Also, over the years I've noticed that banning a username isn't very effective, but banning an IP is quite a deterrant. Something to think about.
  5. If Heresies are out of your budget, 6 KG-4's would do the trick. They usually go for $200-250/pair on ebay. I'm slowly working my way towards this option as we speak.
  6. Why not buy m00n's H/K 520 for $400?
  7. Good deal. I miss UE. There was one up in Moline where my parents used to live. Very cool store. The closest we have here is Brandsmart, which carries a few more higher end products, but isn't nearly as big.
  8. They are stereo receivers. Why not keep the Sony for HT, and run H/K as an amp for the mains. You get better 2 channel playback and still get to keep your Sony for HT.
  9. If the Sony doesn't get loud enough, the others won't either. I think the sound quality would be better with a different receiver, but louder? No. In my experiences with my equipment, I was a little disappointed with my Denon's 2-channel playback. HT is superb, but it lacks umph when playing music. Others on the forum gave the H/K's good recommendations for 2-channel so I bought one. I'm glad I did. Best $70 I've spent in awhile. It's worth a shot, much cheaper than getting a new receiver that you might be as disapponted with as well. The H/K's come up on eBay pretty often, but there aren't any right now.
  10. Try moving it around. Placement is critical.
  11. If you want some good 2-channel playback, get one of the H/K's in my sig. They generally go for $40-70 on eBay. I don't use my Denon for 2-channel any more, the H/K's are that much better.
  12. It looks damned good. I'm a tad bit jealous. I'm still trying to get up the nerve to refinish one of my KG-4's.
  13. Sorry no one replied to your post. I'll try to help. Using In-Wall speakers in your ceiling is a bad idea. Say you are listening to a movie in 5.1, and a car in the movie drives past the camera to your right. What you will hear is the car moving from the center to the right main to the right surround. If the surrounds are above you, it will sound as if the car took flight as it got beside you. That won't sound right. Using In-Wall speakers would be your best bet. Having them at different distances won't be a problem either. If you have any receiver made in the last 3-4 years it should have the ability to delay output from any speaker to accomodate for different speaker positions in oddly shaped rooms. My Denon allows me to change the delay on the surrounds and it's nearly 4 years old. As a matter of fact, my left surround is 2 feet closer than my right, so I adjusted the delay and it sounds just right to me. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, just ask.
  14. Using Klipschorns as surrounds? IMO, I would do anything possible to make them mains. Rearrange the room, or move to another room. If you want a matched system, you're going to have to go with heritage all the way around. The problem here is that: 1) It will be very expensive, but more importantly, 2) It sounds like you have space limitations and as we all know heritage are rather large speakers. I'm sure someone with a heritage based HT will chime in. They could probably help you better than I.
  15. Saving Private Ryan of course!
  16. If you get on a hill with someone behind you and are scared you will hit them, pull up the emergency brake (not all the way, just a click) while using the clutch/gas to get started. Put brake down and drive off.

I'm thinking that this hum might be a grounding problem due to the pins not connecting the ground, using some decently shielded rca cables might fix the hum issue. Propably the shorter the cable the better. ---------------- That sounds like a plan. Thanks.

You can also use RCA cables but jumper them exactly like the pins. Those jacks are so you can use the pre amp and power amp independently. So for instance if the 430 has them you can use the pre amp section on it and run it through the power amp section on the 630. Or you can run an outboard amp and use the 630 as strictly a preamp by removing the pins and connect the pre out jacks to the inputs on a power amp. Hope this explains it. ---------------- Excellent explanation. Thanks. Now, how to get rid of the hum that accompanies it....
  19. I agree. Hey, I'd be willing to moderate it. plug>
  20. Hmmm, odd. Got no sound just now from my 630. Put the U jacks back in and I get music, but alas the hum returns. What are these things for? Why does it need them?
  21. Just got my 430 today. Needed lots of TLC. Had cobwebs inside and a little pitting on the metal, nothing severe though. Cleaned it out real good. You could eat out of the 630 when I first received it. Front of both are nearly identical, with the exception of the ability to adjust both bass and treble between left and right speakers on the 630. Pretty nifty feature for those with awkward rooms like mine. Rear on the 630 has these odd screw type connectors for speakers. I had to go back to zipcord to hook up speakers. Very small spades might fit, but I need to order those. Curled bare wire around them and turned them down tight. Not an easy task mind you. I was scared the wires might cross, they're that close together. 430 was much easier. Simple spring loaded clips. Will easily accomodate my Z series cables. 630 has 8 extra jacks in the back: L/R Pre Amp in, L/R Main Amp out, L/R FM Dolby in, L/R FM Dolby out I have no idea what the last 2 are for (I was born in the 80's, give me a break ) The main and pre's had these 2 metal U pieces connecting them. It's a good thing I just pulled them out, it took away that nasty hum I was hearing!!!!!! Glad I caught that before I went tearing through the system trying to find out the problem. Anyone know why these were there? I have 2 pairs of KG-4's, so tonight or tomorrow I'll have a soundoff between the 2. BTW, the 430 was $45 and the 630 was $67. Bargains in my book.
  22. There's LaScalas for sale in the KC star if you're interested. Congrats on the Heresies.
  23. http://classifieds.kansascity.com/kcs/home/merchandise_services/electronics/all_others/showad.html?category=electr&adPrintId=22758155 Saw it in the classifieds. Thoguht I'd let yall know.
  24. KG-1,1.2,1.5 would work for rears if on a space limited budget.
