  1. They do infact skibum they are actually little integrated amps designed for bookshelf speakers or HT zones.
  2. Depending on condition yes, I paid $400 for mine but they saw a fairly hard life cosmetically. No, but you'll get more bass if you do. Yeah seems like it would play well with tubes, I enjoyed tube's on mine before going to Jubscalas Mod's generally will not net you much if you have the stock items I'd replace them and sell the mod's seperately for the most bucks. I've seen stock KG4's go for around $150-300 depending on condition etc on craigslist at least where I live, Michigan.
  3. Correct it's not Class D as far as I can tell, that said I've already been down the tube path(quicksilver preamp, done to the 9's updated st-70, and it was better but by a small amount, honestly I think the active crossover has more to do with the sound on a jub then nearly anything else, once I left the dx-38 for crowns I was never really happy until I switched back. Now that I moved the crowns completely out I am liking what I hearing from the emotivas strangely they also seem to have better bass control, much higher gain, and less line hum. Yeah they are $200 amps so I'm not expecting the be all end all but so far they commit less sins then the crowns and they certianly are near the ballpark of the tubes I've had before, I think this is a very nifty amp for the money and would be a solid choice for a limited budget on high efficeincy horns. Still burning them in so we'll see how it goes. Using the units as power amps I do not need to move my preamp volume past 9 to drive me from the room, I'm sure the W4S are nice I've had the change to mess around with a Pioneer SC-35 which also uses ICE, and it was nifty. Still I hear the need for 100's of watts a lot here, and frankly I don't get it, maybe you all have huge listening room but I listen about 13 feet back in a medium/small room I honestly do not believe I'm ever using more then a few watts at full blast with all my gear on my wall draw according to my belkin is like .6amps I have used everything from a 2-3watt el84 to a 275watt pro amp on these things and with the exception of the el84 and a 10watt tripath I've never found my power limited and compressed for my listening levels. Any way here is a pic of the cute little buggers.
  4. As a preface I had been using crown xti's with my jubscala and tried to sell my DX-38 but for whatever reason those units are not moving on the bay right now so like the good nuerotic tweaker that I am I started using the dx38 agian and moved the crowns back into power amps, well the dx38 sounds plain better doing the crossover work to my ears, and since the crowns seem to always find a buying I'm now in the market for two new amps on the cheap and cheerful side. I had my heart set on a pair of Virtue audio ONE.2's but Virtue seems to be taking a break or DOA or something no stock no updates in months.Low and behold though emotive drops this little gem. http://emotiva.com/a100.shtm looks like an interesting very well build little guy that would serve my purposes just fine. HAs anyone bought one yet or is planning on it, looks like it would work well with the Heritage crowd or as a nice bedroom/office amp and looks very nicely done for less then a lot of folks monthly heating bills. As it stands there is not a bunch of info about it yet, I think it's almsot sure to be some form of Class D chip amp, but some of those have been very highly reviewed. Audioholics has a preview up http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/amplifiers/emotiva-mini-x-a-100-pre
  5. Not sure if everyone caught the fact he already has spare fastracks, k55's, and k77s. Really he is looking at $300ish bucks for a new woofer or less for used, $200 for crossovers, then plywood and time, sure veneer can get pricey but he could just as easily finish the speakers in black. I mean given the fact you could sell those parts and have dang near a free cornwall thats soemthing to consider, but I really think you'll love a cornscala, plus it's a nice thing to sit and listen to speaker you built yourself.
  6. I helped build a pair of cornscala from my old la scala parts for a friend of mine and they sound great, I think if you have the space do it, I bet they would sound awesome with the fastrack horns. It is a fairly easy speaker to build, and I think getting pair of CII would be a stepdown in the midrange from the fastracks. I vote cornscalas. Also on a side note, I don't know where in Michigan you are located but if it's anywhere near the tri-cities you're more then welcome to check out my pair of jubescala's(k402,ported bassbin, crite's castframe woofer, crown xti's) and while I can't talk for him Bob in Baycity was more then happy to let me listen to his jubilees, which let me down this path to begin with. Oh boy now I sound like Coytee.
  7. So I have been messing about with my xti's which are set up basically using near the same settings as a dx38, some exceptions being I cannot enter Q info for input eq points and I am doing the Low and high shelf filters on input eq as opposed to output, I have since bought wrinkles old xti's and his settings are WAY different(different Xover point and filters, different peqs, only input eq, etc), doing amp to amp on each speaker is very telling, under my interpitation of the dx38 settings I appear to have better highs, better lows, but it seems I have a fairly serious midrange suckout versus Wrinkles settings, I am currently trying a combination of both and going with wrinkles xover filter and point versus the dx settings. What I want to know is, are there any documents of the XTI settings for a 402 horn/la scala bin? Also my basebins have crites cast frames and are ported, so I run a HP 12db butterworth around 38hz to protect the woofer, and I am running the bassbins at +6db to make up for the efficeincy lose in porting. If anyone has any experience in the XTI's and jub's I'd love to hear your input. Thanks-Kevin
  8. I'm on the prowl for an Integra DTC 9.8 for the same reasons Coytee, all xlr, plus the 9.8 has audysseyXT, not sure if it would be useful to you but I'm soemwhat excited to try it as I've read alot of good things. Also if you feel like taking chance emotivas UMC replacement this year will have all xlr and be around $1000 new. But emotivas track record of bugginess on release might not be so great. EDIT: Both the onkyo and the intetgra have the same audyssey, my bad , they are essentially the same.
  9. Very clean install, I love the look of your flared ports I'm using just PVC atm but I might eventually switch them out, I haven't notice any real weirdness in mine either and they are cut to 4"x7.25", My box is ported to the front as I only use the LS bins now, but the results where definately noticable, running frequnecy sweeps I have good loud sound down to around 40hz before the drop off.
  10. Just a quick question, I have sinced switched from my dx38 to crowns and I've pretty much winged it from the dx settings and the sound is good(to my tin ear), but I've seen mention somethings are different between the settings can anyone confirm/deny or send me the settings? Thanks a ton.
  11. As far as eqiupment I'm a complete newbie to this, I figured I could get some bassline info from the few forum members who have experimented with the bmd750 of the p4525 horns, after that I have an "Ok" microphone, I figured I could find some sort of software to measure and fine tune the xti's after that. I'm simply trying to find a way that I could build a system that would have close timbre match to my jubescalas and figured the heresy bin and these horn/drivers would be a relatively economical way of doing so, I also figured as the heresey woofer/bin goes to 700hz if would be an easier mating point then trying to make those horns try go down to a 400-600hz cutoff like a la scala/cornwall bass bin. As far as the frequency cut off on the surrounds 80hz would be fine by me the fronts will provide the most sound anyway along with some sub reinforcement for the bottom end. Any suggestions software wise would be great, and perhaps something other then a"Ok" usb mic for testing. Also is the setting information for running jubescalas on the crowns readily available as I believe I'll pick 2 crowns up to see if I can live with that versus my dx38 before moving forward, becuase if it works for me without losing too much sound quality, then I could sell all my electronic gear and fund most of this project outright. Thanks agian
  12. Michigan, No I haven't purchased the k22 yet, and I'd consider anything so longer as it was relatively cheap to build and matched up soundwise to the jubescala at an exceptable level. I'm noteven sureI'd do this just bunching ideas around at this point.
  13. Hi all So I have been loving my jubescala for the better part of a month and just received a pioneer 1018 for free from a friend who upgraded, this has got me thinking all kinds of terrible thoughts as it has a whole panel of pre-outs and is a pretty flashy unit for a mid range receiver, it even sounds good feeding into my current pre-amp just in experimenting. Now while I know big Jubilee home theaters have use the jubescala for surrounds, I'm just not in that tax bracket yet. I was wondering if I couldn't build something of a good timbre match with some home build k22 bass boxes, with p.audio bmd750(k69) mounted on the affordable P4525 or goldwood clones. Grant I know these are not as good as the k510, but as simple surround I figure they would not need to be quite as good so long as the overall all timbre would be a decent match. No going this route I'm considering outboarding from the pioneer to a stack of 6 crown xti1000's. I'm currently using a dx38 set up in 2 channel but the cost again would be a bit too much for me, not to mention if the xti are decent my dx38, amps, and pre would fund a good 1/2-2/3 of the entire project. So my questions are as follows. 1. How does a crown xti powered jubescala sounds has any one dealt with both that and a dx38 bi-amped and can shed some light? I suppose even those who have heard/used both on full on jubilee would also be useful. 2. Those that have played with the k69 on p4525/goldwood horns, how do they preform, would they make a good timbre match with k402/k69? 3. Given the differences in efficiency between Heresy bass bins and the horn/driver can the xti attenuate them well enough to get a good match? It would seem they would be easier on the horns as they go out to 700hz on the woofers in their stock form. 4. Total bone head/noob question but does anyone know how much smaller I'd need to make the heresy bins as they would have no horns inside them taking up space? Has any one played around with the idea, is it dumb, am I crazy, should I just save my pennies and dream?
  14. Pretty standard jubscala, active with a Ev dx38, crossed at 470hz, quit a bit of eq as per Roy's information, trying by memory but a boost at 88hz, cut at 148 for cab resonance, boost at 380 I think, and -3db cut at near 40(currently trying 36hz), as per Dr.Who to not let woofer excursion get out of control after the porting. I cut a mirror of the woofer access into the top box, sealed the back with 3/4th ply and mounted spade connectors on the back for hook up. I then removes the motorboard and replaced with a piece of ply with 4" diameter 7" lenth PVC for the ports, I went this route because of posible phase issues with porting to the rear. My scala are beaters to begin with so I wasn't so Leary about surgery, I still plan to woodputty chips and repaint them black , but that's another weekend with warmer weather as far as drivers, a standard k69(p.audio bmd-750) and massive k402 horns from the jubilee. I had to grind tiny bit off each side of the crites woofers to get them in but they fit nice and tight. I lack the tools for accurate testing but using a frequency test track I now have alarge amount of sound starting around the mid 30hz range, which is fairly acceptable for me and better than they were before and certainly louder in that lower range. The most revealing thing is how shockingly forceful the bass bins are at loud volumes I now fear for my shutters:) I'm a fellow Michigander Diz I live in the thumb near Bay City currently but I'm house hunting in the Birch run/Frankenmuth area if you haven't had a chance to hear a Jubilee or Jubescala you should make the drive up one of these days, I obviously have the jubescalas but Bob in bay city has full pair of jubilee with k510 horns and Passover built by Roy I believe, I won't speaker for Bob but he was open to auditioning to me which led me down this crazy path, I'd be happy to audition the jubescalas and I could try and get you in contact with Bpb if interested as well. Oh jeez now I'm sounding like Coytee:) either way offers always on the table just shoot me a pm.
  15. I just finished installing Bob's cast frame woofers and ported my la scala bassbins for my jubescalas this weekend, Sounds good to me so far.
  16. PM sent, I'll try and get them out of my la scala tonight and get you a few pics.
  17. Enjoy the khorns I bet they will sound wonderful. Quick side question what Ducati is your bike of choice? I've owned a 99 monster 750, a 00 Supersport 900, and a 01 748 that I had bored out to a 853 with a full termi system. Currently bikeless and most likely safer but I love Italian bikes.
  18. If you are interested I jsut upgraded to jubescala's and I have a spare set of BEC's A/4500and CT125, that have only been used for like 6 months. I'd cut ya a deal PM me if interested.
  19. More pics here-> http://www.flickr.com/photos/61293192@N08/ Impressions: Just the fact's Ma'am. The soundstage is huge. The mild brain drill/horn honk that the la scalas had from time to time, is pretty much gone. Vocals, man this entire upgrade frenzy was in a way started by my father who recently purchased a pair of Paradigm signature s2v.3's, which are, if you've never heard them, some very serious bookshelves. The Paradigms in a lot of ways showed me what I was blissfully ignorant of missing at least in terms of mid/hirange clarity and smoothness. Now I'm not sure if it is the horn, the driver, or both but the vocals are so much better now especially female singers. Going active rocks! Seriously I'm running nice beefy SS down, and wonderful tube's up top, the combo sound to my ear awesome, the scala still aren't the deepest speakers in the world but they certianly have slam, and Roy's eq settings have dealt with the annoying 150Hz bassbin buzz that made harder rock almost unbearable to play on this system. They just feel effortless, less ear strain, somewhat less picky about types of music, and freaking huge sounding. Very happy so far, I'll be posting up some A/4500 and ct125's on the garage sale in the near future. These horn's are pure awesome, I hadn't realised that even hearing Bob's Jubilee, which are still and awesome speaker and a great peice of history as his are running the 510, on the BC drivers(prototype k69?) with passive built by Roy I think. But I feel the k402 is leaps ahead of the 510 and worth the cash, maybe I'll have to haul my gear over to Bob's and do some A/B with the 402/510-active/passive, though I'm sure his wife would not approve [] Next on the agenda ported bass bin, some wood putty, and a fresh coat of black paint on my rough la scala. Maybe a bigger house, LOL.
  20. Nope just slept in on my day off, I was up until around 4am listening though. Running a 200hz(couldn't find 250hz) tone from a strereophile test cd on loop through the k69's right now while I enjoy my coffee and wake up a bit. I get the GF's camera out soemtime today and take some better pictures then my cellphone would.
  21. Damn you Coytee, your Jubilee evangelism has claimed another soul, as I sit here listening with this big dumb grin I can only say I had no idea what I was missing with my la scalas. Thanks also to Bob who kindly allowed me to hear his Jubilees a year or so back, which where a blast but I'm glad I went for the 402. These ugly monsters are just effortless, can't wait for morning so I can turn them up and see what they are really made of. Awesome. Also thanks to Roy, you have done amazing work to make this a reality.
  22. OH YEAH! Truck driver just called, the horns will be here in around an hour.
  23. Plug and play it is, been sitting here listening to this monster while I wait the truck, tbh it doesn't sound half bad once I got the bass bin dailed down enough to match.
  24. So is this hooked up in the dx38 food chain or just directly connected to one of my amps? Relative stereo noob so forgive my ignorence.
