All connections are done with Banana plugs (havy duty 24K gold plating --> http://www.in-akustik.com/Monitor/2001/images/008147.jpg) - self made speaker stand for RC-3. 12% inclination and weighs 45kg (100lbs). enjoy the pictures! ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Pioneer VSX-909RDS DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  2. Hey Big Bean, Take a look at my post: http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000254.html You will see there the horn of one of my RF-3's. A compression driver and a horn!!!! How they compare ??? BobG? ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Pioneer VSX-909RDS DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  3. Shielding in speakers is done so that the speaker magnets don't influance the image of the TV, not the other way around. In klipsch speaker the magnets are only shielded. Interference from TV signals to the cross-over can still occure. You will hear this interference even when the speaker is disconnected!! The only thing you can do is shielding the TV or the speaker with aluminum foil internally, if you can 't put the center at a different place. Had the same problem untill the RPTV. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  4. Ok, your speakers are not that sensitive but still. Set the amp in direct mode (you probably did that already) Has your CD player any level control?? Does the sony have an impedance selector?? Set it to 8Ohms. If this is the problem, definitly return it if you can. impedance selectors (on most receivers)just let you know that the amp can't deliver enough power for some speakers. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  5. mcqueene, I use 4 RF-3's, so 1 pair for surround. My opinion is that placing sound and ambient sound is something that is in the sound itself or created by DSP modes. I have a CD that can deliver placed sounds and ambient sound that you would never expect in a stereo system (2 channel). Ok, dipoles add more ambient effect, but they are useless for 5 channel stereo. The benefit is also the almost perfect match in speakers. I think that THX is also planning to leave the dipole speakers and use normal speakers for surrounds. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  6. Hey Bitterhops, I used cat5 FTP cable for internal wire in my RF-3's Check out my post: http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000254.html I also use this cable as external wire. Happy braiding ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  7. quote: Originally posted by BobG: The quality of crossover components is the same. So the quality is the same. What is the "quality" of the cross-overs. Can you have better components on the crossover that will make a difference in sound. For e.g. Is the quality in crossover used in the klipschorn better (probably #$^$%^@). Is there a cross-over plan with all the components and there values available for the RF-3's (BobG????). I just want to learn how it all fits together. I have the plan already drawn, but still some values are missing. Just to verify my calculations, it would be very nice to have those values (if possible). ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  8. Well, klipschers. I just want to know if pioneer amps are a good match for the reference speakers. Anyone with a pioneer receiver???? ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  9. I bought the SKC07530 toslink of 10m at www.cableworld.de for about $30. It connects my hercules fortissimo II sound card to my receiver without any problems. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  10. Try to get the RF-3's as far you can from everything else. That is wall's, TV, Furniture,... . Mine are 40 " from the back wall, 30" from the side wall and 20" from the TV. The fronts are also placed (just a little) before the TV ,so that no sound is reflected by the TV. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  11. Is it on all your DVD's? Some DVD's can be noisy. Did a test myself. I have the pioneer DV-525 and the DVD disc X-Men can be noisy at the start of the movie. I had to know if it was my DVD-player so I tried it on the DV-717 of pioneer with the same results. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  12. Since I became a crazy poster, I will start a new thread. Well, what do you all think of this receiver to replace my (great) onkyo 676? I just want to taste of the thx ,that is THX ULTRA. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  13. Dome, It 's a great receiver. I did have the chance to test a 696 for DPL II, but still got the 676. DPL II was not worth the upgrade. I also didn't like the bass/Treble pots on the front. The 676 does this digital. Not that I use it, it is always set neutral, but I don't like bass/Treble button's on any amp. I have just one problem with the receiver. The remote just won't let me program the function of my Thomson RPTV. WOW, did you notice: I became crazy poster !!!!! ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  14. Thx PhilH to make this clear. Probably I will hear the difference but the price to. Maybe I will do also some experiments with the cross-over. Changing internal cables is already a succes. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP

  18. Buy the RF-3 and change the wire your self!!! unless you like the cosmetic upgrades. See my RF tweaked post: http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000254.html Hey, interesting. Can you audition both side by side at the store?? Do you hear a difference???? Just to know how the monster Z-series add any difference. My FTP cable does. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  19. A college at work has the nautilus 803 hooked up to the denon 5800(europe version) and the fan's never turn on he said. Hey TheEAR, don't you have a problem not using the amps in the 5800. You paid for them so ... . Maybe you can do bi-amping. Use the amps of the 5800 for the highs and the other amps for the lows. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  20. Yep, this is very interesting. I did a litle research on the net and find out that the tweeter driver and horn are different. In the RF-3(II) they use the K-105-K 1" (2.54cm) Titanium dome compression driver with a 6" square 90°x60° Tractrix® Horn. The RF-5 uses on the other hand the K-119-KB 1" (2.54cm) Titanium dome compression driver with a 8" square 90°x60° Tractrix® Horn. Also the cross-over would be different because the HIGH FREQUENCY CROSSOVER is 1975Hz for RF-3 and 2500 Hz for RF-5. This would mean that the frequency range of the horn is limited at the botom!! The woofers which are indentical to the RF-3 are extended in frequency range up to the 2500 Hz. This is weird sience??????? Why changing something that have to do less. What is the reason to set the crossover to 2500 Hz. Is the 1975Hz to critical for the horns and is it better produced via the woofers. Klipsch rep's: some answers here!!!! ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  21. It is not the quality that count's with the description of a home theater. The quality and how it sounds is another issue. Well I gave the description of a home theater from an architectural point of view. The 36" I mentioned is a relative measurement. It depends how far you are seated, but a large picture is needed to capture all the details in the movie. And also a big sound can't be without a big pictures. From a performance point of view it would require a more detailed description. Maybe THX can fill this in. But in the end it has to be as TheEAR describes it. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP
  22. Yep, The denon is better build. The construction of the onkyo forces them to use a fan which can be noisy. (Every fan is noisy) The design of the denon is better to cool the heatsinks at each side of the denon. The fan's inside them never run's. Any comment from TheEAR ?? If I 'm willing to spend the money, my onkyo 676 is send to the bathroom. ------------------ ------------------------- Receiver: Onkyo 676 DVD: Pioneer DV-525 Screen: Thomson 46" RetroProjection Front: RF-3 tFTP Rear: RF-3 tFTP Center: RC-3 tFTP

  24. Very nice, It's not only the sound that count's. The eyes want something to. Yep, black is the way to go.
