Thanks ClaudeJ1. Good to know about the TADs. I do use the small amps typically in the living room but not in the HT. Have to give that some thought. Stormy rainy Saturday tomorrow. I should have time to install these and begin configuring. I'll use the woofers they came with (K48 equivalent?) carefully resealing them with new screws and foam weatherstripping. Any testing of the drivers I should do first?

Might work nicely in the living room especially to get the horn down toward ear level but...

Ah! thanks Marvel. Maybe another driver then since I'll be crossing this quite low to the K402 with the TADs, right? It won't have to go up >500Hz to meet a smaller horn/driver even if it's more capable to do that than the Khorn bass bin for example. I'm assuming it's better to keep more mid bass in the big horn/CD than in the folded wood. Recommendations for alternate woofers?

The evidence is that it's the same as a K48: https://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=hug&m=145503 "I emailed Eminence about 15677 years ago and was told it is the K-48-E woofer with Fs 42 hz, qt.35, vas 166 liters, 97udb 1w/1m and 4 ohm impedance" Not sure if this K-48 equivalent is a good match for FH-1. Interesting post from a few years ago by Moray James makes me want to look for JBL 2226H

I'm loving 402s with the Khorn bass bins in my living room so how to get that amazing horn into my basement HT... When an old pair of Peavey FH1s came up not far away on CL I jumped especially when the seller described them as having replacement Klipsch woofers. Can anyone help me id these?

Hey Chris. They're too ugly for the living room probably. I have to draw the line somewhere 😀. Was thinking to try them in the HT with a new set of K402s that are arriving tomorrow. I just opened them up and luckily didn't find any critter nests, etc. Somebody put Klipsch 4 ohm drivers in them at some point but neglected to seal one back up properly. Overall they appear whole despite their 1978 vintage.

This blending of K402s and horn bass might get addictive. Peavey FH1s in da house!

Thanks babadono. Neat work. A 2nd pair of K402s will be arriving for me to try out my TADs on. The BMS 4592s are sounding so good on the first set I'm reluctant to take them off!

Curious what you find appealing about the Harbeth sound as I've just gone in the opposite direction to bigger Pro Klipsch - K402. Maybe PM if this would derail your sale thread?

The driver in mine btw is the Dayton RSS390 HF4 rated at 500w RMS

I run a Marantz MA700 200w monoblock on my Tuba HT LP corner loaded in my 350 sq foot living room for both movies and music with good results. But, I've yet to really dial it in below my new JubeKhorns with a MiniDSP 2x4 HD I bought for the purpose. We'll see if it's enough soon.

And the best news is that you don't even have to deal with these boxes to get this upgrade. Anyone can buy the K402 horns with K691 drivers and base/stands and do this! I'm glad I went this way because I'll find another use for the boxes, but, it's surprisingly easy to do this relatively inexpensively without them.

Yeah, too big for the Khorn bass bins. I'm thinking they may get used down in the mancave/HT if I can get another set of 402s. They would be killer L and R behind my AT 140" scope screen either on top of some other bass bins or (dare I hope) converted to MEH!!

Tri-amping at the moment is VTL TT monoblocks in triode mode on the bass bins, FirstWatt SIT2 on the mids and a cheapy Trends 10.2 integrated on the tweets. Preamp duty is with my trusty NuForce AVP16 recently retired from the HT in favor of the Anthem AVM60. Sources include an Oppo 103D, AudioQuest DragonFly 1.2 from a MacPro (mostly playing Tidal) and if I get a notion for digging out some of my old vinyl a Basis 1200 TT. I'm getting ready to build a pair of the AmpCamp 1.6 kits so those will get mixed in if I'm successful (first amp build and no longer very steady hands...)

Hookup of the Xilica 4080 was basic also once I confirmed that it goes between the pre/pro and amps and obtained the balanced to SE adapters - 2 RCA female to XLR female for the inputs and 6 XLR male to RCA female for the outputs. Sourced these locally at Guitar Center. ChrisA then made the programming/tuning easy by providing his initial settings for the Xilica based on his testing of the BMS driver on his MEH. What a great guy and resource to the community that he then went back and forth with me numerous times in email getting the UMIK-1 mic placement and floor padding correct then patiently through 5 iterative rounds of measuring, analyzing, changing and measuring again. I'm pretty computer literate so the basics of REW and Xconsole came easily to me but without Chris I'd be lost when it came to analyzing what I had measured and knowing what to adjust.

Disassembly of the 305s was straightforward except the horn wouldn't come loose once all fasteners were removed. I let them sit for 1 hour and the factory seal must have relaxed since then they could be removed by reaching into the front and pulling by the input hole. Mounting the 402s on the bass bin wasn't too tough once I realized that the tweeter baffles/stands I made for the K77s were the right height to support the horn/driver and tilt the horn slightly down to compensate for the 52" on center height vs. more around 30" which would be better for my 13' LP/ear height. Ordinary clamps work well to hold the lip against the bin step temporarily.

Now if I can just get Klipsch to sell me the 402 base/stands I could secure them and fine tune the aiming.😁

Xovers which came with BMS drivers may be used in future.

I thought at first that the 305s were about 145lbs each but that's probably the weight of the pair. These are big and bulky but not too heavy for two capable people and not bad to wrestle around by myself once the horn was removed.

Thought this might be interesting. Mark F who sold me the 305s and BMS drivers suggested this thread since not many have tried this. I've enjoyed 1990 Khorns modded with Eliptrac mids and ALK universal xovers for some years now, but, have been salivating over the K402 horn. I only recently found out that the midbass KPT-305s use a K402 so when I saw Mark F (Mark1101) was selling a pair I had to have them and find a way to ship from GA to MA. uShip turned out to be a good way to get small freight carriers to notice my need and I lucked out with a independent 1 man with a truck and great communication/help from Mark F to make it happen. Big thanks upfront to ChrisA for making this possible with great support for this first time active xover guy. Chris happened to be testing the BMS 4592 coax on his MEH 402 just as I was needing those settings. How cool is that?

Two different things entirely is perhaps what you meant to say. This has been my experience also. It is possible and very desirable to focus one's system audibly almost like one focuses a lens visibly. If it's my goal to have optimum focus for 1 listening position for both 2 channel and multichannel (music and soundtracks with video), I don't see why this isn't possible as long as the presence of the additional equipment in the room doesn't compromise the 2 channel experience. In other words as long as the presence of the additional speakers, projector and especially screen don't limit the ability to achieve excellent 2 channel sound-field presence, continuity, depth, envelopment etc. and don't limit the the ability to achieve excellent 2 channel image focus. I've learned that the presence, position, symmetry and absorbant, reflective, diffusive qualities of objects in the room should not be underestimated.
