  1. You also may want to check out Musical Paradise. I purchased their 428 v2 for $700, with fairly good tubes. Garry Huang is the owner and a good guy. I learned about them by a fellow I met on Audiogon. The amp is a 300b/2a3 combo. 300b has 7.5 watts, and the 2a3 puts out 2.5 watts. I was quite impressed for this price. It is all point to point wiring, and it looks nice also. Oh yeah, it also sounds fantastic.
  2. Yes, Jubilees seem like an obvious substitution for the Khorn......but then, don't you have the added complexity of going active? The Jubilee is not a plug and play unit form owners I have talked to.
  3. I sincerely apologize, the forum software deleted my paragraphs above. Thanks, Dale.
  4. I just have to comment about Greg's experience with a system not operating correctly, and then people leaving his room at the RMAF with people 'commenting in the hall'. There seems to be so much 'mythology and mystery' surrounding what people think goes into a great sounding system. I find 'all of that' just slightly, well, disturbing. I certainly am able to see all of the 'mythology' and its accomanying mayhem from all that I have read the last 2 years I have been in highend audio. I truly find all this, well...'crap' and to be very sad. The myth is so much a product of the advertising that we all are so easily overcome by in this wonderful hobby. Thousands and Thousands spent, too many times not met with even realistic expectations. With that said, I trust that anyone that has seen my posts over the last year would take to heart what I have found. That is, that Greg, Volti Audio, totally deliver on the best that Fully Loaded Horn Loudspeakers promise. Greg builds on the promise that PWK left us with, that this format for bringing us music as realistically reproduced inour homes is a great possiblity. Greg does this faithfully, and at a great promise. Yes, with integrity also. I can't possibly find anyone that does this better.
  5. Well Guy......expericence, comes as at a price.....or as Jackson Browne says.....the trash man comes tomorrow (The Late Show).
  6. As Greg said, a few paragraphs back, the reviewer noticed it, Greg know how to do hornloudspeakers. Yes, that is all I I have been saying. I am so glad that someone in the world has finally ACKLOWLEDGED it. Volti Audio, is a very cognescient company ! They certainly have my vote.
  7. REALLY ??? .....Did I just hear Greg say a bigger Horn Speaker System ???...............I am still saving up for the VITTORA Version 2.....sheese.....I am BAD!!!!
  8. Fantastic news Greg. We knew you would slay them cone driver lovers! Fully loaded Horn Loudspeakers are now poised for a resurgence.
  9. I definitely find a sub with LaScalas is quite preferable. As was said, instruments that don't necessary appear to have frequencies in the extreme low end, still have some of their tonality grounded down there. You are attempting to fool your brain into believeing that their are instruments are in your room. Unless you have absolutely never heard an actual instrument in reality, you are not going to buy the illusion as well when the complete range of that instrument and the instruments going along with it sound as complete as they should.
  10. I have mine temporarily on 2.25" pavers that I had left over from a landscaping project. In addition, as I said, please try moving them from corners. I have mine, in a 13.5' by 22' room, about 3.5' from the back wall and 8"inches from the wall. As you will read elsewhere, room placement is everything. LaScalas are not one bit different. The room in back of the speakers is so, very important to the depth of image, IMHO.
  11. Dennie..with all due respect......are your :LaScalas sitting against the wall? I tried that ....several times.....in short. No way no how.....you have to give a horn speaker reasonable space in order to 'breathe'...they aren't any different than a ' regular' speaker. Please try both if you have the room. This is very simple, given the room, but highly percepably mind alternating.
  12. Hello.. After several weeks of swearing to myself I needed to try this, I finally did. What I did was raise the my Volti Audio Vittoras V1 (same basic design as LaScalas) to a 'tophat' level of 40". I had been using my Beyma CP25 tweeter to raise the 'soundscape' level to try to raise my overall soundscape level to a level that is satisfying. So, I decided to raise it because, especially the stock LaScala, is way too low, as well all know. I just wanted to let any of you who have not tried this that it makes an unbelievable change in the perception of the frequencies. I then place my Beymas back on top, and it so, so much better. We all know how important room placement is with any speaker. It is as true with a speaker of this design. I encourage you who have LaScalas to try this. I know there are some who think it is alright to place them in the corners. Well, maybe, but maybe not.....I don't have alot of room in my livingroom, but I have removed all of the 'seating area' that we are taught 'must be in a livingroom/listeningroom' by the WAF. Well, really, how often is it used? If you are able to manuver it in your life, try giving your LaScalas some room to breath in back of themselves and raise them up. All in an effort to let them do what they are capable of. Room placement is half the batlle with all loudspeakers. Please give it a try if you haven't. And for those of you who haven't become famialirized with it, please read Cardas roomplacement, and get those LaScalas away from the walls if you have the room space. Thanks.
  13. Thanks Cask05, those look to be a good reference, Dale.
  14. I have found that Elmer's works wonders.
  15. They are your speakers afterall. A black base is just fine, if you like it also. Cane makes a wonderful speaker grill. I say, go for it!
  16. If you read as many audio reviews and posts as I do, perhaps you become frustrated at times with the nebulous wording that is used. I was wondering if anyone is aware of a good dictionary for the many adjectives that are used in reviews. I don't appreciate having to guess what a person truly means by a term, I don't find any value in guessing what a person 'may' mean. I want to know exactly what they are talking about. This hobby is based on alot of nebulous talk. It would be fantastic, if not required in my mind, to be able to have a 'Standard' use of the common adjectives that are thrown about in this wonderful hobby of ours. If anyone is aware of any that have been written, I would appreciate being made of aware of them. I have 'googled' this, but to no avail. Thanks.
  17. I agree with ClaudeJ1. I have never noticed any difference with just biwiring at all, at least once you listen long enough to get past the placebo effect.
  18. I'm very late to this thread. By the end of 1970s I had collected 400 LPs during high school and college. I was dying at that point for a new format, even though I hadn't yet heard of one, that eliminated the damn pops. The availablity of 'imports' required a lot of driving to obscure music shops in my town. I have tried to go back to them lately, but the pops once again chased me away. I love my current CDP, Marantz SA-11S2, and just don't want to start the new monetary and time consumer of buying and selling turntables and phono stages, not to mention cartridges. The best of the best LPs and turntables may well be 'better' than CDs, but by really how much. I also have 600 CDs, I can't afford to start over at this point in my life.
  19. Hello. I just came across this thread. I have just recently made a discovery in amp choice that kind of goes against the grain, I guess. With my Volti Audio Vittoras V1, I have in the last 7 months tried a very nice Hybrid amp, Musical Design, a nice 300b tube amp, and a Marantz PM-11S2 integrated (which I sold). I was missing the clear crisp top treble. I purchased a Bryston 14b sst 10 months ago before I received my Vittoras to use with some Vienna Acoustic Strauss (90 db efficency). I have it a spare bedroom as I was going to sell it. It finally occured to me to try it with the Vittoras. I was blown away with my discovery. The top end was perfect, but the biggest find was that I loved the 'punchy' presence it gave to all frequencies. Pianos had much lovelier sound, guitars were more defined and there to me and the bass was truly much momore there to my ears. I immediately dropped my prejudice against solid state with horns. I realized I didn't in actuality desire the ultra smooth sound of a tube based amp. Interesting revelation for me.
  20. I wish you the best fortune Greg. Show them what a truly highend horn loudspeaker can do!
  21. There is a pair on Audiogon for $$$ 3700 right now....if that is where I was going from my Volti Audio Vittoras I would have grabbed them at 33% off the retail price!
  22. As I mentioned, the your sound is only as good as the compression driver you are using. It creates the sound that is amplified by the horn. Specifically, the BMS 4592ND-MID 16 ohm midrange driver. If you had both the mid drivers that Klipsch uses and the BMS, you could hold them up to your ear and hear the drastic difference of the sound. Yes, you have to spend some money to change out the driver, horn and crossovers. The question is, do you truly want the best sound. If you keep playing around the same old components, you will get the same old sound. That is up to each person's desires and pocketbook. The compression drivers are a little over a $1000 per pair. Take a look at the Volti Audio site and look at the packages that drop right in. The work has been done for everyone who wants to truly make their Klipschorns the best they can possibly be. Their is even a tutorial on installing them into your Khorns, with Greg Roberts wife, Laurie, actually doing the work. I invite you to consider the best sound possible.
  23. Straight up....this is your midrange/tweeter hitting you like a huricane. Mid bass and certainly not low bass dont burn your hair like a hot day in Hope Arkansas in August as you are describing. True enough? Improper horns are bad enough, but, pardon my french....when one is not using a very good level of compression driver, one is not going to get the best sound. The compression driver is where is all starts. If you aren't using that best possible compression driver, how would you expect to get the best possible sound out of whatever 'flare' horn you are using. In the case of Klipsch, sorry but the business model comes into play, they are not using the best iterations of the compression driver that is produced. Actually, they use the cheapest they can get away with. In this day in age that is an abomination to my ears. Commercialized audio is called that for a reason. It is what it is. Kick me off the Forum. I could care less. The truth is known. I have the same Volti Audio VTrac in my Vittoras that Greg uses for both midranges. It is phenomenally smooth and clear. Never in your face. Yes, my experiences have been very happily handled by VotiAudio, as I have happily acknowledged on this forum. Greg is the consumate genlleman in all of highend audio. I have done a ton of research in many ways. He is an incredible resource, and 'author' on this subject.
  24. Show off WHAT ??? I don't have mine yet !!! []
