  2. The year was 1978 in Hessisch Oldendorf, Germany. I was in the USAF and had never owned a stereo before. I never knew about Hi-Fi until I went to a friends house and his Dad had a Carver amp and preamp, Denon turntable, DBX 3bx Range Expander and the best sounding pair of speakers I had ever heard - KEF 104/2's. This system sounded unbelievable! I remember listening to Boston's 1st album and it just blew me away! From that point forward, I knew one day I was gonna get me the best system I could afford. After saving most of my money for a year in the Armed Forces, I purchased a Sansui G-8000 Receiver (125 w/ch), Dual CS-721 Turntable, SAE 500 Noise Reduction Unit, DBX 3bx Range Expander and Infinity Column II speakers. This system was not as good as my friend's father but it was good enough for me. About 4 years later, I replaced the receiver with Yamaha separates that I still have today. 3. Back in the late 70's, I had a pair of CV 326-R's that were pretty decent, but they didn't sound as good as my Infinity Column II's or my Klipsch CF-2's. 4. Thanks, avman! As soon as I build up a little extra cash, I will definitely be getting them. I will be doing the pre-wire this weekend... 5. You have now made 3 posts on this Forum and haven't done anything but bash the Klipsch product and name. Please do us all a favor and go crawl back under your rock... Mike PS. Martin Logan's sound muddy to me and can't reproduce the low frequencies... quote: Originally posted by storm300x: there is a cure for the klipsch disease, its called Martin Logan.....
  6. Mr-Bob, I have a few questions for you, so please bear with me... How far is Pembroke Pines from Orlando? How old are they and how long have you had them? How are they finished? When was the last time you had them hooked up? Have you done anything to tweak them? Do they have the original drivers? Last but not least, how much do you want for them? Thanks, Mike
  7. Dave, Sorry to hear about that. I have had 19 great years with mine, and hope to have many more running some heresy's in my bedroom on Speaker A, and the SA-3's on Speaker B. Hope you get it figured out... Mike
  8. Dave, See this thread http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001309.html . My lights are burnt out as well, as I hear this was common on all M4's and C4 preamps. What is wrong with yours? BTW, Sound Advice will repair the amp for a flat fee of $158 I believe... Mike
  9. Phil, Thanks for the reply! I have a pretty spacious back yard and think the SA-3's might be more to my liking. When I get them hooked up, I'll let everyone know how they sound. I can hardly wait... Mike
  10. Thanks, Sal! Bob - I know they probably won't sound like my CF-2's but was wondering how they would sound with a pretty good amp driving them...like my yammy M-4. I would have to think that they would be more than adequate out on my porch. Mike
  11. Hello, Jo-Jo! And welcome to the best BB on the internet. Once you have a pair of Klipsch speakers, there will always be at least one pair somewhere in the household. I'm now currently looking for some to fill up my bedroom as well as my screened-in prorch. Mike
  12. No info on the AU6900 but I had a G-8000 that I bought new in 1978 while stationed in Germany. What a beautiful piece of equipment. I searched the net and found this http://www.oaktreeent.com/web_photos/hi-fi/Sansui_G-8000_collage.jpg . It had 120 w/ch and had no problem driving my Infinity Column II's. I had a lot of friends from the mid-70's using Sansui receivers and they spoke very highly of them. I found this website if you are interested in the owners and service manuals http://www.tiac.net/users/mgasman/manuals_sansui.html . Scroll down until you find the AU6900... Good luck, Mike This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 06-22-2001 at 03:36 PM
  13. Once I get my Yamaha M-4 amp fixed I plan on hooking it up to some outdoor speakers on my covered porch at my new home. I was wondering if anybody has these speakers or has heard them before? They have an 8" woofer and a square Tractrix horn. I will be pushing 125 w/ch thru them and I would think they would kick a$$. I did a search on all the forums and no mention of this speaker. Anybody know anything? As usual, thanks in advance... Mike
  14. I bought a Yamaha M-4 amp back in 1982 and need to do a minor repair. I called Yamaha and they no longer carry the service manual for it. I was wondering if anybody has this amp and has the service manual to go along with it? Thanks in advance, Mike
  15. Wow! You guys are great! I really like your idea, Max. DJK - I will order the manual today and send it to you as soon as it comes in. If you would Email me at mlindsey@dewberry.net and forward your address, I would greatly appreciate it. I do have a soldering iron, so will attempt to do the work myself. Thanks again, Mike quote: Originally posted by djk: >>2) There is a fixed-delay circuit which is broken. 16. I have a Yamaha M-4 amp (125 w/ch) that I bought new in 1982. This amp has powered my Infinity Column II's from 1982 to 1995, and now my Klipsch CF-2's since then. The problem is that over time, it's taking longer and longer for the amp to turn itself on. Over the last 5 years or so, it has gone from 5 seconds to now 45 minutes to have power. I'm really stumped as to what's going on. I have since ordered a Denon 4800 for my new HT room but would really like to set this amp up in my bedroom for 2 channel stereo. My local Sound Advice said they would fix it (I'm sure they send it out somewhere) for a flat fee of $150, which includes parts. Does anybody have any idea what might be the problem with this or should I just send it in to get fixed? Thanks in advance, Mike
  17. What does everyone think of the Monster HTS-3500? Mike
  18. How does XRCD compare with Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) Ultradiscs? I think the other high-end CD maker was Sony, with the Gold re-masters. MFSL sounded much better... Mike
  19. boa, Thanks for clearing that up. I really appreciate your help on this... Mike
  20. Sorry boa! That's SAE (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100). My bad... It is a single RCA plug for Digital output. It also has the dual RCA plugs for Analog output. I do not have my system hooked up yet as I am not quite moved in. I also have never used an AVR before, so this is all new to me. My system consists of the following: Denon 4800 AVR Panasonic RP91 DVD POS TEAC CD player Dual CS-721 Turntable DBX 3bx Series III Range Expander Klipsch Epic CF-2's Klipsch KLF-C7 Klipsch RS-3's SVS 20-39CS w/Samson Amp Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Since I can't afford the Pioneer Elite RPTV at the moment, I am sticking with my Mitsu 31" TV and will go with TWC as opposed to DBS, during the short-term. If I want to listen to cable, without the stereo turned on, will I have to utilize the cable box's analog output as well? I would assume I would have to run that to my TV? Thanks again, Mike quote: Originally posted by boa12: mike, is that out an rca plug type out or a cable tv coax connection out? what's AE? if u have dig cable & a dig set-top, u'd be looking for a single rca jack called like digital audio out. as long as you're getting sound now from your tv u wouldn't lose that. but w/ this connection u gain digital sound from your receiver(w/ the dolby decoder) & speakers. all u need is a single digital rca audio cable like u might use for a dvdp (they call 'em coax but that's really a misnomer). even a radio shack video cable will do. just make sure it has/requires rca plugs, not those cable co types which is i guess a REAL coax plug.
  21. Boa, I have the same AE box (TWC) and it does have the Digital Coax Out. If I run the coax cable (does it have to be a digital coax cable?) from digital out to my receiver's digital coax in, will I only be able to listen to my TV through the receiver? Is that what you mean by running coax from cable box audio out (non digital) to the TV audio in? Mike quote: Originally posted by boa12: yea i've had the scientific atlanta explorer 2000's digital audio out connected by tributary rca coax to the coax digital in on my receiver for a while now. i finally did get showtime & hbo added & a few of showtime movies are broadcast in DD 5.1 (lfe & all). no such luck w/ hbo though - just dolby surround/prologic there but still sounds much better than analog prologic. & the digital music channels sound pretty impressive in 5 channel stereo mode (& no commercials compared to FM radio. jeff G, can u get that plate/cover off (unscrew the cover) or is it soldered/welded on? aaron, most cable guys don't even know bout the digital audio out on the boxes. be sure the box back doesn't actually have 1. what kinda dig box do u have? if no go there ask a few at the cableco if they have a sciatlanta explorer box or something newer w/ that output.

  24. Doug, I may end up doing that as well. I currently have a 1" diamater hole where the wires (12g) come out. They are 6' high and there is a horizontal 2x4 right below the holes. With the 2x4, I can pretty much mount anything, including the speaker itself. I guess I would have to use bare wire if I mount the speaker directly to the wall... Mike
  25. Thanks for the reply, Keith! The separation on the RS-3 is 5-9/16" and Omnimount doesn't have anything that wide, unless you get the mounts that are made for hundreds of pounds. I'm now thinking of building a white shelf (RS-3's are white) to let them rest on. They will be firing straight out from 6 feet high. Mike
