  1. Ah, there's that site. I always lose this one. Bookmarked. Waddya think of Micheal Christ's system with the Edgar Tractix horns?
  2. You might want to see what these things are basically made of, maybe you find find something similar for less cash. (Lotsa DIY ideas for feet.)
  3. Isn't this due the AC switching noise introduced from using a solid state rectifier circuit? From the diodes? Whatever may be used. Tube rectification seems like the rave.
  4. Well, considering what I paid for the rest of my components and speakers, I can live with a fifty dollar burn. Shoulda shopped around. Will it be a big difference over Samsung 709? heh.
  5. It was a Ebay store I bought it from. They have good feedback. It's new, so they say. If I bought locally in town, I would be subjected to 8.1% sales tax. I haven't paid for it yet. (If it doesn't work or used, then I'll send it back, this was the first thing I asked them, if it was new.) So did I get screwed, or what? Yes STL, I jumped the gun. Ol' Fleabay used to be a good place. (It better F***ing work!) THANX!
  6. Mike, Did you catch the link about Bose that justin posted? Print it out, and pass on to your freinds. I'm going too. One particular contracting foreman of mine, is going to be reading this article. (He LOVES his Blows.) We work groundskeeping on a AFB, and he's Ex Air-Force. Read up on what Bose did to the Air Force. It's sad. I wonder how the Heresys do on valves? I'll bet it would be sweet.
  7. Well Kelly, I guess I'm just a bass heavy slob. But I'm not using subs at the moment, and I still have great bass, but It doesn't extend in the lower end just slightly like I desire. When I use the subs, I don't crank 'em. I use them for extension. Hell, I'm pushin' 40, and my taste in music is slowly calming down, slowly. But I grew up in the thrash era, I can't turn my back on that. One moment I'll listen to Carole King, then it's grindcore, and the Chorus II's pull it off pretty well. Gear and musical taste vary. Frzn, I could peg 120Db's as well, no subs. (But why?) My listening levels are around average 80 Db's or less. I'm just a two channel system, with a DVD for audio. You sure have a mountain of gear, that's impressive! Ears, I been on the Pass site, and seen some of the homebrew amps that folks have made. Man, it's spendy to just DIY these amps. Way outta my league. But wouldn't you think that a 100 watt Pass class A design could beat the piss out of a pair of FRC's? Yes, I am getting impractical.
  8. I'll still torture my Carver CDP with tweeks. Maybe I'll get it to sound like a Oracle, LOL! Where's the Forrest of flames? Don't be scared. varied opinions matter. THANX!
  9. Didn't EV make a 30'woofer with a cabinet the size of a refridgerator? The Patrician is some great looking vintage speaker, I bet they sound as well. Those old Bozaks were cool looking furniture wise also, JBL's, etc... Real speakers. THANX!
  10. Now Ear, This Carver TFM-75 has to have some sort of class rating. Don't Consumer amplifiers have to have a class rating for legal sale? Or is the Field magnetic a switching power supply, class D?(I think I'm aware of this circuit.) Refined as bulldog, that's good! BASH amp! BASH! BASH! BASH! BASH! I know this is class D switcher. THANX!
  11. Okay at $400, with dual trannies, 23,000uf total capacitance, and Nichicon caps, I can't see this being a bad deal, any brand amp. (Did you notice if the Nichicon capacitors were green or gold, like the audio grade muse's?) or were they blue like the general grade stuff? No slam intended. Forrest, what is it you don't like about this particular carver amp? The sound? Or do you not like the sound of Carver products in general? Do you think they are cheaply made? (Explain.) I ain't here to flameout, I 'm just curious to your biased opinion on Carver products. I think the Carver CDP's suck, and Ear agrees with me. I think a good quality amplifier IMO, should double power output as the impedance lowers. For example,(no bridging) a 100 watt per channel amp, 200 watts total 8 ohms, should double to 200 watts per channel, 400 watts total into 4 ohms. At 2 ohms, the output should be 400 watts per channel, 800 watts total. And a real good one should have no variance in THD or TIM as the impedance lowers. (Does a Samson 700 do this?) But this sort of design I could never afford. Oh well, my sub amp situation is toast until income tax time. I had to buy a DVD player for my girlfreind to keep her happy, and now I am short. Looks like I have to fix the Non Audiophile Device. Oh,the pain!
  12. Well I just bought a Panasonic RP-56 off fleabay for $231 total. The seller's feedback was fine, and it's claimed to be new. This thing will make my Sammy seem primitive. I hope I didn't get burned. THANX!
  13. Heresy's are bigger than I thought. Is the Heresy just a baby Cornwall?
  14. But if you were to use the mentioned theater speaker in home enviroment, would you add the 4 Db gain also, to get a theorectical idea? Was this gain addition averaged from different room sizes?
  15. Bose would great if your listening room was a 4'x4' closet. Ya just sit on the plastic subwoofer.
  16. Thanks for the replies! I'll browse up on Panasonic and sony. Progressive scan? HDTV? Hell, I'm just glad my girlfreind's 19' Tinitron has S link. THANX!
  17. Forrest, I take it you have one SVS sub, right? Now when you bridged the Samson, did you series wire the sub to each channel? (Hot out one side and ground on the other?) I wired my two in series, because the Nad only bridges off the left side. Heathkit? From what I understand the general attitude about these, isn't all that great. What Heathkits do you favor? (From what I understand, is just net garb anyway.) But I am curious to your opinion to heathkit. Ear, couple questions. I gather you pulled the cover on your TFM-75. You said it's a dual mono design, are the transformers toriods? There is two, right? Are there rectifing circuits for each transformer? What brand of caps does Bob use in this amp? Two switches with TWO power cords? Do you have any ideas what output transistors are used (Mosfet/Bipolar), and what brands? Is it a straight class A amp? (SET.) Or is it Class A for so many watts then class A/B? (Like my MX-1.) There isn't a whole buttload of cheap jumper pins or wires? And does the circuit topology look nice and symmetrical, like a good dual mono SS should? If it has all these features, $400 can't be that bad. I'm a neutral party here. THANX!
  18. You'll go a long way if stay away from lawn care. Trust me, when it isn't winter around here, I'm trimming around 260 acres of improved grass in a week, at the local AFB, for a contractor. With Military Q.A. BREATHING down your neck. Packin' a Shindiawa 270 string trimmer for 8hrs. It's nice to be outside, and excellent exercise. But you seem like a pretty sharp tack. Save your money and invest, like you said. If you work it right, you could be in a pad, paid for pretty quick. you better gather up a stereo before your folks give ya the boot, though. Did you figure out your wall plate dilemma? You could also probably grind the existing plate down to the size you want.
  19. What do you suggest, forrest? I ain't bought sh*t yet.
  20. There is 5 Carver TFM-75' floatin' on Ebay for around 3 or 4 hundred bucks! Damn! They got a Carver sd/a 360t changer on there, currently at 4 hundred bucks. LOL! Maybe I talk my brother-in law into frontin' some cash, I'm doing some work for him. I wonder how often the TFM-75's pop up on Ebay? Damn!
  21. Probably should read archives, but I'm lazy. I have a cheapie Samsung 709 that I bought basically for audio, and for a tweak for the unit. Well, since I've got it, my girlfreind and I have discovered the magic of DVD video, and she has taken a real shine to it. Now I have the parts necessary to tweak the 709, but now she's muggin' me, like I better not do it. So I need to find another DVD player, $200 $300. I want at least some sort of 5.1 decoder built in. What would the best quality brands in this price range? We both need to be happy. Replies are greatly appreciated. THANX!
  22. I really feel sorry for ya watching that teeny 47 inch high definition television, Justin. See if you can find some sort of plastic, and make your own plates if you can. Would't be too tough.
  23. Okay, nobody was home tonight, so I measured my Chorus II's again, with the Rat Schack meter. Eight feet away, listening position. 12'x 14', 7 ft ceiling, speakers 11 and half feet apart. 98 Db's with the amp at about 9 o'clock, listening position. I decided to push it to ten. 104,106 Db's at the listening position. I measured at 1 meter from each speaker, pointing the meter at the enclosure. 114,116 Db's. It still sounds clean, nice! But then, the paneling on this cheap trailerhouse starts SINGING. Lame. Stepped outside for a minute, this poor little 60 footer's bumpin' like a Ghetto Hooptie. no subs. But these are ungodly levels, two or three songs at this volume makes you feel like you just snorted a line of crystal, gets ya Amped. Good thing the neighbors are mostly college students. Amazing what a crossover upgrade and cat5e wire can do. THANX!
  24. I'm with Discusman, I have Chorus II's. THANX!
  25. Thanks Ear, Your advice is most appreciated. Maybe this summer, when funds return to normal. Right now, about all I can afford to do, is fix the Non Audiophile Device. Painfull.
