  1. Have this Cat build ya a home theater system. (I think it's the guy leaning against the bug holding a speaker.)
  2. 'Welcome to my nightmare' 'Years ago''Steven' and 'Cold ethyl' YEAH! I wish I could afford a SACD audio player. IMO, I think they are a little spendy yet for general consumers. Down the road possibly, maybe Sony will get more desperate. I've read nice things about them, and they play Redbook's very well. THANX!
  3. So you think Bush caused the recession? You think NAFTA and GATT are good things? Aw, who cares about politics disco, lets enjoy one thing I'm sure we can agree on, KLIPSCH SPEAKERS! THANX!
  4. A pair of Chorus II's for $270 bucks. THANX!
  5. SLAM! Forrest! SLAM! Ya know, I like the older Funkadelic stuff. I'm no disco fan by no means, but I respect the music, kinda like 'old school' country western. But to this day I still thank god that my sister saved me from Disco way back when in the late Seventies. 'Please listen to the Aerosmith album, Mike, Please?' And speaking of other Has-beens is Clinton and the Clintonoid adminstation. Gee, what would they have done concerning the Sept 11 incident? Like they did for 8 years, Nothing. Ain't no Bush fan, but at least he's doing something about it. Here, I'll try to get this somewhat back on topic. What audio products are out there that are just as big a liers as Bill Clinton? THANX!
  6. I have a MX-1 and CX-1. But these are just black. The amp has no meters, and its at least 90lbs or better. They must be the cheaper versions. Hmmmm....I wonder if the internal circuits are the same. I don't even know the specs on them other than it's a 440 watt amp with a 35 watt pre. I'm happy with them. THANX!
  7. My two brain cells... Most common amplifiers that have A+B outputs usually switch it to series output. Same thing, Higher impedance, Uh, right? Unless you have a crossover with separate circuits for tweeter/mid or mid/woofer with each circuit wired to A+B, that might make a difference. (A wired to tweeter/mid and B to woofer for example.) Otherwise, Bi-amping IMO is a better way to go. THANX!
  8. Why would you care about statistical opinions? Say everyone's opinions favor a certain product. 95% of everyone thinks this speaker is god, taken from statistics on opinions. Of course, all these folks would have to be in the same room, same gear, set-up the same, all feeling like they are in a listening mood. Otherwise, it wouldn't matter. Even then, you could be that 5% that thinks the speaker sucks. The whole concept of audio is subjective, just like the musical material it reproduces. What do numbers matter, when bottom line, your ears make the choice? (And not Thears.) THANX!
  9. D class swithing power supplies. Though some self-powered subs have good quality amps, most don't. You can always have more control of a sub with a good quality external amp and crossover. It may not be more practical, but I just can't buy into self-powered subwoofers Klipschkid, have you even compared the SVS subs with the RSW15? If there some sort of secret you know, then 'fess up. Otherwise, I think your just 'Cyberbating'. THANX!
  10. Well now that Ear has brought the topic back around to sticking up for Krell again. (No offense EAR, but obviously Krell has been branded 'Yuppy Gear.') But, A well designed amplifier is a well designed amplifier and who gives a **** who made it. I figure I would go way off topic now. Has anyone heard of Eric Boucher A.K.A Jello Biafra? He was the Dead Kennedy's singer, a polictical activist if you will. In one of his spoken word recordings he talks about how Hemp was completly run out the picture in the industrial world. He refers to a book titled 'The Emperor wears no clothes' (Can't remember the Author BTW.) In this book, the author explains how hemp was used for paper, clothing and other uses before the mid-thirties. Hemp is big part of early American Industrial history. Now there was a lot of companies with large Timber stands itching to make some money off their trees. And a certain Chemical company had just patented a process to make trees into pulp for paper. Now these Corporations had more money than anyone relating to Hemp industrial uses. And their input and money/power pretty much convinced the goverment to term Marijuana 'Devils weed' and basically made up a bullshit campaign to make it illegal by 1937. So it wasn't about Weed being a drug problem back then, it was all about money. I don't condone the stuff, but do you realize how many trees we could save by using Hemp as a resource for paper again? Besides, you couldn't get off on Hemp if you wanted to, it's the well babied females that are GOOD. Sorry about getting way off topic, maybe it'll kill the thread. THANX!
  11. Well Mike, I'm going to use a circa 1989 NAD 2100 power envelope amp. This amp has a lot lower power rating than the Yamaha 440watt power amp with the 35watt pre-amp. But it's been bridged 4ohms running a 15' rockford fosgate pro series 8ohm car sub in a home-brew ported box for 3,4 years now and barely gets warm. But this sub is 200watts with 400watt peak. The NAD has pretty good dynamics, with big power supplies and should be okay. But I know it will be working harder with a pair of 16/46's, and this is why I remain kinda skeptical. I could get a higher powered amp if necessary. TV is pretty certain I'll be fine. THANX! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
  12. OH MY! Two pairs of Chorus II's in Black. Couldn't you convince your Wife that you need all four Chorus's for front and rear mains for the HT setup? They match. I have a pair of these,(Black) and they are way plenty for where I'm at, so I'm fine with two. Four of these with a couple properly matched subs IMO would be quite a speaker system. 5.1,or 6.1. Can you setup your HT this way, currently? If you can, dial it in and let her listen to it, maybe she'll change her mind. But if gets in the way of her interior decorating, Oh well,Waddya gonna do...... I do like the Chorus's in natural finishes better though. THANX! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
  13. I don't know about BB lurking, but this Audio hobby can get to be a monkey on your back! But if it keeps your sanity, who cares! THANX!
  14. Cool. Yes, I sourced some wire, and made a jig for a drill and plan on building some cables over the holiday. Ed, It seems nobody dislikes this cable, from what I have read. Marvel, Thanks for the info and possible clarifications there on various network cable.(Cat 7),etc.. All I really know is that people like the twisted/braided CAT 5 wire. It'll keep me from being bored all weekend. Happy Thanksgiving! THANX!
  15. I just hope the amp I'll use for subs, will keep a pair of 16/46's up with my Chorus II's. They are sensitive. I should be getting those subs any time now. Thanx!
  16. Drill site for wire twisting. http://beyond_gomer.tripod.com/ Man, I hope things get better for ya. Thanx!
  17. Oh Ear, be nice. Hell, When I was Justin's age, I was more worried about being drunk than audio. It was a misunderstanding. Obviously, He's into the same subject as everyone else, why knock him. justin, It's not about the fire rating of Cat 5, It's about the sound quality of teflon coated wire over the PVC coated wire. Some people claim the teflon coated wire sounds 'better' than PVC. This could be subjective bullshit, who knows..... But some claim the process in which the PVC is processed and applied degrades the copper or makes it degrade quicker. yeah yer right, CAT 7 is better than CAT 5, it has higher bandwidth, Longer grain structure in the copper, I geuss. (Yes, and a pain to find.) The Bandwidth rating for network cable, is a different rating than audio, I'm pretty sure. Who could hear 350mhz anyway? Now if the wire with better structure and bandwidth, should in theory, sound 'Better', then why not spend the extra cash? (I mean were talking cents here.) There is a site for twisting with a drill. My pre-amp does have a pretty wimpy power cord...... THANX!
  18. CAT 5 FEP,Teflon coated,24 AWG,Twist or braid it.
  19. AMEN,BROTHER! Most of these great folks mentioned, probably worked with solid core copper wire, Right? Shouldn't make bad speaker wire. Delusional Hype, I agree. Thanx!
  20. The Teflon has better properties when braided. Better properties than PVC. What's the difference, twenty-five cents a foot?! Whatever. THANX!
  21. Cat 5 plenum, teflon coated, 24 gauge, solid core copper. Braid it and it makes great speaker wire. And It's cheap. I don't think even PWK would have much of a ***** about it either. THANX!
  22. I'd research the net, there is got to be something out there to suit your application in that price range. (Sorry, but I don't know a helluva lot about Extraction modes on A/V receivers.) Heck, most consumer brand named products have cheap to top line in their components. Pioneer,Sony. I don't think anyone has a ***** about the Sony SACD player. And if they do, I'd think they are misled. It all depends on the cash you want to throw out. (You gotta spend a few bucks for a high quality receiver.) My first CD player was a Sony portable D2 player (circa 1986). Sounded pretty bad by todays standards but great then. Tough too.(This thing took a full force slam into a floorboard of '66 Econoline van I had, that would have shattered any newer one to peices. But it just fired back up and kept going.) Ain't nuthin' wrong with Sony. THANX!
  23. Do you have a outboard X-over?(oogins) If one had a crossover with variable settings, you can run both subs summed mono out of each channel of the X-over to the amp, (Provided it has left and right channel volume) and then you can roll off the one smaller sub before the lower tuned one. A Two-Way sub of sorts. I don't know, but IMO, this setup would work better with the subs next to each other, working as one, from low to high extentsion. My 2 cents. THANX!
