  1. Welcome to the forum. I am glad you listed room size for the rooms, but dimensions would held even more. The Chorus II respond well at low levels as do all of the Heritage line. If you can get them for a good price, I would go for it. Even in the end, if you do not like them, they hold their value. I think you will fall in love though as my Chorus IIs are my favorite speaker (and I have La Scalas and Heresys). Which pair are you looking at, and you can mention it here. Forum members point out good sales on craigslist and eBay in the Grage sale Alerts section. One nice thing is most forum members do not work against each other on purchases. If you still feel hesitation, let people know your location and a forum member may allow you to come over for a listen. Bur if you like the Forte, you will like the Chorus. Slight differences but more the same than anything else. I have only heard the Forte's some, but own Chorus IIs and Quartets.
  2. Yes please give a location as forum members are especially helpful when they can be. Even the "smart" guys try to help. As some have alluded to, picking it up in stages may be best. This is how I would do it, but I do not think most here would necessarily agree. I would get a decent receiver, not great but it needs power. I am talking units from harman kardon, denon, onkyo, Marantz, and maybe pioneer. Then I would focus first on the two front speakers (flank the TV). I would go with the best you can afford almost. Then, at first you do not need the center channel. Find out what center works with the speakers you found, and add it later. As receivers can usually run a ghost center, you can even get the surrounds before the center. Do not use the TV speakers as your center. In a square room, you will only need the 5.1. So get a decent receiver from a good brand, and get the best two speakers right now. After that, get the center or surrounds later when you have some more money. This is my opinion. My purchase order would be: receiver & front speakers, surrounds, center. If you buy the best speakers as you go, you can replace the receiver later. Maybe go to separates but that is years down the road. (Separates are not for now, but it separates the processing/tuner from the amplification. Just wanted to let you know that so if someone talks about integrated amps, receivers and separates, you get the feel. Integrated amps have no tuner and the processing is usually not as good imo.)
  3. I am sure others will be along to help answer this question better. But my feeling is that the vsx 33 will be more than enough to drive you speakers as Klipsch is so efficient. I know you are switching over to HDMI, but if you use SACD/DVD Audio players, sometimes HDMI downmixes this. To keep the audio the way the artists mixed it, you would need the multi-channel inputs on the sc 35. Other than that, make sure the vsx 33 has enough inputs for you, and I think it will work great. That is until you switch to separates (just a joke as receivers work great).
  4. I do not know your player but may have a suggestion. It may just be my Marantz DVD (CD, SACD, and DVD-Audio) player, but it has an audio only setting. I use this when playing CDs or SACDs, and think it sounds better (with no video hardware working). This may be in my mind, but it is a suggestion to check if your player has this. Other than that, I think the higher-end universal players do a very good job with audio. I use the optical connection for CDs though as well (over the HDMI). I do hook up the NAD CD player from time to time to "make sure" that the Marantz is doing as well.
  5. I am posting a link to this question. Please help me decide. Going to run a set of Forte or Chorus iis. http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/146761/1507395.aspx#1507395
  6. I am looking at getting a carver amp. I have the inside track on an M-500t and a TFM-35x. Which would you suggest and why? I would love to hear from someone who has heard both but willing to hear just one impression. The amp will run Heritage speakers (not sure yet which ones). Thanks
  7. Also, I could never go wrong with my NAD 2200 or anything NAD that I have heard. But I prefer the Carver right now.
  8. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I like the Carver M-1.5t. Bob Carver is one of those who will get arguments started. I also have a Carver AV-405 (5 channel) that I am happy with running the center and surround channels. The M-1.5t sounds great on my Chorus IIs and La Scalas. I was surprised because I did not care for the Phase Linear 400 that my friend loves (a Bob Carver design). It is all about the listener for sure though.
  9. What models have you heard? Different Carver's have different sounds.
  10. I know this, but it is for my Father's basement. He will not be upgrading the TV for at least a year (next tax return).
  11. I am looking into getting a KG 1.2V center channel. I was wondering if anyone new if they were shielded. Also are the KV# shielded?
  12. No, I was originally looking at T-Shirts and Pull-overs too. It is just a surprise that the shipping is more than the items. The gear is a great deal until shipping comes into play. I just have not seen prices this high for shipping T-shirts and the like. Just making a comment. I will most likely still make my purchase, but it may be scaled down some by the high shipping cost.
  13. I vote Indy this year, and continue alternating. This would be my first trip, but I would love to make it to either.
  14. I know this is an old thread and all, but I have just noticed one thing. The shipping is very high for everything. The shipping and tax on the BS pin is almost 200% of the cost of the pin. This is an issue.
  15. It feels great on the ears, but can hurt the wallet a bit. ANd the girlfriend does not always like the amount spent on speakers. And she likes it even less when I "play stereo" and she comes to complain about the money and time I spend on it. She loves to listen, but thinks I do a little overkill. She hates it when she complains and i just turn it up
  16. Sorry to take over the posts here. But here is the Chorus II v Cornwall II thoughts. This is similar to the forte v heresy debates. Here are some of the posts I am sure you have already come across. Again, it is really about hearing them: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/28637.aspx ; http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/100807/1016775.aspx ; http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/71909.aspx?PageIndex=1 Again, hope all helps.
  17. Quartet Forte and Chorus are all in the same family from smallest to largest. They sound similar as do the Heresy and Cornwall. Any three of these groups would sound great across the fronts and match well with the heresy rears. I liked the Heresy between my Chorus IIs but loved the Forte. Side note: I am able to leave the center standing upright. If you need to lay the speaker on its side for a front, there are Cornwalls available for this used. Some other forums members could probably tell you more. I too love the Chorus II sound. I actually would give up my La Scalas before my Chorus IIs. I should just be happy the only Belle I have seen/heard in person had a blown tweeter so I did not fall in love. And the only Khorns I have been around were having the crossovers repaired so I have not heard them. Wish you well on your purchase and hope it all works out for you. Keep mentioning your location and maybe a forum member will come forward and have you over for a listen to some of this stuff. The Chorus v Cornwall debate is always ongoing and in the end, it is all about your ear. With what you like, I almost think you might prefer the Cornwall. But on the budget, stay away from hearing the La Scalas, Belles, or Khorns as for organ music, you would probably not want to hear anything else.
  18. I actually had a friend check out the Forte's last week for me in person. They look and sound great apparently. He considered buying them. I decided to go another route, when quartets fell into my lap. Quartet
  19. I do not know but there are two on ebay now with no bids. One can be had buy it now for $110 from Atlanta. The Fort Wayne one looked nice according to my friend. I have a black one I could part with.
  20. That is extremely high. Are you looking for one?
  21. I want to resurrect this. I am just some dumb kid but I love to throw in my $0.02. Like: Klipsch Marantz Harman Kardon Carver NAD Pepsi Dislike: Microsoft Apple Monster Bose I deal with microsoft because I have to for my work. I would love an alternative OS. Linux just won't cut it for me quite yet.
  22. The only problem with sony is it doesn't support DVD Audio. If it did, I would have most likely got a PS3 first generation that did SACD and was backward compatible with hardware to the first two playstations. I know it would not have been the best for audio playback, but at the time it would have really set a market (it already did) with a Blu Ray, SACD, DVD, DVD Audio, CD, and video game system that was backward compatible. Damn format wars for sony not having DVD Audio but it was because of the format war the Sony put a Blu Ray in the PS3.
  23. Thanks for the help. They were actually two discrete questions. I probably should have made two discussions. I will run the DVD Audio and SACD player separate for now. I have one friend whose computer said it ran the DVD Audio and Super Audio CD but it converted to stereo instead of keeping the format. If someone knew of a system that could run it from the computer, I would be interested. As for my CD and Vinyl, some have been stored on the computer in apple lossless (actually both apple lossless and flac) and I am working to get all of them onto it. I am looking for computer type to upgrade to (HDMI 1.3 or better audio output right?) as well as media player. Itunes seems to do fine for now. I have been looking at Denon, Oppo, and Marantz. Sitting on buying a Denon right now, as my other friend wants to get into the SACD and DVD Audio and I told him he can buy my Pioneer. He will not buy anything on eBay and I will so thats how it goes. I hate selling to friends just in case anything goes wrong. Thanks again for the help so far and I will continue to check back.
  24. I was wondering if anyone uses a computer for most of their audio. I love the sound of the vinyl and of the CDs, but it is also nice to have every song at your fingertips. I have an HP Pavilian Media Center now but am looking to upgrade. Anyone have any thoughts. I also have a few SACD and DVD-A (as I call them) and access to quite a number of them. Any recommendation on a newer player? Thanks for the help.
