  1. I had the RS-52 and did care for them at all...I like direct firing MUCH better! Rob you have a really big room so direct firing speakers probably helps everything to cut though. I’m not saying ones better just pointing that out. In a small room like Jason has not having all his speakers facing right at his head might have a result closer to what he’s looking for (or maybe not). Plus the RS line design is 100% surround duty and gives an open space sound that can make a room sound bigger than it is. Example an effect coming from a direct firing speaker in a small room will sound like its coming right from the speaker. The RS line doesn’t give up its position very easily it’s kind of behind, side, and in front of you. In a large room like yours that open space sound probably didn’t cut though as well. Would have probably needed the rs-62 in a room that size.
  2. Have you watched any 7.1 movies yet with the 6th speaker? Was it a pretty noticeable improvement?
  3. When I sold mine I got $400 for the rf-82 and $200 for the rc-62. Sold them to a good friend and I only paid about 60% of retail for them but I thought that was a great deal for him (he paid 800 total sold the rs-52 to). To be fair I did keep the speakers in perfect condition and had all the boxes. $500 does seem like an amazing deal but the dented speakers would bug me to much I would have to replace them.
  4. Option one would work best probably. Only running 3 channels on the avr will free up lots of power. You could do the other way to but I like option one.
  5. Well I know in the on screen set up I can change it so it only shows one rear speaker. But I guess I will have to get the manual out to see what speaker terminal to use. The star wars blu ray set comes out on the 16th the whole set is dtsma hd 6.1 so it got me thinking lol. But I do have room behind the main LP (about 12ft of room). But the room is only 12ft wide so I don’t know how much separation I would even get going 7.1 because I probably would only have them (rears) about 4ft apart. About the width of the couch. What would you guys do?
  6. What speaker terminal would you use for just a 6th speaker from your avr? What speaker output would you use on a 7.1 avr? Just wondering because I was thinking about doing 6.1 as well and I have a 7.1 avr.
  7. Jason I have owned all 3 and imo the rs-52 would be plenty but the 42 was a bit underwhelming. In your case I would go 62s (just because of your other speakers and gear) and be done if you can find a good deal on them. Maybe try and find some used rs-62. (Old model).
  8. 3db IS twice as loud, technically. The way the human ear responds to sound however, it takes 10db to be "perceived" as twice as loud http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CB0QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.decibelcar.com%2Fmenutheory%2F115.html&ei=OcVSTvmJH8XosQLHgrDCBg&usg=AFQjCNFkBKO9tlI3mspj00Qi_FtP3CoEMQ
  9. You want your front 3 speakers to be as close as possible (timbre match). You can however mismatch for now and then upgrade later as you mentioned. What is your budget and room size?
  10. Sometimes if you have a lot of room gain it can be a little more than 3db but if you have two identical subs level matched it’s always 3db. Twice as much = 3db.
  11. If the box was unopened there should be no apparent signs of damage during shipping. I also agree the missing bezel is intriquing, but if you're happy with your purchase and you have a local dealer willing to help you then you are on the right track. Here is the scuff that is only on the face in spots, I believe it was the cover sliding around....I am sure a black marker can take care of that.....do you guys think that is a big deal? I know it sucks but you should return that speaker. Just too much stuff wrong with it imo
  12. Picky, picky... Lol if I was replacing a driver I would want it to be at least mint to the eyes []
  13. I don’t like that the dust caps are dented but if you don’t mind I’m sure it will sound good maybe even better than before. (Huge fan anything speakerlab) []
  14. I think the w1200R is pretty old probably what 1973? What kind of shape are they in?
  15. Speakerlab what a great speaker in there day! I have two pairs of these (black grills though) in storage with the W12O8R drivers. Amazing bass from those speakers!
  16. Epik makes great subs and I love the empire. Chad the owner is a super nice guy who will talk your ear off and also let you talk his off. However the legend has had amp issues being too hot and shutting down (I think it’s underpowered for two 12s). It kills me to say anything bad about epik but just giving it to you straight. Tons of happy legend owners but I have just read too many problems with the amp to recommend them. Until they fix it I would go another direction. The one thing I have noticed about the big four epik/svs/hsu/ed is that there smaller models have amp issues. I would try and get a mid-sized one if possible if you can spend 900 on an empire you would be blown away. Another option would be two emo subs but they don’t reach down to that 20 -25 Hz range with much power. And for movies 20-25 Hz sounds awesome when the sub can hit it hard, and flood your room with it. Bass is a whole new addiction and after you get a taste of good bass you will want more and better. So imo if you can’t afford a mid-level (900-1200 range) new try and find one used. Not saying you won’t be happy just giving you my experience.
  17. Emo resale value says it all. They sell for almost what they cost new. In fact I could probably sell mine and make a few bucks (bought mine in dec 2010 new for $707 to my door before they raised the prices). You already saw what you get when you buy junk (no offense)
  18. If anything you want the surrounds to be to the side and behind you a bit. But if you want to keep them there I would point them toward the back a little. Looks good though man nice job! We all have room and seating restraints we deal with. So compromises are made in all are set ups.
  19. As far as I know yes, I've not read anything to the contrary. You need to try to swap wires in the speaker from one tweeter to the other and see if the problem follows the wiring (crossover) or stays with the driver. +1
  20. Keep in mind these are suggested setting for ht listing not necessarily other sources. []
