Varathane, Polyurethane, Varnish yellow with age , and they are a real pain to strip or sand , you want to protect the tops ,cover with glass

you're lucky , but these Heresy speakers are not HDBR , these are 1978 Heresy 1 HBR raw birch black , ( no grilles ) , badges are the very rare Lazer copper , the HF drivers are the Alnico K-77 round tweeter / K-55V Alnico midrange on a K-700 metal horn , woofer is the K-22 square magnet , the crossovers are E networks .

Today i connected them to an old realistic and they sounded great for a couple songs then i literally heard one speaker fade out. after an hour of one speaker the other one made some slight bass tones for about 30 sec. when one speaker is plugged into different sides the working side changes, it just wont play both L and R at the same time. I checked the connections inside the speaker and elsewhere and tighened a couple but that didnt make a difference!
the crossovers may require servicing , The capacitors are 32 years old , get yourself an ESR meter , and check the capacitors for ESR loss ,
if the ESR loss is high .......contact JEM, they sell klipsch OEM capacitors .

Steer away from Aftermarkets , always insist on klipsch original parts for your klipsch speakers.
contact JEM , they may be able to build a klipsch kit for you

rough guess here , it could be interference or static , shut the TV 1st , wait a few seconds , then shut the speakers , does it change anything ,

aside from a cap kit anything I should look to be updating?
make sure , the KG-4 woofers are in good shape , since the parts are no longer manufactured by klipsch .

new klipsch sound bars , subs , speakers , etc are covered by support and warranty during the duration of the warranty coverage period . that's the reality .anyone claiming anything different is pure gossip

if you want to buy klipsch parts , call or email @JEM Performance JEM are a klipsch Heritage Dealer , JEM stocks the K55X drivers and I'm pretty sure JEM can supply the diaphragms including the services to swap defective diaphragms with new units
