  1. For what it's worth - about 8 months ago, I sold a set of '96 Heresy II's without boxes and had to take them to one of these packaging/shipping businesses and it cost me 115.00 to ship them from VA to IL!
  2. Here is picture of two other sets of speakers I built back in the early 80's - one set was made from late 40's or early 50's Jensen cabinets and the others were built out of old Knight speakers my Grandad built in the early 60's. Back then I gave away the knight triaxial speakers! I thought these old cabinets were too pretty to go to waste, so I filled them with some horns I had laying around. The old Jensens are filled with Utah midrange horns, "off brand" bullet tweeters and Eminence woofers ported out the back. The Knight cabs were filled with Electrovoice 8HD's with 1824M drivers, Piezo tweeters (yuck!) & Peerless woofers with Pioneer 12 PR's on the back. I'll admit they sounded halfway decent for home made speakers. Nowadays, I concentrate my woodworking efforts elsewhere since I have an assortment of Klipsch heritage speakers!
  3. For what it's worth - I sold a set of oak 1985 Cornwalls (6/7 out of 10 cosmetically) about 6 months ago for 900 and I paid the 162.00 shipping costs from VA to IL via Yellow Freight. I got a discounted shipping rate through the company I work for, so I ended up paying about half the going rate for shipping.
  4. Hello Al, I saw your pictures the other day - really nice setup! Your old Cornwall ended up being sold to a guy from Fairfax, VA that already had four in a system, so it was to be the center speaker. He was really impressed with how nice it looked. We carefully stuffed it into the back seat of his Park Avenue! The other Belle ended up being a center speaker with a set of Klipschorns up in Mass. The guy that bought it had to come down to MD to a wedding, so he didn't have to go far to get it. He was also really happy with it - I had replaced the stained veneer on top and it looked nice. Three weeks ago, I picked up another set of Klipschorns ('74 models) that I found by accident and only had to drive 60 miles to get them! They grace my workshop, and have plenty of room to sing! Paul Oh, and to answer the question above asking how the Altec kornerhorns compared with Klipschorns - I never did an actual "A-B" test, but to my ears, they sounded great! My biggest blunder took place back in '94 or '95 when I traded two Altec 511b horns, 800 series drivers, Altec xovers and cast aluminum Altec 15" woofers, all in great condition for a worthless set of bookshelf speakers that I later ended up selling for 50.00. This was done for the sake of freeing up room in the small house I had at the time! I console myself by thinking of some of the great Klipsch deals I've come across recently!
  5. Kid #1 came along and my wife quit her job. In addition to selling these, I also sold some Cornwalls. It was a sad time, but the new screaming baby kept my mind off of them. LOL! Somehow, I managed to last a few years without Klipsch until 1996 when I got a single LaScala and then bought all new Klipsch components to build a second (600 worth!), which I never did. Next, a set of Belles which I sold, then a set of 1984 Klipschorns that I sold to make way for a corner fireplace in new house last year. Since then, two sets of Heresys, a set of Cornwalls and more Klipschorns. I'll never part with the latest Klipschorns! ---------------- On 12/11/2002 12:18:27 AM Jim Cornell wrote: Nice and no affence but i like mine better LOL! Why did you sell them anyway? 6. Do the files look like photographs or paintings?? I just scanned these pictures and they looked fine, albeit the strange yellow tint, until I uploaded them and from the website they look like paintings somebody made with a 6" wide brush! What did I do wrong?
  7. Here is a picture of my first "DIY" kornerhorns that I finished in 1985. They contained Altec 511b/808-8A mids, Atlas tweeters, off shelf x-overs (500, 5K, 12 Db), and specially ordered Eminence woofers. I sold them in 1987 for 900. I bought them partially assembled from my former high school geometry teacher and Klipsch "mentor" when he moved out West. He had the shop teacher cut all the wood for him! I built the upper cabinets. We both now have Klipschorns, Heresys, Lascalas, etc. Paul in VA.
  8. Please take my single Altec 511B horn off my hands! It's in fair condition, needing paint. Asking 60 plus shipping. Email if interested. I also have a front view pic, can email if interested. Thanks! Paul in VA
  9. By sheer accident, I stumbled into a pair of 1974 alnico Khorns for 550, and only had to drive an hour to get them. I had to give up my '84 Khorns last year to make room for a corner fireplace. My wife is quite happy with it and the smaller replacement Dynaco A25's. These Khorns will spend the rest of their days in the corners of my workshop (28' x 62' with 9' high poured concrete walls) Oh, forgot to mention other recent deals - KG4's (oak) with Yamaha natural Sound receiver and Equalizer for 250, Heresy 1 (1985) speakers with Denon PMA-920 amp, B & O tangental Beogram TX2 TT, Pioneer CD, Yamaha cassette, all physician owned and all for 345! Also picked up Cornwall 1's (1985) for 700, a single LaScala for 200, etc. Paul in VA
  10. Just have too much stuff - can't enjoy it all! If I had more than just 2 channel receivers, I'd definitely experience the 3 Cwalls and Heresy's together. Oh well.
  11. See my advertisement for Cornwalls, etc. http://www.audioweb.com/Ad/AdInfo.asp?adid=115492 Feedback on prices welcomed. Thanks
  12. I must have gotten a good deal last week on a pair of '84 Cornwall 1.5's listed in the local trading post for 700, and I didn't have to pay shipping. There was also an additional pair of '76 model Cornwalls listed for 650, but the owner decided to keep them. I congratulated him on his good decision, but I really wanted that pair!! Now I need to sell a nice pair of '96 Heresy II's (oak)!
  13. Thats what I was told when I picked up my single 1.5 on a trade. This message has been edited by horn player on 01-06-2002 at 08:06 PM
  14. Thanks for your Cornwall input Mike & Chris, Well, unfortunately for me, the owner of the ones I really wanted, the older ones, decided not to sell them. I congratulated him on his good decision, even though they were in great shape and only 650! So then I went on to plan "B" yesterday morning and picked up the other pair listed, a decent pair of '84 model Oak 1.5's for 700. At least I didn't have to pay shipping! Now I need to sell off a pair of '96 oak Heresy II's and some single Heritage speakers: 1985 walnut Belle, 1985 walnut Cornwall 1.5, 1985 painted LaScala.
  15. The following single speakers are available in central VA: (1) 1985 Cornwall, walnut, asking 395. (1) 1985 Belle, walnut, fair cosmetically, asking 495. (1) 1985 LaScala, painted, hanging brackets bolted onto cabinet, needs tweeter diaphram, asking 325. Feedback welcome on prices, offers considered. Located in Central VA, email if interested.
  16. There are two pairs of Cornwalls for sale within 1.5 hours of me. One pair is from 1984, the other pair is from the "70's", but I haven't reached the owner yet, so I don't know the exact year. They're similarily priced. Any comments as to which would be the best pair to get? I read a lot of advertisements boasting about alnico magnets, so would the older pair possibly have these? I hope to buy one of the pairs this weekend. Thanks!
  17. I will need to ship one Belle Klipsch speaker soon. I know it weighs 125 LBS, but does anyone happen to know what the upper and lower portions weigh separately? I understand UPS can ship a Belle in two pieces.
  18. 1984 klipschorns, walnut, 2200 obro. 1985 single Belle Klipsch, walnut, needs top veneered, will look sharp when oiled, 500 as is. 1985 single cornwall, walnut, nice speaker, 425 obro. Buyers pay shipping or pick up. ONly have original carton for the Belle. Speakers located in central VA between Charlottesville and DC, easy access to major interstates. email if interested.
  19. How much can I expect to pay to ship one 1985 Belle Klipsch speaker in the original carton? Who would be a good carrier to use (need to from VA). Thanks!
  20. I have some Khorns for sale in central VA, also have a single Belle and Lascala for sale. I sent you an email.
  21. I bought the prized Heresy's! A really nice looking pair! Will use them with the really nice Cornwall I recently took on trade - using it as a center. Now, I need to sell my '84 Walnut Khorns, single '85 walnut Belle and single '85 painted birch LaScala. Asking 2500, 650 and 500, respectively. IN process of finish restoration on Belle. See my earlier July postings for Khorn and Belle Pics. Email if interested! paul in central VA
  22. Thanks for your thoughts on this new setup. I'm in the midst downsizing - selling Khorns, one Belle and one LaScala. Just took the Cornwall on trade for one of the Belles. Trying to build a smaller setup that will sound great and take up less space. Thanks, Paul in VA
