    Cheap room treatments

Obviously they're not the best quality at that price. I would imagine they'd still help, no?
  2. Anyone looking to experiment with taming their room, here's a cheap start. Here's a 24 pack of 12"x12" for only $28 shipped https://www.walmart.com/ip/24-Pack-Acoustic-Panels-Studio-Soundproofing-Foam-Wedges-1-X-12-X-12/187922599?u1=a97eabec054211e791dc6aab85d728c40INT&oid=289955.1&wmlspartner=lw9MynSeamY&sourceid=36417790690360673939&affillinktype=10&veh=aff
  3. I bought a Marantz PM8004 a few years back. It was so good I bought 2 more. Then switched to Marantz Pre/Pro's too. I've been extremely happy with them all. I'd love to hear what you think of the PM8005. I've been currently looking at some Yamaha stuff myself. Sometimes it's not about "better", more that I just want something different. 4. Which oppo are you using? I did a lot of A/B comparison with with an ERC-2 and BDP-95. I definitely preferred the Oppo. I never turn on the tv when just playing a CD. The ERC-2 is the best player I've ever used for reading over old scratched CD's. Nothing makes it skip.
  5. Thanks. I called eBay. The automated system initiated the return. I really just wanted to ask a couple questions to cover myself. I still feel really bad because the guy is going to be out the shipping fees and the speakers will probably be even more damaged when he gets them back. Thanks. I'd like to think a seller wouldn't do that, but anything is possible. There was only one before picture which wasn't great. I worked in an electronics store a long time ago. You'd be surprised how many times equipment came out of a perfect box and was smashed, then items came out perfect from a smashed box. In the smashed boxes I suppose the packaging did its job of absorbing the impact. Packaging has come come a long way since then. If he had kept the original packaging I probably wouldn't be having this conversation.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. Yes they were shipped in the same box. I have more speakers than I know what to do with (like most of you). I just like to try new stuff. I figured if I got them for a good price I could play with them for a while and then put them on CL for about what I paid. Being damaged, that's not going to happen. If I did decide to keep them, I really don't want smashed corners. Wouldn't bother me too bad if it was on the back. Amazon had them on sale brand new for not much more.
  7. What was the outcome of your claim? I know you said after a fight they finally paid out. Did they refund the purchase amount or a percentage? How bad was the damage and did you keep the RC64? How long was the process?
  8. When I tried to file the claim I got some weird thing that the package was not eligible. I sent it to the seller, who said he filed it and they would be in contact with me. He also gave a reference number. Unfortunately he only had one poor quality before photo. I know this all really points to his fault. I always take photos before shipping audio equipment myself. Should I contact eBay or PayPal, or wait to see what UPS says?
  9. So... would it be beneficial if the outside box was damaged when someone came to inspect?
  10. I agree with this. I wouldn't think twice if the guy didn't put any effort into it. It took me 10-15 minutes to unpack them because of how much bubble wrap was around them. Assuming UPS does nothing, what next? Ship them back?Settle on an amount the damage is worth? Should I contact eBay?
  11. I could only load one picture at a time. Kudos to updating the forum, I could never load a picture in the past lol. In my very limited time with the RP-160 I'll say it did not disappoint. I compared them with speakers way out of their price range and was shocked at how close they were.
  12. After reading so many positive things about the new RP-160 I wanted to check them out. I ordered them used in like new condition from eBay. I found a pair and just bought them. Since they're a new model I just assumed they'd be shipped in the original packaging, they were not. The guy wrapped multiple layers of bubble wrap around them, with a ton of packaging tape, and stuffed the box with a ton of thick peanut type of things. The outer box looked fine, but a front corner on each got pushed in. I hooked them up briefly. They seem to play fine. I won't have time to mess with them more until tomorrow evening. UPS is the worst with this stuff. I've had much better luck with Fedex. Any advice for handling the situation? I don't want to stiff the seller. He did a good job packing. I don't think it was packed tight enough though. He filed a claim with UPS. I believe they're going to contact me and set up a time to come and inspect. I'm thinking that since the outer box looks good that they're going to deny any claim and blame the packaging. Here's a couple pics. They're not bad, but I really don't want them like this. Any advice is appreciated.
  13. This guy has been trying to sell a single RF-82ii for a long time. New in the box, so shouldn't be a problem to ship. No affiliation https://cnj.craigslist.org/ele/5934828772.html

    This guy needs emails

    You guys are the best!
  15. This guy has a bunch of random equipment listed with no pictures or prices. When I inquired about prices, I said that prices gauge interest. He went off on me calling me a low baller. I never even said a number. It's a hobby, for the right price I might have been interested. After I told him what I thought of him, he blocked me lol. I know some of you get a kick out of guys like this. Here's the listing for anyone with a little free time. http://cnj.craigslist.org/ele/5928438428.html
  16. Location? I've got a mint pair barely broken I've been storing. Afraid I'll have the same remorse if I sell lol I'm in Staten Island NY Edit: black RF-83's
  17. I've stacked them. They actually sound great stacked. However wife approval plummets lol It's probably just an optical illusion, but don't the pair in the middle look smaller? RF-5's maybe?
  18. Since everyone is listing vintage gear, I have to recommend the Marantz PM8004. It has a warm sound like some of the receivers mentioned. It has great tone controls, remote, and the modern looks and reliability of new equipment. I currently have 3 of these running in different 2 channel setups. Each one replaced much more expensive separates. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Here's an old pic from my audio room. The Sonus Fabers up front are only $1200. Piano finish with a very modern design. The B&W Nautilus 804's are 12 years old still look very modern and retailed for $3500 when new. The RF-7ii's in the corner or original RF-7 under the tv do not have the same build quality or modern look. I'm not trying to offend. I've currently got at least a dozen pair of Klipsch. Just answering your question Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Pictures of speakers or my house? LOL Either way, I'm not trying to argue. As I said, looks are personal opinion. When you get into the 3k and up speakers, you're not talking the Best Buy line up.
  21. I'd really like to know about retracting a bid. I don't think I've ever seen that. The seller could have lost out on higher bids. Also the current high bidder could have bid on something else after he saw he was outbid. If it's that easy to retract that would be easy to scam people.
  22. Looks are personal opinion. I don't think anyone would say they like the looks of the plastic fronts of RF-83's. They retailed around $2700 and you got plastic. That's pretty bad. If you go to an audio show, some of this new stuff is like a work of art. You need to upgrade your furniture. I know you guys love your heritage stuff. It's good stuff, but that 70's looking stuff would never fit in my modern home.
  23. I didn't realize you could retract a bid. These are so much speaker for the money. Close to 4K retail when new. If finish is a big deal, then these are definitely not for you. Personally I never thought any Klipsch were good looking speakers aside from the Palladiums. The front of RF-83's is basically all plastic. When I had them setup the fronts were all you saw in my setup. I woudnt waste my time refinishing these. I'd add some wood filler and paint them with an industrial rhino liner type of paint. That would be cheap and easy. Maybe add new grills. If they were in my basement I wouldn't even care. You could part these out and make a killing. I've got too many projects going right now I would have bid myself.
  24. Someone buy these so I don't have to. Unfortunately they are really beat up, but I'm sure they still sound great. Could be a project or perfect for behind a screen or a very dark room. Considering condition, local pick up, and time left.... these should go cheap https://www.ebay.com/itm/322310079963
