  1. HT is one of the most demanding applications for speakers to deliver their bang for the bucks. Klipsch Jub can hit 105db at 12 ft. with only 7watts of power. In contrast the The KL 650-THX and RB 81 need 84 and 168 watts repsectively to reach 105db at 12ft. We are always talking about this speaker or that amp/avr and is it right for my setup. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1387083, this is a nice thread on the avs forum on, List of Reference Level, High Sensitivity & SPL, Low Distortion Speakers. It beg the question, what is the big deal? I often wondered what kind of theater experience I was getting compared to what the movie makers intended. For example, if I need a 105 db peak in a movie can I really get it? Or that very loud and really meam distortion is at play or will something be played at 85db due to my amp/speaker match. I am happy with what I have, but this thread made me look at things in a different light. This thread makes me look at the amplification side of my system and the sensitivity of my speakers in a new light. Some good objective data is always helpful in bring things into focus. Maybe these old guys with the Heritage stuff know something that I don't,[]

    sub advice

The sub you have is a pretty nice one, good specs. Look at at least some 15in subs or larger or you may not feel that you have made an upgrade. What are you looking to spend? One thing, hold on to the one you have and use dual subs. Are you looking for more LF extension for movies or more bang in the 30-50Hz range, or a more musical type sub?
  3. A can of worms eh. Time to go fishing for acronyms and terms that can't be measured by science.[]

  5. Everytime I check the web page it at $499.00. Is their a promo code or coupon?
  6. My HT is in the family room and I designed it to sound nice where ever you sit. So, I did not stick to the rules for a sweet spot. The surrounds are slightly behind the main listening spot up high and the surround back is cover by VF 35 towers on the floor, and I let autocalibration takecare of the adjustments. It is a trial and error thing due to room interaction. I think without a dedicated theater room, some slight compromise is needed.
  7. I have my VS 14's near the ceiling and can hear them very well as surround speakers. I perfer them high to space out the sound effect more. They are also heard in multi-channel music as well. This is the exact opposite of my first experience with Front Height speakers which I never heard. I even stood on a chair once to see if they were working, lol. I think it all depends on the room and location of the other speakers. I changed Front Height speakers and location and now I hear them all the time. DPIIz is my most used setting for tv and dvd. BD are played in their native format.
  8. Replace the woofer if it is only $42. That's a great looking speaker and I know you want it to look good!
  9. Very nice article on what is actually achieved with bi-amping. Passive x-o waste a lot energy and decrease the overall headroom in a system. The voltage demands were explained very well and also lend support on why people used power amps in comparison to some avr's. Bi-wiring has a very small benefit compared to bi-amping. The theorectical benefits of bi-wiring may not reach the auditory threshold to be appreciated. Bi-amping takes a little skill to do correctly and should be given some thought befor venturing into that next level of audio Nirvana. It is interesting how much money people will spend on speakers and skimp on the power part of the equation. I remeber reading, spend 1/3 of the budget on the power side of the system. Thanks Chris!
  10. The LFE or .1 channel is a production channel for sound engineers to put the low frequency sounds in. The hpf only let's frequencies above the setting pass to the tweeter and the lpf only let's frequencies blow that setting pass to the woofer. If speaker are set to small the bass limited speakers will have their low frequencies sent to the sub. If some of the speakers are set to large, they will receive the full range of frequencies and the redirected bass along with the LFE. Bass management is done through the avr when all speakers are set to small. To get all the LFE, the sub should have the x-o all the way up or turn it off. The lpf and hpf are not brick walls and have a slop on frequency decay that leaks through. The x-o in the avr should be set 10 db higher than the weakest speakers frequency response.
  11. I know how you feel: I seen a you tube video on fixing that dent with tape. I will see if I can find it. Others may beat me to the quick fix. No need for a new driver. Cheer up, just keep the grill on(joking).[]
  12. Nice setup, the Pioneer SC 57 is a nice way to run your system. All I can say is enjoy and thank you for your service.
  13. Cask05, that is consistent with what I have read and never tried it up to now, lol. Maybe it is placebo effect? I am lost for words on why DLPXII music and the system sounding better with the MCACC on compared to before. For now I am just going to leave since I am lazy today. That was a great post on the benefit of bi-amping. Thanks!
  14. The similar performance of the various sub is the reason I posted this. This re-enforces my belife that room placement and intergration are key factors in getting good bass. Not withstanding, these are all very nice subs. The use of two to 4 sub with give you better distribution of the bass in a room. Two subs will get you 70 to 80% of the benefit of 4 subs depending on the room. The 30-60Hz range from a good sub(s) add so much more energy to movies and music. It is all about moving air.
  15. Which Yamaha and Pioneer avr's are you looking at? The quality can vary widely from the top to the bottom in avr's. What size room do you have? You should not need to switch off the center speaker if the center fits your set of speakers and the avr is setup correctly.
  16. This type of problem is the reason when I purchased a couple of use Yamaha M 70 amps in Jan., I immediately took them to a shop and had them checked out. I did replace some caps, and other components and had the units set back to factory specs. I did not mine spending the extra money because I plan on keeping them for a while. Cap replacement may not be to much if you feel the amp is worth it. A more knowledgable Klipsch forum member guided me through the purchase, restoration and operational setup of the amps.
  17. I wonder does bi-amping work because it force people to bi-wire correctly. I don't think this is the only benefit of bi-amping with an electronic x-o. With that said, I decided to bi-wire my speakers today since I had extra speaker wire and it would only cost me time. My highs and lows are more distinctive. No, I had not been drinking, lol. I don't know if it has something to do with the jumper removed and improved current flow to the woofers, the negative effect of the impedance traveling to the woofers and tweeter through the same wire, or reduced interaction between the two x-o's. It may even be a slight time delay between the drivers. Before, I always thought music sounded better with MCACC disengaged. After the bi-wiring, it sounds better using MCACC. I guess everyone has to try things for themselves and decide is it better, no difference, or worse. This one leaves me puzzled.
  18. From my understanding, that is the only that has a clear benefit. The need for separate amps has to be give serious consideration due to cost benefit ratio. Bi-amping seems most suited for those that do critical music listening.
  19. kde, that was fine. I just wanted to hear your honest thought on the Pioneer and UMC1, Thank![Y]
  20. They did some very objective measurement and the subs were appropiately matched. It would be nice to see some of the Klipsch subs in a shootout. I thinks some them would perform very respectable.
  21. The is an FYI post for comparions on these sub. It is well done and may help shed light on the real differences with these sub/manufacturers All of the subs used in the shoot out are great and the post is informational and not intended to slam one sub over another. The question comes up frequently on this forum, what sub should I get? This is a great read when you have a little time. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1313176&highlight=sub+shootout, AVS Forum, Madaeel,[SHOOTOUT! 22. A little off topic, but was the picture quality or sound much different from your Pioneer Elite. Or, the features between the two units. Even with similar sound and picture quality, features make a difference when it comes to easy of operation and synergy with your system. I have been been happy using the Pioneer as a pre-amp. For most of us this is a cheaper route to go when entering the pre- pro equipment arena. Just want to pick your brain a little.
  23. I know this is not about only what we need, but our wants also. I second the sub for impact of the HT. I bet you have a great pic already. The AT screen would be an entirely new dimension in your setup!
  24. Yes, the old yamaha amps are know as lengendary amp. They were made with all the best part, beside the speaker connection terminals. They have been compared to McIntosh. They are powerful and don't seem to have problems with ground loops, hiss, gain, or distortion. My M 70 have better control of my speaker than my avr and you can hear a pin drop between songs. I liked them so much I had them set back to factory specs with new caps and resistors. You don't have to do that, but I plan on keeping mine for awhile.http://legendaryamps.com/latest.html, http://www.audioreview.com/cat/amplification/amplifiers/yamaha/m-85/prd_116248_1583crx.aspx
