  1. According to on of the dealers I have bought equipment from, a progressive scan DVD player will not have any notable gain in picture quality on a "standard" TV. With that said, if you do not have one then I would go ahead and get one with progressive scan for any future TV upgrade. If you do have a DVD player now, then I would not upgrade just for progressive scan.
  2. Likewise where can one find a sub cable which is FLAT so that it may be run under a rug on a hardwood floor with no padding? I would like to put a sub in the back of my room for my rear surround speakers.
  3. Nice unit! Looks like excellent fit and finish in the picture. BTW, where is the sub placed?
  4. I have the same fronts and center as you do and I use a pair of KSP-S6s for rears. With that said my suggestion would be if you have both the Fortes and the Hereseys to try why not just hook them up and try them and let your ears be the judge. Ultimately it is our own ears that tell us wether one set of speakers sounds better than another. Enjoy!
  5. Glad to know about the Chorus II vs. the KLF-20s since I have the Legends (and a pair of Epic CF-1s) and I have been considering getting a pair of Chorus/ChorusIIs or a pair of Fortes(since someone in my small town wants to sell his Fortes (I do not know wether they are I or IIs)). Can anyone give any comparison on Chorus vs Fortes?
  6. Brad, I have a pair of CF-1s that I love which are not in my home theater room now. I use KLF-20s, but I really like the CF-1, especially for music. Anyhoo, The correct center is the KV-4(which I would like to have too) but they are hard to find. A KLF-C7 will work fine IMHO. As for surrounds I would probably go with the Rs-7s over the Rs-3s because of the lower bass response and higher sensitivity. RS3s 57hz RS-7s 49hz RS3s 95dB/1wt/meter RS-7s 98dB/1wt/meter CF-3 35hz CF-4 34hz CF-3 100dB/1wt/meter CF-4 102/1wt/meter Other surrounds would be a pair of used KSP-S6s which would work OK IMHO. These are no longer made but they come up on e-bay at times. I am thinking about moving my CF-1s into my home theater room so let me/us know what you end up with and how it sounds. aab
  7. I am glad to hear that JT has a SACD cd out now. I am a huge JT fan. Now all I need is a SACD player! I am thinking about a Sony SACD/DVD/CD 5-disk changer. Are there any opinions on this model-DVC650(?) or do any other companies make a "all inclusive" player in the $500 or less range? aab
  8. DEAM Deaf Ear Arrogant Mouth I met Avman this weekend and he is a great guy aab
  9. Don't know anything about the HK but I really like my Marantz MM9000. I have had it for about a year with no problems and the sound through my KLF20s, C-7, and KSP S-6s is really smooth. aab
  10. boa Yes it is only with the pink niose generated from my pre/pro that the sub will not register with the sub but I have not tried it with a set up disk. I thought pink noise covered all the frenquencies so I do not understand why I have to turn up the sub way to loud by ear for the spl meeter to register. which brings me to Ray's post: uhhh....ok? Well I guess I could say that if I walk around the room without the meeter the bass does not get any louder using the pink noise.
  11. Title says it all. I am looking for a kv-4 (in walnut if it was made that way) to go with a pair of CF-1s in case I decide to ever swap them into my HT room to replace the KLF20s i use now. I have a C-7 but it probably would not match the CF-1s as much as the KV-4. I really like the sound of the CF-1s. To me they are more musical than the KLFs. If I do not swap them I might use them with an A/B speaker switch for surrounds for 5.1 music. Would this sound ok with the KLF20s? Out of currosity, what surrounds would work best if I used the CF-1s for mains? I have S-6s on sides and a C-5 in rear(with the other stored). Thanks for any help anyone can give me. aab
  12. I agree with avman. I have S-6s for side surrounds and (for the time) S-5s for the rear center. I like the S-6s very much. One suggestion I might have is to get a C-7 for the front center and move the C-6 to the rear center which I believe would match the S-6s better than the C-7. Theaters use direct radiating speakers for surrounds but they use multiple speakers. This effect is somewhat duplicated by WDST speakers. The rear center is a matrix off the sides so it does not have to be a WDST speaker. Some people do like direct radiating surround speakers for movies and that is great. It depends only on your personal taste. Direct radiating surround speakers are better in my opinion for 5.1 music. aab
  13. Keith, I thought it was pretty good!!! GO VOLS!!!! Oh, and by the way... GO REBS!!!! I went to both schools, graduated from TN, and I have season tickets to Ole Miss. Hotty Toddy aab
  14. Speaking of which, I have one of these and when I try to set up my sub with it it barley reads even when "C" weighted(32hz-10,000hz). I have a KSW200 which only goes down to 29hz so I am not missing too much pink noise that my sub can not handle. The only way I can make it register anywhere close to 75db is by turning the sub gain wayhigh. What am I doing wrong? aab
  15. Ears, You still don't have your RF7s yet?!?
  16. t-man what's in that spray? aerosol cocaine? Send me two cans---I'll send you a check after they get here. aab
  17. J The actual link Marantz sends you to for their closeout deals is: http://www.accessories4less.com Look under MANUFACTURER-"Marantz" AV9000=$999.77 This message has been edited by aab3rd on 10-16-2001 at 08:32 PM
  18. I currently use the Marantz MM9000 and a MA6100 for 6.1 surround system. They are both excellent units. I understand that the AV9000 is an excellent unit but I have only herd one in a store. It is only good for 5.1 surround by itself. I use a Parasound Preamp with a Parasound 6.1CSE center suround expander to matrix the rear center from the two surround chanels. This set up works fine. You can check this out at Parasound.com. The 6.1 CSE will work with any unit with discrete surround outputs. I have seen the AV9000 new for under $1000 through a link on Marantz's web sight. http://www.parasound.com This message has been edited by aab3rd on 10-16-2001 at 12:32 PM

    Video help

EARs Thanks for the reply, but I really did not give ya'll (Tennessee term) all the info. The signal is somewhat OK on a TV in our kitchen with a shorter run. The cable upstairs is what is a lot worse. It is not unbearable with a booster on it now just before the TV but it could be better. There are only two TVs on the cable in our house, but our line comes off a three way splitter for our house and the house next door. Also, downstairs The Movie Chanel (ch2) comes in fine but upstairs it has a lot of squiggly white lines in it. This is why I want a signal tester and then a booster geared for how much boost I need upstairs.

    Video help

My video signal is terrible comming from my (free)cable. I have a signal booster on it in my HT room but it still does not pick up the upper chanels really clearly. What kind of meeter do I need to test the signal strength so I can see if I need more overall boosting or get one with "tilt" on it boost the upper chanels only. Also, where can I get one. I tried RatShack.com but I could not find one. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. Steve I used to use the S-5 with my system. KLF 20 Mains KLF C7 Center KSP S6 Surrounds(now) They were not bad, but the S-6s are better if you can find them. Also, after being rebuked on another thread I understand that the RS7s are a better match than the S-6s. I am now using a S-5 for my rear center until I can afford to get another C-7. aab
  22. Definitly go with the KLF-C7 for center. As far as surrounds you could also try to find some KSP-S6 surround speakers. They can be pricy(or not) depending on where you find them (dealer with old stock or on e-bay etc.). I bought mine from a dealer who wanted to get rid of them since he quit handeling Klipsch and I paid $375. You can find them on internet sometimes and they range from $350 to $600 for a pair. These were the original speakers meant to match the KLF line. KLF 20 mains KLF-C7 center KSP-S6 Rears KSF-S5 Rear center (for now) Parasound AVC1800 pre amp Parasound CSE6.1 rear center expander THX EX/DTS ES Marantz MM9000 5X150 amp Marantz MA6100 Rear center amp
