  1. I have somewhat of the same question. I sold an Academy and other speakers to help with my son's medical bills. I decided to keep my Forte Is, to the disdain of a forum member (which I am sorry for). Since I have now acumulated enough money from the sale of speakers, a motorcycle, and other items to help pay for medical expenses, I am going to buy a center speaker for my Fortes. I know about the Academy, KLF-C-7, and KV-4, and that to most that have auditioned both the KV-3 works better with the Fortes than the KV-4. What I want to know is wether anyone has used a KSF-C5 or KSP-C6 for a center with Fortes and espically wether they have compared them to the KV-3. Also, I would like to hear from people who have used both an older center and a newer center like the RC-3(II). Which is better match with Fortes? I know (from experience) that the Academy is best. I just want opinions about the KV-3, KSP-C6, KSF-C5 and the RC-3 or RC-3II. Which works best since ALL of these go for less than the Academy!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Thanks for the kind words muleman. Austin

  7. A 9 volt battery under the back of mine works well on top of my 55" Hitachi TV.
  8. I have a friend that has one that he wants to sell. I bought a pair of Fortes from him and they are in great shape. I saw the sub and it is in good shape as well. I think he wants $225 for it. I know that he does not have the original box. PM me if interested and I will let him know.
  9. http://www.monarchyaudio.com 25 watts of class A power. Use one of these with a tube pre and I believe you would be in bliss.
  10. How about just running with a phantom center until funds are available.
  11. After the fiasco with the Academy, I am thinking of using a Heresy II as a center for my Fortes. I would like to split a pair of walnut oiled Heresy IIs with someone if interested. E-mail me @ aab3rd@bellsouth.net if interested or PM me. Thanks, Austin

    HEARTBROKEN

Here is the link to the one I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14992&item=3004914379 The person who I bought it from posted about wanting to sell it here under the username dnelon. It was plainly damaged due to poor packaging by the business who he used to pack and ship it. I have had UPS pick it up for inspection. I hope I do not get screwed.
  14. I had a pair of CF-1s until just reciently. They were my first pair of Klipsch speakers. There is no GREAT match for rears for the Epic line except another pair of epic speakers. A lot of people do not have room for floor standing rear speakers so you will have to compromise if that is the case. Klipsch's WDST speakers such as the RF-7 or the older KSP-S6s would be an OK match. You could also go with a pair of KV-4s (the true center for the epic line) if you could find them. My suggestion, if you find one though, is to put it to use as your center channel since it is a better match than the KLF-C7. Hope this helps, Austin
  15. Along the same lines, I had KLF-20 in my HT and bought a pair of Forte Is. After listening to both I decided to replace the KLFs with the Fortes because they sounded better with music. They were smoother as tony's post stated about the 30s vs. Chorus.
  16. I bought a pair of Fortes a while back because they were a good deal ($400) and decided to replace my KLF 20s with them since I liked the sound of the Fortes better for music. Before I put them in my HT an ACADEMY came up for sale on e-bay. You know how rare that is. Low and behold I won the Academy. After a delay in shipping since the owner is away on business a lot, it finally arived. I tore open the box with great eagerness. After pulling the speaker out, I found out IT WAS DAMAGED IN SHIPPING. Four of the corners were dinged, there was a ding on the top back edge, and a CRACK down the back side of the speaker. I am now sending it back for reimbursement. THANKS UPS!!! You know, this is terrible when there are so few of these out there. It ought to be against the law. The search continues. BTW the KLF 20s and C-7 I have are for sale.
  17. I run the 950 with a Marantz MM9000 and a MA6100. I used KLF 20s (which have changed to Fortes) and I thought that the sound was great. To clean up some space I am thinking of selling the two Marantz amps and get the Outlaw 7100 (7 X 100w) amp when it comes out the end of this month or the beginning of next month. 100 watts should be enough to drive the Fortes to extreme levels without any problem. If I do this, I will post a comparison review.
  18. Actually, Keith, I thought they recomended the RS-7s. I might be wrong though. I use a pair of KSP-S6s and they work great. There is a pair on E-bay right now. BTW I just got an Academy off of E-bay so I am selling my KLF-C7 if anyone is interested. I am going to use a pair of Fortes for my mains and sell my KLF-20s as well.
  19. I have a Sunfire MK II for sale on Audiogon. Listed at $800 but will take $750. I have original box and manual. Only had it about nine months. Perfect condition. Austin
  20. Actually, DTS ES has two versions-DTS ES Matrix and DTS ES Discrete. DTS ES Matrix is encoded such that the rear center is matrixed into the side surround signal and then decoded in the processor. DTS ES Discrete has a separate discrete channel for the rear center. DD EX (and THX EX) are encoded like DTS ES Matrix. The signal for the rear center is encoded into the side surround channels and decoded in your processor. The matrix process for DD EX/THX EX and DTS ES Matrix is similar to the old Pro-Logic encoding for the center channel except that the signal encoded into the sides is a full bandwith channel. There is not much out there in DTS ES Discrete. Most disks encoded in DD/DTS 5.1 can be played in DD EX or DTS ES Matrix with varying quality of results for a rear center even though they are not encoded in EX/ES.
  21. I have a pair of CF-1s on e-bay which you could use as front and rear center. aab3rd
  22. Yep, that is me, and the speakers are flawless. I am also going to sell my KLF-20s and C-7. I am going to go with my Fortes since I like the sound from them a little better than the KLFs, but just a little. I do like the walnut finish on my Fortes better than the black ash of my KLFs. If anyone is interested in the KLFs let me know.
  23. How about the nOrh Se-9 integrated amp for $399 shipped. It is a EL 34 based amp with two imputs and volume control. I think I am going to get one to get into tubes with the Fortes I just bought. Colin has tested one of these but I have not seen a full review. www.norh.com
  24. Shoe, I have a Sunfire MKII for sale. I will let The Ears tell you about it so as not to try to "sell" it to you. It is a great sub but I am giong to get something with a wood veneer so as to match a pair of walnut Forte Is I just bought. If interested e-mail me at aab3rd@bellsouth.net or PM me. It is in perfect condition with box and manual and it was bought from an authorized dealer in Memphis, TN.
