I have asked this question before but I thought I would throw it out there again since we are on the topic. When I play a dvd in DD 5.1 it sounds great, but of course if you have a disc with DTS and its supposed to sound better, you naturally want to hear for yourself. Well when I play a disc in DTS the sound comes out of 2 out of 5 speakers. I took the HK 500 to an authorized service center and they could not reproduce the symptom. So I am assuming its the JVC dvd player. Anyone heard of this before? Thanks for any input. SSeymour, Have you looked at Parts Express? Their drivers and boxes dont look great but they carry software titles that deal with calculating box volumes etc. when building your own speakers. That probably isnt much help but nobody else is answering your question. Good luck. Dan

Well I have a different little problem. When watching TV at what I would consider a medium volume level, the amp cuts out as if on auto shutoff. If I turn it up for a moment she kicks back on. Any suggestions besides watching TV louder or just switching the amp to "on" versus "auto"?

Hey Boa, How long have you had your Velo? Did you audition lots of others? It seems to me to be the best combo of size and performance. I have the JBL that everyone is getting and finally got it hooked up on Saturday. It sounds much better than the KSW-12 but this thing is big, maybe too big. Would love to get the HGS-18 someday but I cant scrape together 2K right now. Anyway, thanks for any comments. Dan

Hey EARs, How does the Sunfire Signature compare to the Velo HGS 18 ?

Well the JBL's arrived and now I am trying to arrange delivery from my office to my house. That is a Big box. I commented in another thread that if I am not blown away by the sound of this cabinet, I may sell and look for something smaller than the JBL but more powerful than my KSW-12. I have been making measurements around the equipment in the front of the room(do ya think I shoulda' done that before buying?)and its going to look a little imposing. Oh well, I will just have to take her home and audition her before deciding what to do.

Ok TheEAR, let me ask you another way. I currently have 4 Heresys, Academy center and KSW-12 in a room that is 14 feet x 28feet and 9 feet high. I think the KSW-12 strains a little in a room that size at higher volume levels. By the way, I just got the JBL but havent opened the box yet. Its pretty big. If I am not completely blown away by the JBL, I think I will sell it and start saving for something that is powerful but in a reasonably sized box. Mark II or Sub Junior will be enough for a room that size? Thanks Dan

Fellow sub-humans: Is it just a matter of "ya get what ya pay for" or is one of these Sunfire models a better bang for the buck? I am waiting for JBL's to arrive but still exploring other options. Dan

MH It was always my impression that the LaScala and the Belle are sonically nearly identical. The only difference being in the shape of how the bass horn is folded. I also thought the mid horn is the same in both. Dan

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get a tracking number or some other estimate for arrival time for these JBL's? I know they were shipped based on the one conversation I have had with JBL but I neglected to inquire if there is a way to keep track of the shipping process. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan

Heres another question from a rookie. Can you just split the output from the sub out jack infinitely? I mean if someone wanted to run 3 different subs, do you just keep splitting it? Is there any performance hit? Also, if you have a choice between having the amp close to the pre amp and having a longish run of speaker wire or having the amp near(or on) the speaker with a long connection between amp and pre amp, which is preferable? Well guys I just couldnt resist. I ordered the JBL 4638 yesterday afternoon and the Parts Express amp just now. I am really excited to hear this thing complement my Heresys. Can I get by without buying a crossover or does the PE amp already do that job?

Thanks JMon. And now I have to seriously ponder parting with some more loot since you guys have me convinced that this is the bargain of the century! For the record, so I have this right, its sort of big and it requires an external amp?

I am consistently amazed at the depth of knowledge in here so I thought I would pose this idea. What are your thoughts (everyone) on ranking the most talked about subs in here. I know room size makes a huge difference as does your personal mix of music and ht but with regard to spl vs depth etc, how do the big names rate against one another. Lets say I had $1500 to spend on a sub to go with my Heresys. Sun Sig, Velo HGS series, SVS, I know I am forgetting about 10 other brands but you get the picture. Thanks for any input. Dan

HornEd, That was quite possibly the most dignified response to a somewhat snotty comment that I have ever seen. Very well said. On another note, could you educate me on the number of speakers you are able to utilize in your system? I have basic 5.1 and I am a little new to this so you might have to simplify things just a bit. Does your receiver have 8.1 outputs? It seems like you have 8 speakers plus the subs. Is it me or is this crazy hobby we all have a constant process of upgrading? Oh well I guess there are worse hobbies.

Hello to all. I am usually in the HT section or powered subwoofers but I digress. Has anyone seen the Cornwalls currently on Ebay? They look a pretty ratty and I was wondering if anyone else has seen them or if anyone is contemplating the job they will require. I guess what I am asking is...I would love a pair of Cornwalls but really cant afford a pair that is mint. Is this a nightmare job?
