  1. So this cable will give the gift that keeps on giving.... herpes?
  2. Perhaps it is driving their costs up. I have no clue what a company has to spend to get it included in each of their products, but I imagine it does have the potential to increase prices. And no matter how good the automatic room correction gets, it's only ever going to be a band-aid for a bigger problem that would be better solved through the use of bass absorbency and other room treatments. In all honesty, I would rather pay for higher quality components (especially when it comes to the DAC and DSP) and just use an SPL meter as well as the aforementioned room treatments. I think it would give bigger bang for the buck as well as correcting the actual problem.
  3. That is so tempting of a deal Roaddog. I've been saving my pennies for an XMC-1, but now you are making my life very difficult.
  4. Perhaps the Onkyo is throwing out some sort of interference? Have you gotten different cables and tried it yet? Is it still happening? If it is still happening, before you get it all boxed up, I recommend calling Emo Tech Support. They are fantastic in helping with all my UMC-1 problems. And if the tech guy doesn't know about something, he will go find someone that does instead of just giving some BS answer which I also like a lot. Also, I am pretty curious about something. If you have tried hooking your fronts to the XPA-5 and compared them to the XPA-2, what kind of differences are you hearing? I am really on the fence about getting an XPA-2 for mine, but not many people have shared their thoughts on the XPA-2 vs the XPA-5 for fronts.
  5. Emotiva doesn't have any resellers, probably to cut out the middle man and keep prices low. You might have some luck if you call them to see if they have any b-stock/refurbs available. Chances are there won't be any UPA-500s because it is a brand new item, but it never hurts to ask. Who knows, they might have a pretty cheap xpa-5 for you. Other than that, the only way to find one is ebay/audiogon/garage sale thread here. You might even have some luck posting a wanted ad in the garage sale thread here.
  6. The UPA-500 would be a good bet. If in the future you feel you aren't doing your 82's justice, you can always get an XPA-2 (2 Channel Amp w/ 300 watts per channel) for them and the UPA-500 would be plenty for the center, surrounds, and rear surrounds. The XPA-2 would also give you much more headroom on your fronts as well than an XPA-5 would. The beauty of amps is they come in lots of different varieties and because they last a long time, they hold their value quite well also. This makes it easier financially to integrate them into your system a little at a time as you can afford it.
  7. My friend in Australia bought a few ice cube trays online, but the company wouldn't ship to Australia so she had them sent to me so I could ship them to her. I took them to a UPS Store. They wanted 140$ to ship them to australia. The package was maybe a pound at the most. USPS wanted 40$. Not sure why there was such a big difference, needless to say though, even 40$ was way too much to spend on an icecube tray. Shipping can be quite ridiculous.
  8. I am looking forward to it. Hopefully the shipping process goes smoothly and you receive your stuff damage free!
  9. I had the VF-35s matched with an RC-62 center for about 2 and a half years. I thought it sounded pretty good. To my ears, there wasn't a huge difference.
  10. There would be nothing wrong with using the Onkyo you previously mentioned. The UMC-1 is a very good processor for it's price, but it does have a few quirks like taking a while for the audio signal to come through when switching sources. You might lose that first 10 seconds of audio on the first preview on whatever movie you are watching. Other than that, I find the sound quality to be amazing. Being in Australia, I am not sure how much use you could get out of all the features the Onkyo has packed in, so you could possibly be paying for a lot of stuff you can't use as well, which is something else to keep in mind. That Onkyo is pretty expensive, if you are a DIYer, you may also have better luck with the UMC-1 and treating your room with bass absorbers etc. with the money you'd save So far though with the RF-7ii's behind the XPA-1s, you are off to a fantastic start. You may also want to look into adding another sub as well. That RSW-10 may not be able to keep up.
  11. 7.1 Receivers are pretty much the industry standard now. You wouldn't pay much extra, if any, for going with a 7.1 receiver from a 5.1 with the same specs. I would really check out Emotiva. You could get a UMC-1 and a UPA-500 for right around your price range. At that pricepoint, it would blow anything else out of the water, especially if you can sell the upgrade card which should go for around $175 (which would put you around 723$), while offering you better future proofing than getting a stand-alone receiver. The guy I bought my speakers from was selling his 82ii's for 650$ for a pair. You could easily fit those into your budge as well if you are patient and wait for a deal to pop up again. Paired with the Emotiva gear I named above would give you an excellent start to your system and should leave you plenty to work with to find a RC-62, a sub, and a pair of RS-42/52s. As far as the system you named, it would work, but I think most wouldn't be happy with the performance, especially if you are listening to 40% music or action movies. I would also recommend finding an authorized klipsch dealer you can to to listen to some of these speakers. For all we know, the 52's may be perfect for you. Or the 82s would sound better enough to you, that you would rather save your pennies for a few months to get them instead. The worst thing you can do is make your purchase and immediately be wondering "what if" if you had gone with the 82s.
  12. I bought a pair of the image s4 a while ago from Best Buy. I don't use them often, but when I do, I have an extremely hard time getting a good seal, and was never able to keep the seal when moving around. I've had the most luck with the larger ones, but I am wondering for others who have had this problem, which set of ear tips did you have the most luck with? I am leaning towards the large double-flange, has anyone had much luck with this specific size when nothing else seems to have worked? It seems I have always had trouble keeping any ear-buds in, but the s4 sound so great to me when I can get it sealed, I must have more!
  13. What are you trying to say dtel? That I am unattractive? Judging from your pic, you could be my father haha
  14. Once in a while, they will have a good sale on a blu-ray I want or something. I don't think I would ever buy anything big there except maybe a TV. Their TV prices seem to be pretty similar to what is available online. And they do price match but it can be pretty iffy by the store. I've heard people say that Best Buy will sometimes change or add a number/letter onto the end of the SKU so it doesn't match whatever you are trying to price match to it, so they don't have to give it to you for what the other store is selling.
  15. My gamertag is Trenticle if anyone cares to play some modern warfare 3. It's about all I play anymore when I am on.
  16. How do you guys think the PB13-ultra would stack up against an RT-12d? They are both similarly priced, but the RT-12d aesthetics would obviously better match my RF-83s.
  17. As long as they know the truth about Bose, they should be okay.
  18. Long story short, in your current situation, the best bang for your buck would be to upgrade speakers first, than start looking at amps. As a side note though, I believe Emotiva is offering their XPA-5 for 10% off, which puts it 110$ more than the XPA-3. It's the exact same amp, but with two extra channels. It would be much more future proof for you.
  19. Keep the 62s, save up for some RF-7s or RF-83s, put those in front, and retire the 62s to rear surrounds.
  20. I believe, and please correct me if I am wrong, is instead of hooking the LFE and Front preouts into your amp, you can put them through the USP-1 first, from your pre/pro or receiver. That way, anyone can integrate the USP-1 into their system, instead of having to either by a second amp or keep swapping cables around. And because it is a bypass, I would think the high-pass and low-pass settings you can set via the control knob on the back of the USP-1 should have no baring on the crossovers you setup in your HT pre/pro.
  21. Thanks for the input. I was browsing Craigslist last night and happened across an extremely well priced Elliptical. Bought it, took it home and set it up in my theater room, turned a movie on, and I was pretty impressed at how easy it was to forget you are actually working out, which is what I was looking for. Also, Kate Beckinsale is much hotter in Underworld than I remember when it first came out. Looking forward to seeing the rest now.
  22. I have a Kinect and I tried the Wii. It's fun for a few minutes, but I quickly finding myself wishing I was just listening to music or watching a movie instead, which is exactly what I would have been doing anyway. I figure if I am going to be sitting there watching a movie or listening to music, I mine as well be doing something to better myself. I can only take so much of watching a cartoon version of myself doing the same workout I am doing. I guess I was really trying to get an idea of what brand would be decent if I was going to spend a few hours of time on one. Was hoping someone around here had tried something similar. And they are different Edmund, but they serve pretty close to the same purpose for what I am looking for.
  23. So here is a question that likely has never been asked here. And maybe I am asking in the wrong place... Anyway, long story short, about 8 months ago, I quit my job as a Meat Cutter because I just graduated and got a degree in software development. The Meat Cutting job was fairly physically demanding and kept me somewhat in shape. Since, I have been sitting down for about 9 hours a day at work, then coming home to sit down about 4-5 more doing websites on the side to keep my HT fund growing and spending time enjoying my HT, and have put on quite a bit of weight. So I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as far as buying an elliptical or workout bike here to put in an HT room. Two things that are important to me is it is comfortable if it is a sit down bike one, and a lot have the display to show calories lost... etc. I don't want it and I don't want to know, I just want to forget I am exercising while watching a movie. Usually that display sits right in the way of the movie and makes it very hard to forget what I am actually doing.
