  1. I am blown away, that looks great! It's already a nice sized room, but that star ceiling opens it up and really makes it look so much bigger than it really is. Also great job with the decor, that lighting is perfect. That is just too nice looking. I bet if you ever sell your home, that is going to be a huge selling point as well lol.
  2. I hope he doesn't owe too much on the business. People have lost their homes and more due to failing businesses. It's gotta be rough for people who had unfilled orders with them.
  3. Congrats on the purchase! They are known to have some issues with the DirecTV DVR, but if it's too much, it will still be a good decision based solely on the upgrade card. Setup is very straightforward, and I think you shouldn't have any problems. Also the sub issue shouldn't be a problem. Apparently there is enough bandwidth to split it 6 times before any loss of resolution occurs.
  4. Its not too hard to figure out. Their menu system is actually set up quite nicely. I would expect there to be a ton of cheap umc-1s on the market including mine in a few monthshere if you plan on getting one and not the xmc-1 or rmc-1. I bet those 83's blew away those bookshelfs you had lol.
  5. That's an interesting setup. Do the 83's sound really good still with all your other speakers having a larger tweeter?
  6. Grats to both of you! I've always had so much respect for both sets of my grandparents which thankfully I still have because they have been together for so long. With the younger generation, you just don't see that anymore. It's kind of scary to think about where this is heading, and one has to wonder why things are becoming the way they are with all the failed marriages. So for a single guy like myself, it's always a pleasure knowing it's still possible to have something like that . 34 years is quite an accomplishment! I just pray that when I find mine, she likes my HT hobby as much as I do lol
  7. Sounds like you got yourself a wonderful family! I just seen they posted another pic of yours. Klipsch is showing you some love!
  8. There could be some resonating issues with your sub at a certain frequency, which is causing Audyssey to think that it's a lot louder than it really is, so it's trying to equalize it by bringing everything else down. I would recommend doing the sub crawl (put the subwoofer where you sit, play something with a lot of bass, and crawl around until you hear the best bass, and put your sub in that position) and then rerunning audyssey and see what it comes up with. I hate to tell someone to go out and spend more money if they don't need to, but if I am right about the sub, and if the sub crawl doesn't do the trick, I would look at getting a few cheap or making yourself a few home made bass absorbers as well. I don't know what your old receiver was, but you also should keep in mind that not all receivers volume controls work the same way. This would be the case especially if you changed brands. Half volume (-50) on my Pioneer was a lot quieter than half volume on my UMC-1 (40).
  9. Looks like your wife makes a pretty mean lasagna... mind sharing?
  10. Good thinking! I would love to see a special edition of them available in elephant tusk. I may just have to make my own though, does anyone know any good ivory suppliers?
  11. Your on the Facebook page! Too bad they picked that picture over your more impressive set of RF-84's =) http://www.facebook.com/KlipschSpeakers
  12. Maybe if something happens with your day job, you should go to work for a packaging company. The RT-12d you sold me was packed ridiculously well.
  13. Excalibur... After reading some of the shining reviews on Amazon, I decided to give it a shot. It was absolute garbage! The main actors are far and away over-acting their parts while the extras are very noticably just walking through the motions. It was the 2nd time in my entire life I couldn't sit through a movie. I understand it's a low budget movie and was made about 30 years ago, so I can overlook the poor SFX, but there is no excuse for the director to never say 'CUT!'.
  14. Usually about 1300$. You can find a pair of RF-7's usually between 700-1000 I think. But if you go that route, their matching center is an RC-7. Not sure how well an RC-64 would go with them, but I know the difference isn't huge.
  15. One has to wonder how closely related some of these different models are. If Denon and McIntosh, which are owned by the same company, combined into one, would they lose money because the lower end Denons could possible give the higher end McIntosh models a bad name?
  16. There are just too many brands and models of receivers out there, it's impossible to direct you to the one that would be best for you. In my eyes, receivers tend to be packed full of features I don't need, while not offering enough power to allow these speakers to come alive, so as Youthman suggested, I really think going separates is the best route. Obviously it will be different for you, but there is really only one thing that I am concerned with when it comes to buying a processor, is straight sound quality, which usually means adding as little coloration to the sound as possible when it's processed. For me, Emotiva has always sounded very neutral and stayed true to the source, so in the future, I will usually tend to take a look at their products first. I haven't heard them yet, but I believe the RF-7 II's can sound a tad harsh, so I would also look into brands that tend to have a warmer sound to help balance it out well. I believe Marantz has some pretty good offerings in that regard, and they have the Audyssey Room Correction as well. I don't think it's the newest version of it, but is still supposed to be excellent. Anthem would also be an excellent choice, but those tend to get on the pricey side.
  17. Haha agreed! If I make it to EmoFest, I might have to come up with some elaborate scheme to borrow this with no intention of giving it back and with no one knowing.
  18. They released some teaser pics for the XMC-1. What do you guys think of the "FROUT" connection. I am looking forward to hearing the reviews on this hopefully this weekend. Anyone here heading to EmoFest? I got the time off, but that's quite a drive. If anyone in the Michigan area is heading that way and has room for another, or would like to go with me, I would be willing to go. The third image is huge, might have to right click and save to get a good look.
  19. Can't wait till the XPR-1's come out, I think I am going to get 7 of them. I will finally be able to do these RF-83's some justice!
  20. Are your fronts and centers set to different crossovers? If there is a frequency chunk that is being played on your RF-63's, but the center is defeating it and sending it to your sub? I can see how 80-100hz signals would sound different on RF-63's compared to a pair of ultras. Also, the sound your ears are expecting to come from the center would be coming from further left than your left speaker. You could be confusing your ears.
  21. Hopefully! They are apparently demoing their XMC-1 preamp and XSP-1 stereo preamp at EmoFest which is next weekend. It should be interesting to see how they perform. I only hope they have some better speakers than their own to demo them on.
  22. That's a nice receiver you got! Anthem Room Correction is supposed to be fantastic and I think I would let it handle most of the settings for me, and do minor tweaks from there if there is something about the sound you don't like.
  23. THX Recommends settings crossovers to 80. Depending on your room and what your personal preference is, it could go up, probably not down. Most people set the crossover on their sub all the way up and let the receiver handle it. The only thing you don't want to do is set the crossover on your sub to lower than the cross over on your receiver, because than a chunk of frequencies will not be played. Example if you set the sub to 70 hz and the receiver to 120, the receiver will be sending everything under 120 hz to your sub, but your sub will be playing only 70hz and below so you would not be getting anything from the range of 70-120hz.. If you have trouble, your best bet is calling Klipsch and see what they recommend. Not many people have that sub.
  24. I found mention of these on AVSForum.com. Apparently they are pretty highly respectable speakers, as well as their subwoofers. Seaton Umbralla Thread There is also mention of Danley speakers. They make horn loaded speakers as well. Something about the dimension of the horns he uses that he calls Synergy Horns is supposed to make the soundfield more 3d. Seems pretty interesting.
