  1. Formica, I just ordered 2 AV-15's a few minutes ago. When they come, I'll give my thoughts on how they compare to my single Ultra and other subs I've owned. Won't really be a fair comparison due to the huge increase in cone area and cabinet volume(7ft^3 w/18hz tune). I saw your posts about the JBL amps at HTF, did you ever get yours? I really want to get some because of how cheap they are but I'm afraid of not being able to modify them for 120v. If you've done it already, how complicated was the process? I'm thinking of a MPC200(700w @ 4ohms bridged) for each sub.
  2. I've ordered twice from SVS, it had to go from Ohio to VA. 1st order...3 days 2nd order...2 days
  3. You can't go wrong with either sub. The PB1-ISD is similar in performance to a 22hz tuned 25-31Pci. here's a review comparing comparing the 25-31Pci comparing to the VTF-3. The reviewer thought the SVS bested the VTF-3. Here's just a little bit of ouput comparison from Howard Ferstler: VTF-3($764 sale price) 31hz/112...20hz/100dB SVS25-31PCi($549) 31hz/112...20hz/96(25hz tuned)) 98(22hz tuned) I'd personally save a little money and get similar performance with the SVS.
  4. I got a good idea. You already have the JL woofers and you said didn't want to build anything yourself, why not have someone else build it for you. All you need are the T/S parameters to figure out a proper box. I have them saved in WINISD if you want me to email them to you. Places like Acoustic Visions or Rutledge Audio Design build custom subs for reasonable prices. Send them an email with what you want. If you don't know much about sub building, I'm sure they could help you if you give them the T/S parameters. I'd put my money into a proper enclosure rather than replacing the woofer in a budget sub which probably also has an unpredictable eq curve built into the amp.
  5. One way to try and overcome this is to boost the sub signal at the receiver and turn it down at the sub.
  6. In case you're interested, the Sony is $130 at Sears.com because they're replacing it with a new model. If I was on a budget, it wouldn't be my choice. My choice would be the Infinity IL100s. On ebay, harmanaudio sells refurb'd units and the auctions frequently end around the $200 mark(sometimes below). I found a used one for $165 so I bought it for my fiancee. They have output similar to the KSW-12 but none of the boom, boom sound the KSW subs are known for. They even have an on board single band parametric eq built in. They look a heck of a lot better than any other sub in the price range too.
  7. Sorry, that's just the way I thought it came across. Just curious, ever done any max output testing with all those subs?
  8. Smittyman, I wouldn't spend any more money to get 7.1. You already have the internal amp for 6.1 and it's the same signal going to the 6th and 7th channel.
  9. I think the most economical upgrade path would be to keep you center and get one of the matching bookshelfs or tower speakers. I think you'll notice a significant difference if you're coming from the quintets. Matching Bookshelf - SB-2, SB-3 Matching Towers - SF-1, SF-2 Matching Surround - SS-1 I know many people get their wire by the foot at Home Depot, it's like $.30/ft for 12 gauge. It's what I use for my sub. I would have done my whole system with it if I didn't have a bunch of Monster XP lying around from when I got a discount on the stuff from working at Best Buy. Another source of cheap wire is the 12g 100' roll of Sound King from partsexpress.com for around $30. I'd save the money and put it toward better speakers. I'm a little confused about this statement: "what are the benefits to a second reciever and going to 7.1?" It sounds like you think you need another receiver to get 7.1? If so you don't. Anywho, going to 6.1 or 7.1 just adds an additional rear center(7.1 just adds two speakers but the same signal is sent to both) directly behind you. If you replace your fronts, why not put one of the quintet's back there and try it out.

I wasn't saying anything bad, maybe all the bass is getting to your head. Most on this forum don't expect the word overkill to come from you, especially when dealing with subs.
  11. I think the best deal on a sub eq is the Behringer Feedback Destroyer(BFD). Unlike the Art 351 that has fixed frequencies and non adjustable bandwidth, the BFD is fully adjustable. It's only $120 shipped here. You won't need 2 eq's, the BFD has 12 fully adjustable bands per channel, just put one sub on each channel. If you decide to buy it, here's some info for setup: http://www.snapbug.ws/bfd.htm http://www27.brinkster.com/jmag999/ http://www.pvconsultants.com/audio/eq/peq.htm
  12. My parents are pretty tolerant because the house is pretty big and the bedrooms are on opposite ends. We'll see though, maybe I should start saving for a down payment on a new place:). My brother has an AV-15 in a sealed 3 cu ft sealed enclosure for his car. I ran my Ultra and his AV-15 off my Samson amp just for fun. While playing my bro's Bass Ecstasy CD, it started rattling things in a garage on the opposite end of the house and one floor down. It was fun.
  13. I don't know what happenned to my reply. No it doesn't include the interface. I'm selling it because I want to go bass crazy. I'm doing dual 18" sonotubes 61" high with a Stryke AV-15 in each. Internal volume will be 7 cu ft and it'll be tuned to 18hz. With 540 watts to each, WINISD sims show me at 120db@18hz. This is gonna be in a 1500 cu ft room also.
  14. Added a price that includes the amplifier. See original post.

  16. $745 is the updated price. I've also decided to get sell my Samson S1000 along with it. I'm asking an even $1k for both. You can see pics of the Samson by clicking the link in my sig.
  17. I just realized that SVS lowered the price of the Ultra. When I bought it, it was $950. I have adjusted the price a little lower.

  20. Asking $745 for the subwoofer Asking $1000 for the Samson S1000 and Ultra if bought together It looks the same as the day I got it. About 1 year old which means it has the TV-12 driver. I emailed SVS and they say the remaining 2 years of the warranty will transfer. I'm in the DC area(feel free to check it out), I will give preference to a local sale but I do have the original box and packing if I have to ship. If you live kind of close, I'm willing to drive up to 2 hours to meet you somewhere. Buyer to pay shipping. Click here for pictures I've sold a few things here, I have over 170+ positive feedback on ebay. Money order, cashier's check, and paypal accepted.
