  1. http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/speakers/messages/26/264992.html wvu80 here is one article by ka7niq about the cf series
  2. wvu80, for the L pad, I purchased them off ebay for 22.95 each and the specs were 100w 8 ohm L pads and they came from springfield speaker out of missouri, and they are made in taiwan. i bought a wood box and i am going to make a L pad control unit for my main listening area, this way i not moving back and forth trying to dial in the sound. for right now i just have the wires running out the port tubes for right now. later on i'll hide the wires your judgement of the speaker is spot on, they do image really well and they can rock at high volumes, but for me it just seemed like the horn over powered the woofers, with the L pad it all evened out As for the vibration i haven't really noticed it in my speakers, moray james can talk to you more about bracing the inside of the speaker, the older forum had all the info about this speaker and TONS of knowledge about its history, i just recently got back online and see klipsch has the new forum and i don't know if they saved the older chat topics a person who went by Ka7aiq or something like that, started a forum in 2008 and it alot of good info on the cf series My advice is to at least get an amp that has alot of power, to me that is the most important thing, the speakers come alive when you give them power! on my marantz meter at 270 watts the speakers sound really good and play music with ease! try the L pad , if you don't like it you can change it back and try bi amping with maybe tube amps for the horn. if you still need a terminal post, go on ebay and the person under -gtact- has all kinds of klipsch parts. scroll his pages and he has a pair of speaker cable posts, the same type that you are looking for and if you ever need a spare woofer, the # is k-29-k not k-30-kn that is for the version 3 models...the k-29-k are hard to come by happy listening
  3. i can't comment on the K horn comparison as i have not heard a pair, But, in my experience with the CF4 ver 1(and i have tried just about everything over the 3 years that i have had them) , to maximize their full potential they need a high powered 300 or 350 watt amplifier (for mine, i have the marantz ma-9s2 mono blocks) and they have the POWER they need, after the amp, i took moray's advice and raised them up 8 inches off the ground and that helped in sound (i like to be up and move around while i listen to music so it helped for me), and lastly, (as everyone knows with these speakers, THE BRIGHTNESS of the tweeter driver) i wanted to bi amp them so much (and did) but didn't sound very good through the tweeters and another pair of the marantz mono blocks were to expensive, so what i ended up doing was hooking up a L PAD from the crossover to the tweeter horn, and it made all the difference in the world. after putting the l pad in, it made such a big difference that i'm going to do the same thing to my klf 30s but i'll hook the l pad up from amp to speaker (just on the tweeter terminal wire, not the bass) and i'll see how that sounds.. For anyone who reads this, and has a pair of cf4s or 3s hook up a L Pad from the crossover to the tweeter and then you can control the tweeter loudness on ANY type of music...I'm serious, you can keep cranking the volume and the bass and horn blend really well with a L pad and I can hear more detail in the tweeter horn after i did this $50 bucks for Lpads on ebay $20 speaker wire and some wire connectors and your $800 to $1000 dollar cf4s are now worth $2500 to $3000!
  4. For the larger cf"s 3-4 they need power to sound good, a reciever will not do, these need seperate amps to sound there best at the recommened wattage For the klf's,(20 or 30) they would be a good choice, just make sure to check the cabinets for looseness and change the highs and mids to titanium [Y] For the rfs, i have not heard this series hope this helps[]

  6. Gear101 sent me an email too, about my wtb for the cf-4 networks, he sent pictures of version 3 cf-4s the speakers them selves, saying he would ship them. i declined his offer it did look alittle fishy! steffoni bertli i think was his email name.
  7. have a dilemma, i have version 1 cf-4 no problem there, i also have another pair of cf-4 #'s(268954331) i'm thinking they are version 3's lighter woofers, 2.5 ports, the only thing is the network has the monster cable wire not the colored. i am not the original owner of these (2nd) so my ? is, is there a way to tell networks apart besides the wiring color. I'm thinking they had left over clear coated wire and used that up first before going to colored wire, but would it be possible to have version 2 networks in a version 3 cabinet with lighter coned woofers? i have heavy coned woofers to switch the lighter woofers out and longer ports to at least make version 2 speakers.
  8. I know these will be hard to come by, if anyone has any stashed away and is willing to sell at a reseasonable price. send me private message and will go from there.
  9. Epic cf series are some awesome speakers [] i think they were ahead of their time. with cd players using 32 bit and better speaker cable products and amplifiers producing cleaner power at high volumes the cf's sound amazing, i'm trying to picture myself in '94 thinking of the equipment most stores used to power the cf's i bet 80% of it doesn't come close to whats out there today or even 5 years ago, what was a cd player bit back in '94 (8 or 16)? most stores probably tried to hook-up recievers to these huge power hungry beasts(thats a mistake)even today i had a 200 watt b&k powering a cf-4 and it sounded like crap the speaker had no life, hooked up 300 watt mono blocks and wau-la totally different speaker. That aluminium diaphragm still holds up and is almost equal to the titanium's i have in my klf-30s ka7niq is right you bi-amp the cf3-4 you will have something special! []
  10. That's what i'm suggesting[], try it, and tell me what you think. another option, if your room is small, in your reciever menu cancel the center channel for surround and have the fronts do the speaking. i would use the cf-3 for fronts and the klf-20 for surround.
  11. Do you have any seperate amplifiers? if so i would suggest splitting the center channel coming out of the reciever into a two channel amp and running either pair as your center and see how that sounds. for me, i have come to realize you need a center speaker equal to that of your fronts for best results. [] For those klf_20s you need to upgrade to the titanium tweeters, you will not be disappointed only $60, well worth it!
  12. Scrappydue, i would go with onkyo processor (for cost only), i have the Denon AVP-A1 HDCI it is a beast (runs hot thou) i use four fronts and four surrounds and two centers and two subs. and still could hook up more. if you want 7ch full stereo sound (where every speaker sounds like the fronts) the AVP-A1 is it. For music or HT sound is great, you can put it in pure direct mode and it will play with four fronts (2 rca, 2 xlr). The only problems i have with it is it does run hot and some xlr connections in the back have quit working due to poor connections from the cables sagging (That could have been my error, used poor xlr cables). If you had the cash i would say go for the avp-a1, with that said Denon and Marantz are releasing new products this year and the avp-a1 is 5 years old but upgradeable avp-a1 pops up on audiogon for about 5,000 with the upgrade I know i dont have a profile of my equipment and this is my 2nd post, but i do own the avp-a1 I have heard onkyo and like there sound also Hope this helps
  13. I have two old replacement alumunium tweeter/mids for the cf-4, would there be anyway to have these replicated in titanium Anyone know of the manufacturer of the k-63-kn, maybe they still have the molding or stamping equipment (don't know how these were made) ?
  14. First post, followed this forum for about a year owned klipsch for 15 years upgraded my klf-30s with the titanium tweeter and mids recently and really liked the way these sound which has me thinking about upgrading the cf-4s (ver 1) that i have with titanium to see if it makes more of a smoother and detailed sound. I know these speakers are not loved by klipsch and will probably never have any of there parts remade. i see klipsch makes a 2" titanium compression driver (exit) the k-1133 (what does exit mean ?) and i think another one, would these work? also crites sells titanium drivers (would these work) The original was a 2" alumunium compression driver, i dont know anything of hz or khz or crossover frequencies to decide if any of these drivers would work so im looking for suggestions and ideas Moray James if you can chime in on this it would be much appreciated (ive read alot of your posts on here and ak and see you have gone to titanium in some speakers)( i think you asked this ? a few years ago) mega
