  1. this retro synthwave is contagious
  2. I wanna say this ad and speakers have been for sale for at least 3 years, I searched craigslist a couple of years ago for my cfs and this ad was up at that time, same price, city, and pictures. could be Bogus or they are sticking to their guns on price!!
  3. it could be a loose front panel, common problem in the legend series, if you take out the woofer and pull on the front panel and it moves, then it needs reglued!
  4. I do want to add, If I had purchased the Epic CF 4s back in 97 I probably would have gotten rid of them, I was just an 18 year old with a Denon 140 watt receiver who loved to crank music as loud as possible, so I would have burnt the Denon up a few times, I had already done it once with the KLF-30s, and I had no money for separate amps at the time. if I didn't find this forum I don't think I would still have the Epic speakers also, if Moray had not told me about the EV dh1506 compression driver I probably would have moved on to something else. looking back at the trials and tribulations of trying to get the cf4s to sound their best really makes me appreciate them even more, The only analogy I can think of is that of a sports car, the cf4 is a sports car with a limit computer chip in it (the original compression driver) it only tops out at 120 mph, replace that limit chip with a high performance chip (ev compression driver) and its off to the races, give it some high octane fuel (more wattage) and you have a le-mans race car ready to race for hours!
  5. it's going on 6 years having my epic cf 4 speakers, I always wanted a pair, I was set to buy a pair back in 97 as a teenager, went into the audio store and the salesman said they had been discontinued, so he ended up selling me the Klf-30s and I was happy at the time, the Legend speakers provided many years of sonic bliss and the woofers never blew and I pushed those speakers to the max, so jumping forward to 2009 I heard about craigslist and so I searched for a pair of Epic cf4 near where I live, and low and behold someone was selling a pair, I knew nothing of the different versions, bought them,(they were v3) hooked them up to a B&k amp, rocked out a little and ended up feeling underwhelmed by the sound they produced. I didn't mind them for HT use, it just happened when listening to music, so, six months go by and I learn of this forum and i read a post by ka7qau and that sent me on my cf4 journey to find the version 1s, within a year I found a pair in Chicago, bought them, I had b&k mono amps this time at 250 watts, played them and still walked away disappointed. I didn't give up, i kept telling myself, the cfs need more power, if they get more power it will make the difference!, saved up and bought the Marantz reference Ma-9s2 mono amps, and they instantly made a huge difference in overall sound, i have said it before in other forum posts, the Marantz mono amps took control of the speakers. so now its around 2013 and having listened to epic cf4s with the Marantz for a few months i realize that every time i start to push the speaker at higher volumes, the Highs seemed to start faultering, they sounded good at half volume but the louder it got the Highs just became less clear and muddy sounding. THIS is where Moray James stepped in, he e-mailed me a few years back, i took his advice for the modifications and it took the speakers to that level of sonic satisfaction that i was always searching for out of these speakers. i have been listening to the current modified cfs for about 2 years now and have no desire to upgrade. just a little story of my Epic Journey!
  6. No helicopter pad....Deal Breaker!

    Are we alone?

pyramids, megaliths, Giants, elongated skulls ....Oh-My
  8. This has been in the back of my mind for awhile, what tube amplifiers and tubes would be great for the epic cf 3/4 series? i'm just curious on how the highs would sound, i have the lows covered with my Marantz mono amps, and have modified the compression driver with the ev-dh 1506 i am very HAPPY with the sound i have now and can live without the change, just wondering if better highs are to be gained with going with tube amps for the highs?
  9. kapsnb01, what did you think of the difference between the stock compression driver and the EV dh-1506?
  10. Bump...its been a year and a half since posting on this thread, still have my modded CF-4s, still have no desire to change my set-up! would like to hear if people still have the epic cfs or have moved on to something else and if they miss the epics?
  11. i finally wrapped my Cf-4 horns with Dynamat and it definitely made a difference, cleans up the highs a bit and gives some crispness to the bass! well worth the 60 dollar upgrade!
  12. War of the Worlds, when the ship comes out of the ground, i always test for when people come over....very well done scene!
  13. I just watched Transporter 2 the other day, and when they fire the guns in all the scenes they are really bass powerful ...good rapid bass punch!!
  14. Junk would not want them, if there so delicate you have to suspend the wires off the floor with "special" risers and build them there own addition, no way. lol!...look up evolution acoustics mm3 or mm7 on youtube, and his system is on there...he does have a nice room, i think his back wall are all records ...yeah i'll still stick with klipsch for sure! i bet they sound like crap for home theater!

  16. i will say this (more power and the tweeter horn fix) are the 2 major points to get the Cf's sounding as they should...everything else, foam pads, raising them, bi amp, wrapping the horn, room placement is all personal preference... imo excellent job on refinishing them they look awesome!
  17. wvu80, it took me a few years to realize this, because i always believed klipsch knows what they are building, but after taking moray's suggestion on the tweeter horn (ev dh1506) and listening to it for a few days, my conclusion is the original k-63 tweeter driver is flawed or inadequate for the cf3 and 4...the k-63 sounds good for HT and easy listening but falls short at high volumes...the EV dh1506 is more open sounding and really blends well with the woofers (i still use the L-pad , have it set at the 2am mark most of the time) and the harshness is gone My jaw dropped to the floor from what i was hearing..it sounds that good i used to run B&K mono blocks for mine (250w) and thought they sounded good, but when i upgraded to the marantz (to me) that is the first time i truly heard the speaker. Bass, sound, everthing, sound was fuller, richer, clearer. I know you want to have good sound for cheap (who doesn't) but find a way to give 300 watts of clean power and you will be impressed more power, more power, more power , keep that in the back of your mind when you listen to them..i can't stress it enough Hope this helps!
  18. I would like to hear a pair of these, thou!
  19. I have run EV DH1506 driver on my CF3 horns, thought it was a massive improvement. I did not spend any time playing with the combination as I then began to play with Karlson K-Tubes on both the DH1506 and the DH1A and prefer them by a wide margin over the horns. Best regards Moray James. I have run EV DH1506 driver on my CF3 horns, thought it was a massive improvement. Best regards Moray James. Bought a pair of ev dh 1506 off Ebay...excellent recommendation Moray, big improvement in sound quality, just one ? thou, did you use the same plastic horn, the EV's are very heavy feels like it could just snap my horn in half..... I have to say moray james, these new EV compression drivers sound really good, i'm playin cd after cd after cd, makes me wanna say the K-63 is not that great for the cf series (at least not at high volumes, for music anyway, since the EV drivers are heavy this make me think that maybe the cf3,4 should of been around 150 to 160 lbs when they built them, I know going up that much in weight, you are gonna lose some consumers because of size and mobility, but with what i'm hearing out of these cf-4s now, it smokes my klf-30s with the titaniums by a mile....
