  1. Well my wife, and I took a couple of days on a short trip, and Fedex attempted to deliver while I was gone... They called me due to a signature being required, and I told them to keep them at Fedex, and I would come pick them up on Monday. They said no problem but that they would be closed on Monday, and I could get them on Tuesday... Imagine my surprise when I receive a text today about one hour before we got home saying they were delivered! I figured a neighbor must have been home, and signed for them. When I got home I saw the attempted delivery tags but no parts. I asked my neighbors, and no one said they signed for them. I called FedEx, and they said I had signed for them! I told them that that was not possible as I had just got home from a short vacation, and they were claiming I signed for them 1 hour earlier when I was on the freeway heading home. They said they would enter a claim and I would be contacted so I contacted Bob, and he sent me the "Proof of signature"... I looked at it and whoever signed for it did not sign the way I did, and they even got the wrong spelling for the last name. It was interesting that they signed my first name in cursive, and then printed my last name, and still messed it up.

I hope that this gets straightened out soon as I really wanted to get the conversion done. At this point I am def not a happy camper!

  2. Road trip, LOL ! I have them on C.L. and always getting offers to trade. I have been offered guns, pool tables, car parts, vintage amps and gear... I thought I had them sold, then the guy asked to hear the LaScala's. Oops... My bad. Won't do that again.

When I sell audio equipment I make sure the replacements are not in the room when they come to demo. :)

  3. I heard my first pair of Klipsch Khorns at a High end Audio Store in Colorado Springs in 1977... They had the Infiniti Reference Speakers and Cerwin Vega S2 speakers (all of which I demoed). When I was at RAF Lakenheath a couple of years later I demoed a pair of LaScalas and bought the floor models on the spot (they had just gotten a bunch of LaScalas in a couple of days earlier and had sold them all... I convinced the salesman to sell me the floor models... I paid under $1000 for the pair at the time). eventually sold them in the early 1980s (due to space limitations and cash). I just purchased 3 LaScalas a month or so ago and have been building up a full Klipsch 11.0 setup (9.0) so far). My .1 is PSA Triax sub... Other than that all Klipsch Heritage, Pro, and Industrials.

  4. So how would these compare sonically to my Denon 4520 avr driving LaScalas? Would this be an upgrade in sound or just in efficiency?

Very good question. I have no reference for how the Denon 4520 performs, but being a Denon product I am sure it sounds good. Right now, the only commercially available amplifier using the Texas Instruments TPA31xx series Class D amplifiers is the TBI Millenia:

You can read the reviews linked to their Web site. These amps all have the similar Texas Instruments house sound, which based on my experience thus far, is very impressive.

Here are a couple links to the diyAudio.com forum threads discussing these amps:

    http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/237086-tpa3116d2-amp.html

These amps are reasonably priced, so conducting your own experiment is pretty easy as long as you know how to stick wires into screw-down terminal blocks. As I mentioned earlier, the Yuan Jing amps available on eBay are probably the best choice for most. It offers higher power and it can be used with longer speaker cable lengths than the Sure Electronics TPA3110D2 amp.

I've been listening to some really well recorded RCA Living Stereo SACDs of orchestral music, and it really is impressive how this little amp seems to have incredible drive and headroom for reproducing complex passages. To my ears, I feel like I have a KT88 push-pull tube amp connected to my Audio Research LS7 Tube line stage preamp. With the higher efficiency of the La Scalas, an amp like this would play louder.

Thanks for the info... Where abouts are you in the Bay Area (let me know via PM if you don't want to post it)? I am in Concord.

  5. My neighbors house caught fire earlier this year from a nicad battery charger that was charging a tool battery. They have been without a home now for 6 months while the house is being rebuilt (insurance has them in an apartment). Since this happened I unplug all battery chargers.

  6. 2 other people already posted about those & one person even posted about buying them; but, I like your attitude! They were a good buy.

Sorry, I didn't look at all his pics or I would have noticed that they were the same ones listed already.

  7. At least with a CL thread you know that they might be gone already instead of looking through numerous threads to find deals. Hopefully this will help people find stuff easier. I use Searchtempest for searching and it does pretty good for searching all over at once.

  8. I sold a 200 disc cd changer on eBay last year and I had it packed by the UPS store... It looked similar to your amp when they got it. I had to file a claim and I gave the buyer a refund. Luckily I had the UPS Store ship it and insure it! They gave me a 100% refund including packing, shipping, and insurance.

  9. I have 3 late 1970s vintage La Scalas that I am going to do some mods on.

I just ordered all the parts to complete the mods and this is what I am planning to do.

1: Cut the top box off of the La Scalas

2: Reskin the speaker bass bins with an additional layer of 1/2" Birch Plywood

3: Make a new motor board for my new horns

4: Cut out a hole for my Faital LTH142 horns

5: Install my new Faital HF140 drivers

6: Install my new Bob Crites type A crossovers

Something like this for the upper box...

What do you think? I would have loved to go with the Jubes but this is a budget upgrade.

  10. I have had shipments arrive early with UPS, and I have had shipments stay in a UPS Facility for days before they deliver it to me (sometimes it is like they don't want to deliver early only on time).

  11. Would these be a big improvement over the stock tweets in a La Scala? I am thinking of replacing the tweets first, then maybe go to a Fastrac horn, and then crossovers. These are used 90% for movies but I think I would like to start listening to 2 channel music again too.
